"They got caught spying on my campaign and then called it an investigation" is a great line.

That is a great line. Mostly, because it is true.

On March 4, 2017, President Trump tweeted that his campaign staff had been wiretapped by President Obama. Trump's revelation caused a panic within the Intelligence Community through the rest of March.

On May 9, Trump fired "Crazy Comey the Leaker". In the following days, the Resistance that remained within the FBI initiated a counter-intelligence investigation of President Trump, who allegedly was being controlled by Russian Intelligence.

I think the Trump's revelation that his campaign staff was being wiretapped was part of the accusation that he was being controlled by Russian Intelligence. After all, Trump's revelation spoiled the FBI's counter-intelligence investigation -- code name: Crossfire Hurricane -- of how Russian Intelligence had meddled in and stolen our 2016 Presidential election.

The FBI had established the Crossfire Hurricane investigation at the end of July 2016 as a so-called Enterprise Counter-Intelligence Investigation. The investigation's idea was that four member of Trump's campaign staff -- Michael Flynn, Paul Manafort, Carter Page, and George Papadopoulos -- were secret agents of Russian Intelligence who comprised an "enterprise" to steal the election.

The FBI did not include Trump himself into this "enterprise". However, after Trump fired Comey on May 9, 2017, the FBI did formally include Trump. Of course, the FBI always had considered Trump to be the leader of the "enterprise" even though he was not included formally until May 2017.

While the reframing is brilliant from a Scott Adams point of view, it's a distinction without a difference. They have no more authority to launch a secret investigation of the president than they do to spy on him. Heads must roll--firings and jailings and a lot of them.

Color me dumb, but I am still trying to figure out how a couple of hundred thousand dollars worth of dubious ads or posts by the Russkis (assuming that such even occurred) tipped the scales in the hurricane of expenditures by both sides in the 2016 election.

There's a Texas expression for that---It didn't matter any more than a popcorn poot in a tornado.

The larger scandal here is the Obama administration weaponizing federal agencies against Trump; and the Clinton campaign paying for the creation and dispersion of the Steele dossier. That makes Papa Joe Kennedy's efforts in the 1960 campaign look like child's play.

Following up my comment at 7:59 AM

-----

By including President Trump into the Crossfire Hurricane enterprise counter-intelligence investigation in May 2017, the FBI authorized itself to bug the White House itself.

President Obama, at the end of his own administration, had modified Executive Order 12333, thus enabling the FBI to wiretap any US person if the FBI found that person was an agent of a foreign power. The FBI found that President Trump was such a person, and so the FBI wiretapped the White House.

In regard to the FBI's wiretapping of the White House, see also this update.

"They got caught spying on my campaign and then called it an investigation"

The CIA ran an entrapment scheme against Trump associates.

The FBI lied about the Steele dossier to abuse FISA authority for further spying on Trump.

The O admin abused unmasking authority to expand surveillance of Americans.

The FBI escalated its anti-Trump campaign after the Comey firing.

Mueller and his Dem team keep up the pressure on Trump associates while shielding deep-state machinations.

Meanwhile, DoD and State resist Trump decisions on Iran and Syria.

Fortunately, someone is leaking transcripts of secret hearings to Jeff Carlson, who writes the The Markets Work blog.

Recently Carlson published a thorough analysis of the leaked transcript of the hearings of Lisa Page.

Today Carlson published a thorough analysis of the leaked transcript of the hearings of Bruce Ohr.

Carlson's analysis today begins:

In the days following the firing of FBI Director James Comey by President Donald Trump, the FBI, under Acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe, sought to re-engage with former MI6 spy and author of the Steele dossier, Christopher Steele.

The FBI’s attempts to re-engage Steele, who had been fired by the FBI six months earlier for breaking protocol by talking to reporters, were soon thwarted by the appointment of special counsel Robert Mueller.

McCabe appears to have been blindsided by the appointment of Mueller, who was appointed as special counsel on May 17, 2017, the day after a meeting with Trump and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein in the oval office.

The appointment of Mueller shifted control of the Russia investigation from the FBI and McCabe to Mueller. Rosenstein would retain ultimate authority over the probe, and any expansion of Mueller’s investigation required authorization from Rosenstein.

McCabe had been a key player in the FBI’s counterintelligence investigation of the Trump presidential campaign, which relied heavily on information provided by Steele. The FBI also obtained a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) spy warrant on Trump campaign adviser Carter Page using the information.

Former Associate Deputy Attorney General Bruce Ohr served as a key conduit in transferring information from Steele, both before and after the FBI terminated Steele, along with information from Fusion GPS co-founder Glenn Simpson.

An Aug. 28, 2018, testimony before Congress by Ohr, which was reviewed for this article, sheds new light on McCabe’s involvement in the investigation. His testimony also illustrates how Steele and Simpson passed their information targeting Trump to the FBI, using Ohr as an unofficial back-channel. ...

Now they're trying to claim they actually thought Trump was a Russian agent. Max Boot made a long list of reasons why they might think so--most of which occurred after they started snooping.

I know some people will think I'm nuts, but I still hold out the hope that Mueller is doing an actual legitimate investigation, one that will vindicate Trump and expose the entire Democrat conspiracy.

Barring that, I'd like to see Trump perform a gotterdammerung and just declassify every single government document related to the case.

Anyone see any parallels with the FBI investigation of Martin Luther King?........I know that during J. Edgar's years the FBI used to do black bags jobs--i.e. beaking and entering--on the America First and German-American Bund organizations. These were done at the specific behest of FDR.

Trump seems to be gaining confidence lately that the truth will come out. The cover up may be beginning to crack. At least I hope so.

I dispute the rank and file FBI are great people . I think the organization is top to bottom , root and branch, cut from the same cloth as those that got caught here . Remember it is now accepted fact that the entire Boston FBI office knew, the entire office , that theFBI and DOJ ( Here's looking at you Mueller) were in bed with the psychotic killer Whitey Bulger The entire office knew and said nothing

Unknown is right. The only untruth in Trumps statement is his confidence in the FBI rank and file. This is obviously wrong.

I hope Trump understands the depth of the enmity of these institutions, and that that part of his statement is an actual lie, a "nice doggy" line.

Will CNN be able to admit it got used by the left side of the security apparatus in this country? Or is it dug in too deep? I've no doubt Jim Scuitto and Manu Raju both knew going in that their friends were in on this. But what about Tapper when he first reported on the "breaking news" of the dossier being read to Trump by Comey? And now all the rest of them?

I actually feel sorry for Tapper, because I'm certain he intended to be a good reporter on this.

I watched that recent PBS documentary about the Vietnam war, which was mostly boomer nostalgia about how cool it was to be a hippie, and they played LBJ's secretly recorded phone call with Nixon about Nixon's transgressions, completely glossing over LBJ using the FBI to illegally spy on him to find them out, and the ethics of the secret recording itself.

So there have now been two investigations of Trump re collusion if I count the Mueller special counsel 2 year investigation and this one, by the FBI, which has just now been revealed. Yet, neither seems to have found any collusion right? Meaning Trump is squeaky clean or a brilliant criminal.

Now, I'd like them to do the same to Hillary Clinton.

What a contrast to yesterday's post about Trump's supposed inability to spell and write a sentence. How succinctly one short sentence sums up the whole big mess. You have to be smart to do that.

No, because reasons.

Yancey Ward said...

I have noticed in just the last week that a new narrative is being rolled out by the media- it is this; "Obstruction is the Proof of Collusion with Russia".

The stories all have the same basic form- "Trump wasn't being investigated at all until he fired James Comey. But when he did fire Comey, it suddenly became clear that Trump was a Putin tool all along, and had to be investigated by the FBI."

Andrew McCarthy penned an essay a few days ago pointing out the obvious- Trump was under investigation long before Comey was fired. Indeed, it is becoming obvious that the investigation of Trump was started even before the first primary was held in 2016 (and probably the other leading Republican candidates, too), and only kicked into high gear once it became clear Trump was likely to win the nomination (this would be around the time George Papadopoulos was being set up Mifsud).

My interpretation of the new narrative is that word has quietly gone out that Mueller has come up with zilch in regards to collusion and is focusing on obstruction due to the firing of Comey. So that now becomes the media's evidence for collusion. Otherwise, you got no underlying crime.

I don't think you meant to, but this paints Tosca in a good light. The truth was that someone in the NY office was calling the DoJ to ask what to do with the laptop which the NY office had informed McCabe of a month earlier in September, including a description of the volume and basic nature of the contents. Tosca was worried the NY office was going to leak the existence of this evidence prior to the election (this was around October 20th 2016). This is what forced Comey into action- that fear of a leak from the NY office.

According to Jeff Carlson's article today about the secret testimony of Bruce Ohr, Andrew McCabe led the Crossfire Hurricane investigation at FBI, and McCabe's counter-parts at the Justice Department were John Carlin and George Toscas.

Majority of Americans have no knowledge of the govt. corruption involved.

Would be nice if the higher up bad players were actually indicted and made newsworthy night after night after night.

Ask anybody who gets news from paper, tv, or radio who McCabe,Ohr are and they will have no clue.

Far as Mueller coming up empty, I hope so but am prepared to be disappointed , again.

Hard to imagine they cannot pin some sort of BS crime on Trump, who has been involved in world wide, multi million dollar deals for decades.

Last week, media was all over Trump because illegals, with forged documentation, are working at Mar a Lago. As if Trump personally hired them.
