"Letitia James, a Democrat, has made no secret that she intends to use her powers as New York’s attorney general to pursue possible legal action against President Trump."

"She calls him an 'illegitimate president.' She says her decision to run for attorney general was largely 'about that man in the White House who can’t go a day without threatening our fundamental rights.'... Her strident attacks on the president could potentially threaten the legal standing of cases that her office brings against Mr. Trump, his family members or their business interests, legal experts said.... In an interview, Ms. James defended her remarks about the president, adding that she believed that her race and gender were shaping what she characterized as assumptions and misconceptions about how she would perform as attorney general. Ms. James is the first woman in New York to be elected as attorney general, the first African-American woman to be elected to statewide office, and the first African-American to serve as attorney general. Before winning election, she was the New York City public advocate. 'This is similar to when I was about to take office as public advocate, and individuals expressed concerns,' Ms. James said. 'What I have done repeatedly throughout my life is I have been underestimated and have continued to perform.'"

Attorney Generals are typically chosen for their weak minds and big political ambitions. In NY the butt sex with hookers usually brings them down.

Serious question. How does Trump threaten fundamental rights? We hear that all the time from the Left.

It's the Eric Holder et seq effect. Lesson: don't elect blacks. They're nuts.

Gee. That should be illegal. Wait. It is.

Her being a woman perhaps makes it worse. Women can't think structurally. Everything is in the moment.

She's used the word "persecution." And named children, friends, relatives, employees, vendors, everyone that Trump ever met. She is a looney bird and an embarrassment to NY. She also stated thay she will do whatever is necessary to put all those people in jail. Their guilt is assumed a priori.

rhhardin said...

Mueller is more laid-back. No need to disclose motives. Use procedure for everything.

Maybe she can propose seizure of white-owned properties in New York for reasons of social justice. If she starts with Trump Tower, half the fucking morons in this country will be right there with her.

Most Republicans’ greatest asset is their critics. Which makes it that much more frustrating that so many are cowed by their critics.

Democrats feel the same way about their leaders—they lack fight and are too nice—but I’m pretty sure the Republicans are right.

FACTS!
the OVERWHELMING Majority of farms in this country are owned by Whites, and White Owned Corporations
There are LOTS of poor Colored People here!
South Africa has shown: if you take the farms from the Whites, and give them to the Colored People;
not only is it Fun! but it Really cuts down on obesity

In the end there are no "firsts" with this person. NY has simply, once again, elected a liberal Democrat.

What a tedious statement of everyone's life history.

Hint to the AG: You are not special.

I think she's a walking argument for a claim of selective prosecution, change of venue, and about 50 other defense motions.

When the prosecutor says, "Hey, my thing is to get this one particular guy and by the way all his family and friends," a good defense lawyer will dive in, come up having shown that not just Letitia but the whole damned AG's office is wallowing in corruption.

I have had tangles with NY AGs in the past and, while they were always stupid and sloppy, more or less, they were never certifiable, till now.

If you want to be Captain Ahab, don't be surprised if you run up against something big and bad.

This is scary. Anyone can probably be found to have violated some law or another - Glenn Reynold's ham sandwich nation. We are seeing prosecution of people working with Trump at some point by the Deep State, in FISAgate and Mueller's investigation. And, indeed, it appears that Mueller is currently running out the clock with Congressional subpoenas to the DoJ and FBI until they can be dropped by the incoming Dem majority, by claiming that they are essential to his witch hunt investigation. Most of a dozen at the top of the FBI, a half dozen at the top of the DoJ, both Clinton's, and a number of their hangerons should be in prison right now. Oh, I forgot Brennan, probably Clapper, and several in the Obama White House. Crickets. Imagine what could be done if the DoJ, FBI, IRS, etc were tasked (and that task carried out, and not suborned by the Deep State) to go after Dem politicians. This new NY AG would likely go down hard herself. Probably the present Congressional Black Caucus.

There is a very obvious double standard going on, where Democrats are not held to nearly the same criminal standard as Republicans. That is what this woman is proposing to do - engage in grossly politicized Justice. But Justice is only respected if it is seen as being impartially applied. And that faith is being rapidly eroded around the country. This is one of the big reasons that Red America continues to arm itself, even after Trump's election, since this sort of politicized Justice is backed by government owned guns. And why Dems are so desperate to reverse that trend, with gun control and gun grabbing at the top of their priority lists around the country and in their incoming House majority.

Bruce, I watched the movie "Doctor Zhivago" a few days ago. I was struck by the parallels between the Russian Revolution and the stated goals of progressives like Latitia James.

They estimate 23 millions citizens were killed by Russian socialism.

I didn't read the article. Did they mention the previous AG, Schneiderman? As I recall, he had to resign because of some past incidents of domestic abuse. There was quite a wave about him for a while. He was very aggressive in finding things to investigate in Trump's business dealings. Samantha Bee compared him to Superman. Then there were those unfortunate revelations. I think Samantha Bee did a few jokes about him, but he's since been allowed to disappear down the memory hole...... I certainly hope that there are no untoward things in Ms. James' past. After the sad history of Spitzer and Schneiderman, we in NY need an upright AG who will ruin and destroy Republicans, their family, and their friends in an honorable, bipartisan way,

By denying Democrats unlimited power to dictate everything to everyone. My use of the word dictate is deliberate.

It’s easy to understand Democrats if you view them as a large organized crime ring that uses politics as a means to their ends.

Ms. James' stated fascist intentions really worry me; honestly, as in I have to deliberately turn off thinking about this. Which I will right after this post I guess. Law enforcement is becoming more aggressively "progressive" and that's a very very bad thing. Krasner, the new DA in Philadelphia, has made similar promises to use his office to investigate and bring charges against corporate fat cats. And possibly arrest former ADAs for what I expect would be baseless political "crimes."

RigelDog said...

I get your point, but the Philadelphia DA had nothing to do with Cosby--that prosecution was based in neighboring Montgomery County.

Perhaps she only lied to win the election. Mr. Trump and Rudy say such lying is not criminal, so all's fair when votes are counted or not counted but lying is a permissible campaign strategy. How else would Trump have won? He just kept on repeating his campaign promises until they became believable to Trumpists.

Remember, Donald Trump says tariffs will make America rich again! Ask our farmers and loyal GM union autoworkers and look for the union label which says we can't make it in the USA anymore.

I give the Times credit for identifying the latest miscreant to become NY Attorney General as a Democrat (Eliot "Black Socks" Spitzer and Eric "You are my brown slave" Schneiderman are going to be tough acts to follow). It never ceases to amaze this lifelong New Yorker how the absolute worst "elites" have for decades dominated the political positions of power in Albany.
