"garbage food served by a garbage president. this is not funny, its just pathetic"/"A junk food feast from a junk president. How fitting is that? Talk about a nothing burger."

Highly rated comments on the WaPo article "President Trump’s extravagant, $3,000, 300-sandwich celebration of Clemson University" (by Philip Bump).

Here's Trump talking about the food — which he paid for himself because of the shutdown — just before the champion football team comes in.

ADDED: The Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence declares, "It was awesome... We had McDonalds and everything. It was good!"
Another fan asked Lawrence how many times he plans on returning to the White House -- to which he replied, "Hopefully, a few more!"

"garbage food served by a garbage president."

Everyone who occasionally indulges in fast food will understand the typical left wing commenter thinks of them as garbage people also. Then they'll laugh about those same people preaching to them about tolerance and inclusivity.

I get that this is unfair to left wingers though. It's so hard to hide your contempt when it's bursting at the seams.

The article is rather humorous with all of the statistics and visual aids. I'd assume an element of tongue in cheek if it were not in WaPo. (WaPo sounds like Whopper®, hehe)

I think they used the A/V guy what drew up that FBI leaker to reporter map.

The trouble with hot soyburgers is that they lack the texture you'd want and don't taste like anything. After cooling they firm up a little and the carefully prepared taste comes out.

I don't believe in slave labor. So, when Schlump is finally given a life sentence for treason, he should be put to work, and given a modest salary. Doing what? He's not qualified for any normal job. I do NOT want the president defiled in prison.

So, I ask in all earnestness, what job is he suited for? Lying, stealing, and cheating are not valid options. Neither are insulting and humiliating. Maybe he should be put through an anger management course in prison. And then a class in civility. That's it, he can teach Civility Bullshit 101. He's certainly the master of bullshit.

I think Trump knows more about what these guys want to eat than all the busybody progressives who are trying to control everyone's lives. Even in the off season these guys consume a lot of calories every day working out and staying in shape. If they think this meal was bad I hope they don't go visit them in the athlete's dining room back at Clemson. They would probably be appalled at how much these guys eat.

I also noted in some of the pics there were salads available. I'll make a bet there plenty of them left.

From the live video I saw on Facebook it looked like everyone had a lot of fun. Lawrence says he plans to go back a couple of more times. Given what we saw in their game against Alabama I wouldn't bet against him.

(2) You graduated from Michigan, and a football player pinchd your bottom in a campus bar. Then as now Michigan was a football factory, so when you complained you were told that you should feel honored to be pinched on the butt by a football player and next time just turn the other cheek. Ever since then you have hated college football players. I rate this as a likely possibility.p

No, they also create systems. The US corporatist complex is their great achievement.

The closely interrelated system of educational, bureaucratic, political, F1000-management, high finance, consultancies, NGO's, Qangos, and legal infrastructure gives them control. Its not really "leftist" in some Marxian-Leninist sense, as so much of it is simply about making and keeping vast amounts of money. It is a ruling caste system, with its own peculiar ideology as a religion-substitute.

Does anyone go to the White House for the Food?

Trump's love of Fast food is a brilliant PR move.

Its astounding that the son of a millionaire, who went to an elite school, who's lived his entire life in NYC, and is now a Billionaire, comes off as an "Average Joe".

For a contrast see John Kerry. Trump is much more elite than "Jenghis Kahn Kerry" but most American see Kerry as an elitist douchbag.

Personally, I've always hated McDonald's (except for the french fries).

It’s just possible that Trump has “the common touch” and it isn’t about laying traps or outsmarting the enemy.

The ridiculous shit coming out of the WaPo, how are we supposed to know what is and isn’t a joke? It all looks like a joke to me.

tim in vermont said...

How is the “mile high” joke any different than “Russia, if your listening”? They were both obvious jokes.

The New Yorker also has an article of their own which you can read from their Facebook page, "The Pure American Banality of Donald Trump’s White House Fast-Food Banquet". The article is not too bad - in fact, it is pretty bland - but then there are the comments, mostly from people that just haven't got a clue.

This is the problem of course in the 80s, Jonathan schell occasioned surrender in the cold war in the 90s they clobbered over Clinton and in 00s Jane Mayer and George packer painted chiaroscuro nightmares about the war on terror, so much so a third rate mystery novelist named Joe ide is still obsessed over Abu ghraib

They can keep this shit up 2 more years easily. Even 6 more years will not be difficult.

while millions of children starve worldwide.

Worldwide, poverty and hunger are at all time lows. There aren't millions of children starving anymore, and food scarcity is now due to politics and corruption.

Food scarcity since I've been born has been due to politics and corruption. I'm now 63. Didn't know that when I was young; it wasn't- and isn't- what's taught in schools. Rhodesia was once the breadbasket of Africa and net exporter of food. Zimbabwe now imports food and a large percentage of it's people starve. But hey- at least they can be proud of not being named after Cecil Rhodes anymore! That'll teach those evil white people a lesson! And Venezuela- used to be, if not rich, a well to do country. Now the people kill zoo animals for meat and flee to other nations for jobs. Or in the case of many of their women, to sell or rent their bodies. But healthcare in Venezuela is FREE! Proof that socialism works!

Yes, written to recall “The banality of evil”

Anne posted this because, as so often, this attack on Trump is really an attack on Trump voters, and lower class Americans generally. The WaPo people cannot hide their disdain. That interests Althouse.

tim in vermont said...

That interests Althouse.

It doesn’t interest you that the political party that for generations, since FDR at least, styled itself the party of the working man has become the party of the hyper wealthy and the party of affluent America? It seems like a pretty interesting story to me.

tim in vermont said...

FDR, after all, famously offered an English king a hot dog.

Of course the pre Bezos post clobbered all over Obama on burgers in 2010, on Michelle waxing on fries in 2014.

So you're saying that the Post was engaging in some good-natured teasing? Maybe so the with fact check but the whole point of the story was to mock the affair. How dare they have a good time in the White House eating fast food.

Aww, how cute. Low-quality food for low-information voters. Darling.

Everyone's got their favorite fast-food joint to check out from time to time. But Puppet Trump's display is nauseating due to the self-inflicted nature of his crisis. Perhaps he can run air traffic control and TSA scanners on burger grease. This is just simplistic ineptitude of the highest order.

Besides, these displays of the "common touch" get repulsively deceptive and old. If he were such a salt of the earth he'd be cutting costs by living in a trailer, or log cabin. (One of our presidents did that). Not showing off all the crap he can foot the bill for in a state house that's still being staffed by umpteen butlers and whatnot.

The idiocy of the entire thing.

OK. Ran across a joke on this that was actually funny. (and you can just imagine Johnny Carson doing it in his monolog)

"He served McDonalds, Burger King and Wendy's, and got Taco Bell to pay for it."
