Can we all just get along?
Dogs and cats together: The dog pets the cat and, in response, the cat stands up and hugs the dog:

I call it the Paradox of Cats and Dogs: they hate to love each other but don't.
Fake News!
Did the dog vote for Trump? Did the cat?
The dog just wanted kitty to lick his face clean and give him some ASMR relaxation. My parents dogs do this to one another. I've also seen dogs totally momma cats before.
Is that a love bite on your neck?
That is one YUGE cat.
Many people are constantly surprised by friendships between animals of different species. That a dog and cat that have lived together for years have bonded is not surprising.
But here are some friendships between animals of different species that really are surprising:

Cat and mouse?
Cat and bird?
Dog and lizard?
Orangutan and...
My cat is friends with a bunny rabbit.
It happens.
That cat looks just like our Maine Coon cat, who is an attention whore.
And then there's this:
The bond between a mammalian mother and child is caused by secretion of the hormone oxytocin when the mother gives birth. (That's true for us humans too.) At that moment, the maternal instinct is so strong that the mother animal may be willing to adopt and nurse a baby animal of a different species.
When this baby squirrel was adopted by a mother cat, the squirrel learned to purr like her mom and siblings:

LOL.
I just saw a fake Drudge headline about "Mysterious space sounds" which are neither sounds nor mysterious. Maybe the radio waves were hugging each other.
A friend had a dog who was a pal to all the animals on the farm. Showing up in the field, cows would wander over to muzzle the hound. The duck frequently spent the night cuddled up with the pooch in the dog house. He'd also step back from his dish to let the cat have a taste of his food.
Pointy-eared cat is not intimidated by flop-eared dog.
Dogs can't hug. The shoulder joint is wrong.
Cats and dogs love each other when they share the same household.
Cats love dogs because they have warm bodies for sleeping next to. Dogs love cats because they excrete tasty snacks.
That's just sweet! :-)
If only the cat knew the dog was a Trump supporter!

Not always. At one time we had two female dogs, one large, one small, and a female cat. Both dogs were terrified of the cat, who not only had seniority but was the superior strategist.
Our dogs have always gotten along with the cats - as long as they knew their place in the pack hierarchy.
no rats hugged. Too noble??
How did you resist "Can we all just get along, little doggie'?
Nevermind, I see how.
Both dogs were terrified of the cat,
Our cat and dog wrestle all the time. Sometimes the cat starts it, sometimes the dog grabs a big mouth full of neck hair and drags him out of his hidy hole. The Cat is 18, and in charge, the dog 8. I got video. But after showing it to a couple of friends, I now know that, NOBODY CARES.
Iowan2: Even animals get bored and need a little action.
Some animals simply get it.
My cat, Parking Lot Pete, he sits on my lap and places his head under my chin. He looks at me with love. It's weird.
It's as if he is really grateful that he was plucked off the cold cruel streets.

Send it to the Pet Collective so it can be seen on the Cat Channel on PlutoTV. Almost as much fun as FailArmy.
Nah...the dog wants the cat's spot on the sofa and taps the cat to move. Cat grabs dog and whispers in his ear "Nice nose you got there, wouldn't want anything to happen to it".
We had a twenty pound Maine Coon and she ruled our two 70 lb dogs...the three snuggled, ran and wrestled in play but the dogs never challenged her command of sofa territory.

Maine Coons are the badasses of the cat world and the most doglike of all the cat breeds. I adopted one out to some people who had three pugs and King quickly became leader of the pack.
