The Gods Of The Copybook Headings As I pass through my incarnations in every age and race, I make my proper prostrations to the Gods of the Market-Place. Peering through reverent fingers I watch them flourish and fall, And the Gods of the Copybook Headings, I notice, outlast them all.
We were living in trees when they met us. They showed us each in turn. That Water would certainly wet us, as Fire would certainly burn: But we found them lacking in Uplift, Vision and Breath of Mind, So we left them to teach the Gorillas while we followed the March of Mankind.
We moved as the Spirit listed. They never altered their pace, Being neither cloud nor wind-borne like the Gods of the Market-Place; But they always caught up with our progress, and presently word would come That a tribe had been wiped off its icefield, or the lights had gone out in Rome.
With the Hopes that our World is built on they were utterly out of touch. They denied that the Moon was Stilton; they denied she was even Dutch. They denied that Wishes were Horses; they denied that a Pig had Wings. So we worshipped the Gods of the Market Who promised these beautiful things.
When the Cambrian measures were forming, They promised perpetual peace. They swore, if we gave them our weapons, that the wars of the tribes would cease. But when we disarmed They sold us and delivered us bound to our foe, And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said: "Stick to the Devil you know."
On the first Feminian Sandstones we were promised the Fuller Life (Which started by loving our neighbour and ended by loving his wife) Till our women had no more children and the men lost reason and faith, And the Gods of the Copybook Heading said: "The Wages of Sin is Death."
In the Carboniferous Epoch we were promised abundance for all, By robbing selected Peter to pay for collective Paul; But, though we had plenty of money, there was nothing our money could buy, And the Gods of the Copybook Heading said: "If you don't work you die."
Then the Gods of the Market tumbled, and their smooth-tongued wizards withdrew, And the hearts of the meanest were humbled and began to believe it was true That All is not God that Glitters, and Two and Two make Four- And the Gods of the Copybook Headings limped up to explain it once more.
As it will be in the future, it was at the birth of Man- There are only four things certain since Social Progress began:- That the Dog returns to his Vomit and the Sow returns to her Mire,
And the burnt Fool's bandaged finger goes wobbling back to the Fire; And that after this is accomplished, and the brave new world begins
When all men are paid for existing and no man must pay for his sins, As surely as Water will wet us, as surely as Fire will burn, The Gods of the Copybook Headings with terror and slaughter return!
On that subject, has there been a more perfect story than the reporter for Der Spiegel who fabricated stories and falsified his anti-Trump screeds being a CNN Journalist of the Year winner?
Schumer is going to have to filibuster the budget bill, or let it pass. Schumer and Pelosi got schlonged.
Will Chuck show his face tomorrow, and I mean our Chuck who was telling us all just few hours ago how the House would never put the money for the wall into the bill.
As I said to my radical left wing sister: I'm the guy that wants LESS government, why do you think I'll be upset by a 'shutdown'?
Then I point out to her that I put shutdown in scare quotes because the list of what is actually shutdown is short and inconsequential. But, but, she says, what about those poor government workers that have to work without pay during the shutdown??? Well, I said, they always get paid eventually.
But, but, she says, what about those poor government workers that have to work without pay during the shutdown??? Well, I said, they always get paid eventually.
Our local AM news found our new Dem Representative at a Dem holiday party in Des Moines The clip the news picked to air was the new Rep worried about federal workers not getting paid. The new Rep, like most leftist only know history from when they get out of bed. In Iowa history, Rep Bruce Braley, was asked by a reporter about all the problems the Nation was facing in the midst of a shutdown. He said times were bad, they didn't have fresh towels at the House of Representatives Gym. Braley went on to lose his bid to lieutenant colonel Joni Earnst, to fill Tommy Bahama Harkins seat. (Harkin hadn't been seen in Iowa for years before he retired, or since he retired. Brayely left DC and returned to Colorado)
My question was completely serious, by the way. Just because I don't know, or can't fathom, the argument of someone I disagree with doesn't mean there isn't one.
Several Dems, Pelosi is probably the most prominent, are calling the wall "immoral". I sure wish one of our intrepid media folks would ask her to defend that, but they won't.
How many people die each year from attempting the border crossing through very hostile terrain?
Assume, for the sake of argument, a wall sufficiently effective to essentially eliminate all those crossings. The consequence, inevitably, would be all those lives saved, going forward.
"Can someone please explain to me the Democrat's argument for refusing $5B in wall funding?"
I set out to give you the argument, and realized I can't recall any argument. The Ds have told us that a Wall will make no difference. But they have also indicated that anyone who wants to build such a Wall is motivated by racism and xenophobia. With the clear indication that the Wall will be a very effective tool in the service of said racism and xenophobia. Else why oppose it? Let the racist xenophobes knock themselves out pouring concrete in the desert. I guess the argument is that our current policies lead to the separation of children and their parents at the border, which the Ds assure us is the worst thing that has ever occurred in recorded history, and they are adamantly opposed to anything that might put a stop to it. That $5B could build a cage for every child in Central America!

Ow wow.
It only took one session for the House to pass wall funding.
Pelosi was wrong.
Trump was right.
Now Schumer can filibuster and Cocaine Mitch can make it an old fashioned filibuster.
Trump would win the issue and the optics.
I called all this the day of the White House meeting.

gadfly,
Did you ever figure out why 2015 is a different year than 2017?
Exhales of Mind circa 2020 is when I and Laslo hit it big.
He just has to let Althouse know I am the King and the Best and he really needs my help, really.
Cause I'm the best.
DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY EPISODES OF THE LARRY SANDERS SHOW I'VE WATCHED???
I mean not unique episodes but hours total of the show consumed.
When the music to go to commercial came on, and then they kept showing you Larry...
OMG@!@!!!
Those fellas at HBO sure know a good thing when they see it.
I'd walk up to Laslo and say "hey man, I'm gonna make you see it's 2% inspiration and 98% stink, as in sweat. Persperation.
Do you know what I mean?
Huh?
Okay this was bad. My bad. Sorry. Good luck."
God Bless.

I'm an American, but living and working in Germany, so I'm not immersed in the US news cycle.
Can someone please explain to me the Democrat's argument for refusing $5B in wall funding?
Posi lied when she lectured Trump that he did not have the votes in the House. Some leader.
Schumer thinks people will be dissapointed over a government shutdown. Soon Schumer will be scrambling to take credit.
As I said to my radical left wing sister: I'm the guy that wants LESS government, why do you think I'll be upset by a 'shutdown'?

Shutdown fake news!!!
Someone mentioned on an earlier thread that Trump was playing rope-a-dope on the wall funding.
Right on the button. (Twas I)

“The experts say you can do border security without a wall, which totally does not solve the problem,” Schumer said.
Authentic Washington Gibberish...

The wall is "immoral".
Really. That's what they say.
"The experts say you can do border security without a wall"
Fine - then increase funding for ICE and Border Patrol, and let them do their job.
The wall is "immoral".
Really. That's what they say
Is that it?

I'm trying to figure out how that is immoral.
I must not be sufficiently clever.
