"'And so when my surgeon was like, You have the most misshapen and diseased uterus I’ve seen in my entire career, I was like, This is vindication.'... 'I texted Jack last week and said, HOW DOES IT FEEL TO HAVE DATED SOMONE EVERYBODY HATES? in all capitals. He wrote back, They only hate you because they love you so much, true story. Which is like, What a sweetie. What a liar and a sweetie.' Dunham lists the reasons for the hate — with her explanations for why she is the way she is — as if she were reciting a poem imprinted on her brain in grade school... She remembers, right after the hysterectomy, crying to Jemima Kirke, 'Who’s gonna want to date me? I have PTSD and no uterus.' Kirke’s answer: 'A soldier who hates condoms.'"
From "'Yeah, I’m Not for Everyone'/Lena Dunham comes to terms with herself" — a very long article in New York Magazine.
Note the chance reappearance of the word "sweetie," the topic of the previous post.
And don't forget to use condoms to avoid getting and giving STDs.

Why is this woman famous? Is she talented?
I understand she is an actress but I've never seen any of her work.
When Nature says Keep Away, Lena Dunham and Sinead O’Connor.
Why is this woman famous?
I see her mentioned in this blog occasionally. Is that fame?
The word "uterus" makes me think of
You terus,
I terus,
We all terus for ice cream.
TMI.
Our culture has lost sight of the truth that youthful memoir is not the highest form of literature.
"You have the most misshapen and diseased uterus I’ve seen in my entire career" - said no surgeon ever.
I fell off my bike once and landed face first into a pile of gravel, ended up with several hundred pieces of rock to get pulled out of my face. Good fun. The ER doc: This is very good as you did not get anything in your eye. Nor will you have scars on your lip, so no need for any surgery.

PS - Turns out if you don't let scabs form you don't get scars. I look at those pictures and am amazed I'm not any uglier than I am. :-)
Ughs all around
It would take more than a pack of Trojans to get me near her.
Has to keep her name in the news, I suppose. Why is she the way she is? She was raised that way by her cultural-elite parents who wanted a child just like her. And Girls is how she thanked them.
"Girls" was an important and excellent TV show. Get used to it.
"Get used to it" Wow a 5', 65 year old gal showing her creds. Here is a relativist telling you in absolute terms. Reaction- a good laugh.
The only thing we know Dunham ever wished she could do with her uterus was to have an abortion in it.
Wasn't "Girls" on HBO? I have never had HBO.
If someone is on HBO and I never had HBO, then are they really famous?
"Girls" was an important and excellent TV show. Get used to it.
If you say so, he said indifferently. Meanwhile, sensible people of affairs did things of importance.
So glad I have never had to watch or listen to her.
Good God Professor, why are you so interested in Lena Dunham? Serious question, why?
Personally, I find everything about her to be so "un"
A television show may be excellent, but no television show is important.
"Girls" was an important and excellent TV show. Get used to it."
In what way was it important and where was the nearly universal consensus of the show's excellence?
You have the most misshapen and diseased uterus I’ve seen in my entire career
What are the odds? It's always celebrities who have it worst of all.
"You have the most misshapen and diseased uterus I’ve seen in my entire career"
About what you would expect from a misshapen and diseased cunt.
It's like watching an auto accident. Some people just can't turn away.
Art isn't just pretty things, but then pretty things aren't always art.
narrator: "Art Carney!! Audrey Meadows!! (applause)"
There's a series on Netflix called Fleabag. It explores some of the same territory, but it's far funnier......Lena Dunham's great talent is getting up people's noses. She's got some talent as a writer, but most of her talent is for self promotion, albeit in a negative way. She's no Jane Fonda, but she's truly and consistently annoying. I'd put her in a class with Pauline Kael.
"You have the most misshapen and diseased uterus I’ve seen in my entire career, and when I looked into your ear, I was surprised to find out that I could look out of the other ear. It's like there's nothing in between."
Of course Girls was an important show, and, if you haven't watched it, maaaybe not what you think it is (although there's always the possibility that's it's not what I thought it was...). 87 on Metacritic qualifies as pretty highly acclaimed.
As William says, it you liked Girls, definitely check out Fleabag.
Veteran sitcom writer Ken Levine said more than once on his blog that he didn't care for Girls, but that Lena Dunham should be head of NBC because of her genius for promotion.
Now I've got the concept of PTSTD in my head, dammit!
Althouse, what is the rest of your "Great and Excellent TV Shows list?
Please educate us so we can soldier on armed with this knowledge.
Forget the STDs. Wear condoms to avoid getting and giving babies.
I never watched her show, but I saw the part in her first autobiography about molesting her sister. I guess Dunham might be a role model for young girls with already messed up lives, but generally I think she's a poor role model.
"Girls" was an important and excellent TV show. Get used to it.
Says who?
You have the most misshapen and diseased MIND I’ve seen in my entire career.
fixed it
'A soldier who hates condoms.'"
That was funny. Almost Lasloesque.
I think PTSD and no uterus are way way down on the list of reasons why men don’t want to date her.
Dunham never misses an opportunity to be vile. Why value repugnance as a talent?
Adam Driver was the best thing on Girls
So now TV shows are important? Is it a subset or all of them? If true this sucks because I don't think I've ever seen the important ones.
I plan on going my entire life with out ever seeing or listening to anything this woman does.
"When she woke up from her surgery..."
So the story has a sad ending, then.
"Girls" was an important and excellent TV show. Get used to it.
Actually, it was not. It was pure dreck, and the substandard ratings prove that. Notwithstanding the cloistered college professor clique. I think you folks think there are more of you than there really are.
I had never even heard of this show until years after it started, and then only because LD started running her mouth saying vile things that Althouse would criticize if it were a man saying it.
Now I get that in the Academic Echo Chamber where all the Feminist Sociology types that Althouse was twittering with probably reached a consensus that girls being vile to men was excellent and important.
This is a niche audience. Didn't it only last 3 seasons and only because of extreme wokeness?
But allow me to serve back: Star Wars, Game of Thrones and video games were excellent and important.
If you refuse to accept that, Madam Althouse, why should I give your opinion of your favorites any consideration, considering I have dozens of products and MILLIONS more consumers than Girls?
Short form: your assertion is an opinion and a personal one.
Six seasons. New York, LA and Madison seem to have an oversized influence on a program
The critically adored HBO comedy, never a ratings juggernaut, finishes its sophomore run about 350,000 south of the season one ender, but the series sees a steady average in gross viewership.
HBO's Girls wrapped up its second season Sunday night, pulling in 632,000 viewers during the inaugural broadcast.
The haul is down roughly 368,000 viewers from the freshman season's 1 million-strong ender, but while the HBO comedy has seen dips in first-run returns since its season bow in January, it has been making up for it in delayed viewing.
The key words are 'second season'.
""Girls" was an important and excellent TV show. Get used to it."
A scream heard from inside the bubble.
Imagine a male version of this excellence and importance. "Boys"?
Were I Durham, I would LEAD the conversation with hysterectomy on any potential date.
The larger negatives will come out with the subsequent conversation.
""Girls" was an important and excellent TV show. Get used to it."
Old entitled privileged feminist retard likes slightly younger entitled privileged feminist retard's irrelevant show that maybe half of one percent of the country ever saw.
Your opinion is bad, and you should feel bad. Get used to it.
Ya know Lena Dunham's biggest regret in life is? Never having had an abortion.
It doesn't get much sicker than that.
Why is this woman famous?
That's the very question I ask whenever I see anything about Lena Dunham.
And then I move on.
I just don't get it.
In a previous era, religious types might've asserted that her uterus becoming diseased was divine retribution for her public statement that she regretted never having had an abortion.
Despite being agnostic, I can appreciate this desire to perceive such cosmic justice in the world. That would certainly qualify.
The second worst is that of the Azgoths of Kria. During a recitation by their poet master Grunthos the Flatulent of his poem "Ode to a Small Lump of Green Putty I Found in My Armpit One Midsummer Morning" four of his audience died of internal haemorrhaging and the president of the Mid-Galactic Arts Nobbling Council survived by gnawing one of his own legs off.
Grunthos was reported to have been "disappointed" by the poem's reception, and was about to embark on a reading of his 12-book epic entitled "My Favourite Bathtime Gurgles" when his own major intestine, in a desperate attempt to save humanity, leapt straight up through his neck and throttled his brain.
It seems Durham's uterus was gearing up something similar until the doctors stopped it from saving the rest of us from her 'artistic opinions'.
Dunham is as deranged as her uterus is diseased. Get used to it.
Girls - to do the dishes
Girls - to clean up my room
Girls - to do the laundry
Girls - and in the bathroom
Coincidentally:
The horrifying story of a prostitute orangutan
SNL parody of 'GIRLS'............good one(no diseased uterii)

"...you are soft and weak,...and dressed like bebe!"
Is no one going to say that Lena has done the human race a favor? Darwin smiles.
Imagine a show about self-indulgent young men obsessed with trivia about themselves. Imagine a male professor telling you it was intelligent and important. Despite the fact that such a show would actually be unique rather than the cliche stuff "Girls" pretends is new, we all would laugh in that professor's face - all of us.
It's a lot like "Keeping up with the Kardashians" but with far less attractive women doing the same schtick, but without the money and connections.
"The horrifying story of a prostitute orangutan"
Now that is a truely valid critique of men - our libido can be an absolutely foul and debased thing not fit for modern life - truely selfish and brutal. That we have that and mostly control it is probably our greatest accomplishment.
Anyone who takes anything Dunham writes/says without a boulder of salt is way too trusting to be allowed out alone after dark.
"Glad I'm not the only one who thought Girls was just Sex & The City
as performed by a charity theatre group for the brain damaged.:
I didn't here about lena dunham and her crazy family, till the tail end of the 2012 election, the horror, the horror,
Althouse hot takes are the best!
Two Broke Girls got better ratings.
Wow. I watched both Girls and Entourage- the latter was a far better and important show, and it wasn't really important at all.
And I write that as somebody that loved Sex and the City a great deal- that was also a far more important show than Girls. Girls is a show that no one will be talking about a decade from now, unlike the other two shows I mentioned.
As Ingachuck’s toothlessARM mentioned, Tina Fey playing an Albanian refugee in a parody of Girls was on the money.
As far as tvshows go, Breaking Bad was excellent, maybe important if we’re referencing influence but I’m having a hard time seeing Girls as either. Also I’ve seen shows of both of her parents work and Carroll Dunham is just trolling everyone with inside jokes and purposely bad painting. After seeing the Toni Collete movie ‘Heredity’ I assume her deeply disturbed character was inspired by Lena’s mom, Laurie Simmons, a maker/photographer of high-art doll houses with creepy interior stories
As a heterosexual male with a pesky libido, I can, nevertheless, state that Lena Dunham or any orangutan would be metaphorical bridges too far.
Apparently, she was in a less than good TV show, along the lines of Sex and the City (or something like that). It’s the same old ‘female view of relationships’ dross.
Not sure condoms can prevent PTSD.
She PTSD from looking in a mirror to her soul.
