Newly released footage of the Acosta accosting.
ADDED: This is an important cultural moment. There is now a comic meme about being physically violent to a woman. Notice how it's upping the violence that makes it funnier and funnier. It ends with a "Road Runner" type image where a bag of "intern feed" is handed to the woman and then a giant weight falls on her. Have we ever seen mainstream comedy like that before? We're laughing at a woman getting crushed to death. And am I the only one who sees the words "intern feed" and thinks of Bill Clinton's semen?

i LOVE that close ups are Now Officially declared: DOCTORING
This is a comic montage, based on the closeup video that was called "doctored." I have a post about the undoctored original footage where I say Acosta hits the woman. I stand by my observation. I used WaPo's video, but some people in the comments wrongly accused me of using the so-called "doctored" image. The so-called "doctored" image was missing some frames which caused the hit to seem to occur more quickly than it did.
Anyway, this post is about the Colbert show's comic video. Please watch it before commenting!
"am I the only one who sees the words "intern food" and thinks of Bill Clinton's semen?"
Probably, but that's why we're here.
Must admit I never thought of Bill Clinton's jelly, but then I often try not think of him, much less his junk.
But hey, when the intern is working in the White House, she is non-human. You can get away with it. It being either physical assault or sexual assault.
A minnow[ard] needs a tiny bicycle like an adult intern needs Bill Clinton’s semen. On her dress.
An accurate Road Runner farce would be:
Acosta sets trap of intern of intern food and ACME safe perched precariously over spot where intern will eat intern food.
Intern eats the intern food, ACME safe doesn't fall, intern happily departs.
Acosta left to wonder why ACME safe doesn't fall, ACME safe falls on Acosta.
What a hackneyed rewrite of history. What the fuck else can lefties get wrong, for chrissakes...
I note that everyone is talking about doctored videos. So when Trump says Fake News, people think of videos that are probably doctored.
Master persuasion.
If it is between you and I -yes, until you typed it, you were the only one thinking of Bill Clinton's semen.
Apparently, you had already finished your breakfast. I had not.
On to Instapundit to finish the morning's reads.
I'm not a robot.
The important problem is girlfriends who tickle.
Please watch [Colbert show's video] before commenting!
No thanks.
I'm Sorry, Professor; I had watched it before commenting, but DID comment about the original :(
In regards to the comedy; There is now a comic meme about being physically violent to a woman.
I would (Respectfully) say, AS A REPUBLICAN, she (in the eyes of the media) is no longer a woman, but 'just an object', so violence is not just acceptable; but REQUIRED
Acosta is a semen stain on a free press.
It'says "intern feed" on the bag, like "bird feed". Just sayin'.
"Acosta is a semen stain on a free press."
Acosta is a semen stain on a blue press.
More than this intern, if you are married to someone considered unhuman on the right, then its fair game to assault your home. Granted, Colbert actually complained about this on Twitter, but I guess to be balanced, he then had to make this skit about abusing women is fun and humorous.
One of the party organs crafting "humor" from the work of another of the party organs. The way they wring every drop out of this current centerpoint of attention to ridicule the Bad Orange Man would get a respectful nod from Haydn for industry, if not for art.
Endlessly self-referential. If we need a thought of Big Dog to spackle the farrago together, so much the better. It's his world, and we are all still stuck living in it for a few more fleeting moments.
"It'says "intern feed" on the bag, like "bird feed". Just sayin'."
Thanks. Fixed. It's more apt as "feed," because it more clearly suggests the "Road Runner" idea of an animal being handed a bag of food to distract it.
The left are above the law and they don't even need to play by their own rules.
The left are a collective pile of lies and hypocrisy.
"Feed" is used in journalism, notably on Facebook — the "news feed."
How about a skit showing various conservative Supreme Court justices setting traps for RBG to get hurt/killed. Comedy gold.
"...she (in the eyes of the media) is no longer a woman, but 'just an object', so violence is not just acceptable; but REQUIRED"
If you don't Punch Hitler when you have a chance you are Literally Hitler yourself.
At least it wasn't labeled "intern seed."
The media pimps the lie that the video was doctored.
Showcasing yet again the larger issue. We don't have an honest press. Our press is corrupt.
What's interesting to me about Acosta is that his behavior does a 180 after one of these skirmishes. He goes on the air at CNN and presents himself in a professional and diplomatic manner. The difference is striking (and phony).
"An internship is a period of work experience offered by an organization for a limited period of time.[1] Once confined to medical graduates, the term is now used for a wide range of placements within businesses, non-profit organizations and government agencies. They are typically undertaken by students and graduates looking to gain relevant skills and experience in a particular field. Employers benefit from these placements because they often recruit employees from their best interns, who have known capabilities, thus saving time and money in the long run. Internships are usually arranged by third-party organizations which recruit interns on behalf of industry groups. Rules vary from country to country about when interns should be regarded as employees. The system can be open to exploitation by unscrupulous employers [and by Jim Acosta]"
Acosta needed an 'internvention.'
Acosta's an ass. Can you imagine if a Fox reporter had done the exact same thing in an Obama presser?
Good comment by Meade regarding semen.
The most interesting thing to me is how little introspection the Left has, They are epic hypocrites.
Since they were sort of making fun of Acosta, the safe should have landed on him after Sarah Sanders handed him a bag of "news feed" and the mic--but that's too close to the truth.
The worst thing about the Colbert thing is that it just wasn't funny. But that's par for the course.
It would be funnier if Acosta and his enablers were not such absurd assholes with no sense of humor.
Acosta wants to be his generation's Sam Donaldson. He is as annoying as Sam, but there is a level of alpha male bullying that Sam never demonstrated.
And am I the only one who sees the words "intern feed" and thinks of Bill Clinton's semen?
More than likely.
"The worst thing about the Colbert thing is that it just wasn't funny."
It's difficult for party propaganda to be funny; humor can be dangerous to the user if not tightly controlled. Attacking badthinkers is usually a sure bet (e.g., Krokodil).
On the other hand, it's nice that the anti-Trump faction has discovered a verb other than "hacked".
Heh. Now a meme:
And am I the only one who sees the words "____________" and thinks of Bill Clinton's semen?
Showcasing yet again the larger issue. We don't have an honest press. Our press is corrupt...
Larger issue as Buwaya points out is education establishment who have edumacated our ELITE while simultaneously dumbing students snowflakes
We are doctoring reality by merely perceiving it ...
So said Immanuel Kant in 1776.
"when you're the president they let you do it. Shove your dick down their throat, ruin their favorite blue dress. Whatever."
John Henry
"The worst thing about the Colbert thing is that it just wasn't funny."
This. I can tolerate the fake intern abuse but I cannot tolerate it being unfunny.
If the intern had been male would you have been OK with it Ann?
Is this a desire on your part for special treatment of women?
John Henry
Well, at least Acosta didn't attack the intern with a cigar.
Acosta is a very weak journalist. He got nothing out of those questions. A waste of getting credentials revoked.
CNN doctored the video, the last I heard, to make it look less threatening. That's doctoring. The Tweeted version was the original, the zoom feature was used at some point (still the original.)
Whatever. That woman was not assaulted and neither was Michelle Fields. The reporter was being an obnoxious asshole and got thrown out. It was the only civilized way to deal with an idiot that maybe should have been punched in the snoot.
AFAICT, the intern is an "enabler", not a "woman". No true woman would work for Trump, or so I've been told.
CNN doctored the video, the last I heard, to make it look less threatening
They should have doctored it to make Acosta look like less of a dick. Or perhaps they did...
"If the intern had been male would you have been OK with it Ann?"
I'll judge the video when I see it, but, generally, hitting women looks and feels different than hitting a man. Why is that? Some of it is traditional chivalry but some of it is that women are generally smaller and weaker than men, especially in upper body strength. I've taken note of some examples of larger men taking a physically bullying stance toward a smaller man. (That's something that makes me think of LBJ, whom I loathe.)
What's funny depends on who's who...
Roadrunner <> Wiley Coyote
= ?? Trump <> Media / Acosta
But then Wiley is to be mocked, pitied not feared??!!
Well. There was a lot of fun had over hate f------ Palin too. And Malkin. And Coulter. Might be a pattern that can be detected here.
Colbert is a scumbag who probably still believes Kavanaughs “accusers”.
Mic as phallic...
Mic retrieval = rape avoiding defense techniques.
Also. Is GIFfing a video doctoring... What did they call the fish feeding and hat tossing Trump videos?
How to handle grandstanding reporters who wish to subvert the solemnity of a press conference? I look back to some of the show trials like the Chicago Seven. Perhaps the more maladjusted reporters could be shackled to their chairs with a ball gag in their mouth. Sarah or the intern could take the ball gag out of their mouth to let them ask a brief question. If the question is falls outside accepted guidelines, Sarah or the intern could quickly reinsert the ball gag and whip the reporter. The only downside to such a system is that it would encourage reporters to ask disruptive questions in order to get the full treatment......Perhaps the better way is to have the reporters sit in another room and then have their questions forwarded to their lawyers who are sitting in the press room.
""If the intern had been male would you have been OK with it Ann?"
'I'll judge the video when I see it, but, generally, hitting women looks and feels different than hitting a man.'"
-- I'm curious. If the intern had been a man, do you think whoever sent her would have called her off after Acosta hit/pulled her the first time, or would he have been expected to keep trying to get the microphone?
Meade is practicing his best Bill Clinton impersonation today
It was altered!
Meade feed has a nice ring to it
In today's world, we might start seeing Virtual/Skype type press conferences where you're just muted until it is your turn to ask a question. Makes it cheaper and means you can have White House correspondents from anywhere in the world and increases physical security. Really, win-win.
Hell, you could then allow Random Blogger Bill in to the Press Gaggle or whatever without the physical restraints of space.
I could barely watch the original video, I just felt so bad for the poor girl, who clearly had no idea what she should do when Acosta broke the norm there. Now she’s got to deal with being not just a meme, but one that celebrates (cartoonish) violence against her? Jeeze, that’s cruddy.
Speaking of enemies of the press, why is the media not up in arms about cameras and media being banned from reporting on the ballot situation in Broward County?
I just hope no asshole doxes the girl and ruins her life forever.
Acosta is a the real deal.
He's a super star and it's all about him.
On Friday’s “Overtime” segment of HBO’s “Real Time,” journalist and author Bob Woodward stated that the press is “taking the bait” and getting “all steamy and emotionally unhinged” in its response to President Trump’s attacks on the media.
Woodward said, “I think that we’re taking the bait in the press. And Trump is just throwing it out on the table and saying, you know, you’re the enemy of the people. And then we get all steamy and emotionally unhinged about it.”
He continued that media outlets should follow up on good stories written by other outlets, which “means lots of work. And, let’s face it, we’ve become lazy, and we have to stop becoming lazy.” [my emphasis]
Yep, there should be more to news than Trump bashing.
Speaking of doctoring: Some people are saying it is missing frames, other people are finding additional frames. That's... odd.
Acosta is the brave harasser. If he could only get a side-gig and a mask, he'd make a great antifa brown-shirt.
this just in...
Republicans riot after the democrats re-take the house.
THAT'S A LIE!
They did NOT "doctor" the feed.
And sorry, that's lame humor.
Like a lot of today's comedy, its an excellent comic idea that's badly executed.
Frame rate is dependent on the playback performance of hardware and software. Apple TV offers an option to preserve native framerate. Turn it off and playback framerate changes. None of which means the video is doctored.
Do average people EVER get upset at the hypocrisy? Do they EVER notice it? Do they EVER stop believing people that have lied to them over and over?
Its astounding. The same people who lied about Fields are lying about Acosta.
Women can not operate in a mans worlds. Let's just get that fact out there.(sc)
Didn't Rick Lazio take a truck load of abuse for invading the fragile flower, Clinton's wife's space? Not touch. Got closer than 4 feet.
In that instance its the evil male at fault, because, shutup.
The facts are, no one was hurt. Acosta is a whiny jerk, same as always.
Leftist double standard, same as always.
I would have Acosta invited to the next presser President Trump does, and I would have a retired Navy Seal, or Ranger, or Green Beret, handle the mic. He would watch the President, and when he nodded, the 6'5" 285 military man trained to kill with his bare hands, would have the mic in his hand in a manner of seconds. Chances are President Trump would have the opportunity to nod, a few seconds into a speechifying media type question and cut them off. Yes, you would physically threaten the media with raw size and power. On purpose. For show. Because you're the President, and you can.
The Roadrunner bit was unfunny because the meme portrays Acosta as a successful Wile E. Coyote- it cuts against the grain of the cultural reference in a way that just falls flat- it isn't like the intern has a much higher social status than Acosta- she is the "Road Runner" in the food chain of journalism here, and the writers for Colbert know this, but just can't write the scene the way it needs to be written to make it acutally funny. It amazes me how unwilling the Left's comedians are to make fun of themselves. Humor can be used effectively as status raising tool, but a great deal of that humor has to be true self-deprecation- the Left basically fails on this 100% of the time now.
Just watch the correspondents' dinner routines with any Republican President, and then watch those with President Obama- the difference is stunning. I think the Soviet press in Stalin's time probably were more willing to poke fun at the leader than today's journalists were at Obama. People who are unable to make fun at their own expense just seem less human to me.

Of COURSE they're not up in arms! It's how they want it
Democracy Dies In Darkness!
It's been their stated intention for quite some time
And I am actually untroubled by the joke violence against the intern- the bit was a cartoon. The objection I have is that the bit at the end was not funny because it badly misuses the cultural allusion.
At the appearance of the knife, and surrender of authority by the intern, I propose an edit.
Like a quarterback scrambling sideways to find his receiver, another TRUE hero draws his .40 and sends a 2 inch high velocity group into Acosta's rib cage. I'd pay to see that! HEY LASLO CALL ME!
Yancy said: It amazes me how unwilling the Left's comedians are to make fun of themselves
Of COURSE they're unwilling to make fun of the Left; for Exactly the same reason they're unwilling to make fun of Islam... They value their skin
What do you think Antifa, et al, would do to a Journalist that blasphemed the Left?
Same as would happen to a Journalist that blasphemed the prophet
Doctor Video??
whatever happened to Captain Video? Career move, or 2 diff guys??
@Yancy
I told you-- Anvils! Not giant catapults.
Ann, I rarely address you directly. But.
I agree with your sentiment. I respect women. Always. Treat them, well, like a women. How or why is that the proper response in today's gender neutral, PC culture? I'm being serious. admitting to gender roles is bigoted today. No difference between males and females. I could not have responded to the female intern the way Acosta did. I would have given up instantly. 6 decades of training cannot be overcome by reeducation. For me, send in the women, and I'm playing defense all of a sudden. Not the way it's supposed to be in today's world.
And am I the only one who sees the words "intern feed" and thinks of Bill Clinton's semen?
Perhaps. But at the end of the clip posted yesterday the intern gets down on her knees and that reminded me of Bill Clinton.
can we expect a 'Bill Clinton Semen' tag in the future? This could go viral.
Word has somehow got around that a split infinitive is always wrong. This is of a piece with the sentimental and outworn notion that it is always wrong to strike a lady. Everybody will recall at least one woman of his acquaintance whom, at one time, or another, he has had to punch or slap. I have in mind a charming lady who is overcome by the unaccountable desire, at formal dinners with red and white wines, to climb up on the table and lie down. Her dinner companions used at first to pinch her, under cover of the conversation, but she pinched right back or, what is even less defensible, tickled. They finally learned that they could make her hold her seat only by fetching her a smart downward blow on the head. She would then sit quietly through the rest of the dinner, smiling dreamily and nodding at people, and looking altogether charming.
A man who does not know his own strength could, of course, all too easily overshoot the mark and, instead of producing the delightful languor to which I have alluded, knock his companion completely under the table, an awkward situation which should be avoided at all costs because it would leave two men seated next to each other. I know of one man who, to avert this faux pas, used to punch his dinner companion in the side (she would begin to cry during the red-wine courses), a blow which can be executed, as a rule, with less fuss, but which has the disadvantage of almost always causing the person who is struck to shout...

Sounds like a cop out. You seriously expect us to believe that you can't imagine the video, "see" it in your mind, exactly the same way but with a male intern? Really?
generally, hitting women looks and feels different than hitting a man.
I agree. That is why we have comic strips where the long running gag is a wife beating her husband. Usually with something heavy:
Maggie and Jiggs Maggie hitting Jiggs with a rolling pin when he comes in late
Snuffy Smith the wife beating Snuffy with a cast iron skillet
Blondie with Ms Dithers beating Mr Dithers with an umbrella
Andy Capp with his wife beating him with a huge purse
Dilbert with Alice's "Fist of Death"
I have never heard anyone complain about any of these. Not you that I can recall.
In domestic abuse, women are every bit as likely to be violent and cause as much injury to their domestic partner (male or female) as men are. It's true also in male-male domestic couples. It seems to be more about domestic relationships than sex
When they go to the police claiming that their wives they used to be laughed out of the station house. They are called "hen-pecked" or "Pussy-whipped" both implying violence on the part of a woman making a man an object of scorn.
Female on male violence in America has always been an object for laughter and ridicule of the male victim. Jokes about male on female violence can be enough to get someone fired.
It just feels wrong to me. If one is wrong, both are wrong. If one is OK, both are OK.
Except for those claiming that women should get special (unequal) treatment.

There he goes again, another example of the fascist/progressive "Big Lie" so beloved of Goebbels et al.
I've got $10 that can point me to a tweet or video of President Trump saying anything like "The media is the enemy of the people" Not a report that he said it. There are plenty of those. I want some evidence that he actually said it.
What he has always said is that "fake news" (not the media in general) is the enemy of the people.
Inga? Squeamish? Chuck? Seems right up your alley to find something. If it exists.

The current day fascists (antefa) wear black shirts, and masks, just like the original Fascists.
Your point, generally is well taken and I agree other than your fashion sense.

I recently was escorted to an interview by a woman who worked for the headhunter that was trying to place me. In the hall outside the office, there was a short bench and she told me to sit down on it, so I did. I then realized that
a) she was not going to sit down next to me, and
b) there was no place else for her to sit.
I stood it (sat it?) as long as I could, and then I got up. She asked what was wrong, and I had to apologize for being unwilling to sit in the presence of a standing woman. Which I suppose is now some other kind of bad manners, but she didn't make an issue of it.

This just proves that even the ineffectual 90-lb weaklings intimidates the impotent. Sad
What he has always said is that "fake news" (not the media in general) is the enemy of the people.
What he actually said [I was watching] was "When you report fake news you are the enemy of the people".
In the Ron Burgundy gang fight, all the combatants are male. It is difficult to see how you could include a "newswoman" in that joke. Violence against men is often funny. The only time I can remember laughing our loud at violence against a woman is when Sarah Silverman got punched in the face at the start of The Way Of The Gun.
And am I the only one who sees the words "____________" and thinks of Bill Clinton's semen?
Now I know what to put on one of those blank Cards Against Humanity cards.
John Henry - Agreed and point well taken.
A soft and durable blend of the Nazi brown shirt - and the extra fascist "anti"fa" fascist black mask. Better.

Yup. Seen that and other statements along those lines. How do you construe that to the more general statement that "The media [in general] is the enemy of the people"?
Unless you think the media is 100% fake news.
I think there is an awful lot of fake news out there but 100%? Nope.
Full disclosure: As a working journalist myself, albeit in a specialized corner of the media, I would resent the implication that "the media" is the, an?, enemy of the people if I thought he was saying that. But as far as I can tell, he never has.
The "media is the enemy of the people" is like the pussy quote pulled out of all proportion and used to say the opposite of what he actually said. (If a woman "let's" you grab their pussy, that's consent, not assault)
John Henry
“And am I the only one who sees the words "intern feed" and thinks of Bill Clinton's semen?”
Probably.
The video was not doctored, it was converted to a gif. Gifs drop the frame rate.
Forget the gif, watch the original.
Now they say it was made to make Acosta seem more aggressive. Yesterday they denied contact at all.
Althouse is right. He blocked her with the back of his hand.
The intern feed is dehumanizing and othering a female body. The implication is that her only real value is as a cock holster.
Not in the second anchorman ladies from the BBC entertainment tonight and CBC all got into the scrum
We're laughing at a woman getting crushed to death.
That's not funny..right?
I'll judge the video when I see it, but, generally, hitting women looks and feels different than hitting a man. Why is that? Some of it is traditional chivalry but some of it is that women are generally smaller and weaker than men, especially in upper body strength.
Hmmm..so in certain cases women should or maybe even must be treated different than men. OK..I'll go along with that. Now, can you provide a single instance when this benefits men and not women?
Suddenly turning anything into a .gif is doctoring.
Wow our media is stupid.
Acosta AND Colbert need to be bitch slapped up and down the road by the intern's dad brother uncle boyfriend etc.
Douche bag in Paris
Stalker?
Althouse is getting the vapors again. Her search for equality ends at the idea that women have to give up a single female privilege, including offending their dignity with a joke.
But that is pretty common among women. I am reminded of 'The Sweetest Thing', a female 'comedy'.
Essentially, every bit of humor was a girl being grossed out or embarrassed. Certainly not horribly stupid, or getting hurt.
Same with that Ghostbusters remake. I didn't laugh once. I was not alone.
So 'not getting humor'...it could be a pretention thing or a gender thing, but it is definitely an Althouse thing.
I thought the video was funny. But the absurdity was Acosta.
This is a waste of discussion. It isn't that Acosta lightly shoved the intern's arm. While Althouse calls that 'hitting', it is the PRETENTION and ARROGANCE that Acosta is owed a platform or as much time as he wants.
The word that Donaldson sort of had, but Acosta totally lacks is professionalism and even the WaPo has called him on it.
I miss Lucille Ball and Carol Burnett.
The premise of the humor is that she didn’t really have the right to take the microphone, that is was just a squabble between two people each with a claim to the microphone. But that ain’t so.
People are laughing at an intern in the Trump White House getting crushed to death. That makes it all right, since such women are by definition untermensch.
Trump should hire male interns: big, beefy, rugby playing interns
We’re sort of living in a cartoon era already. If Jim Acosta were not already a well known name, more attention would be paid to his last name and how closely what he does resembles accosting. Likewise, we have a President who dominates (trumps) nearly every competitive situation. It’s a stretch, but Althouse commenters mostly behave like they’re visiting a familiar old house.
I must have missed the video Colbert did after that asshole Senate intern yelled "fuck Trump" at President Trump in the Capitol Bldg.
Ann asks
am I the only one who sees the words "intern feed" and thinks of Bill Clinton's semen?
Ew. I hope there aren't many. Ann, that's some nasty taste reveal. Good grief.

Democrat men have always been allowed to abuse women, Ms. Althouse because you feminists don't hold them to account, not consistently or reliably.

And am I the only one who sees the words "intern feed" and thinks of Bill Clinton's semen?
God I hope so
1984: "The old civilizations claimed that they were founded on love or justice. Ours is founded upon hatred. In our world there will be no emotions except fear, rage, triumph, and self-abasement. Everything else we shall destroy--everything. Already we are breaking down the habits of thought which have survived from before the Revolution. ... We shall abolish the orgasm. Our neurologists are at work upon it now. There will be no loyalty, except loyalty towards the Party. There will be no love, except the love of Big Brother. There will be no laughter, except the laugh of triumph over a defeated enemy. There will be no art, no literature, no science. When we are omnipotent we shall have no more need of science. There will be no distinction between beauty and ugliness. There will be no curiosity, no enjoyment of the process of life. All competing pleasures will be destroyed. But always--do not forget this, Winston--always there will be the intoxication of power, constantly increasing and constantly growing subtler. Always, at every moment, there will be the thrill of victory, the sensation of trampling on an enemy who is helpless. If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face--for ever.'
I don’t always or even frequently laugh at Colbert stuff I see, but this was well done and on point.
