Violent headline in The Washington Post: "Time for Mueller to bring out the big guns."

It's just an op-ed by a lawprof, and I haven't read it, but I see it's #1 on the "Most Read" list in the sidebar, so the headline worked as clickbait. Which makes me notice that the list should be headed "Most Clicked," because, as I said, I didn't read the op-ed, and I doubt if many of WaPo's readers (i.e. clickers) did. I mean I glanced at it again just to get an idea of when I decided, after clicking, that I didn't really want to read it after all, and I couldn't get past the first sentence...
Even as special counsel Robert S. Mueller III marches forward with his prosecution of former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort, and as the case that President Trump engaged in criminal conduct grows stronger, the president and his lawyer Rudolph W. Giuliani continue their tango about whether the president will deign to answer questions from Mueller’s team.
... and even then, I was just thinking idle thoughts like: marches forward, that sounds like something that might be done with big guns, but oh, what's this?, a tango. Mueller is marching and has guns, and Trump and Giuliani are tangoing. And they're purportedly tangoing "about" something. How do you tango about whether to answer questions?

It makes me think about the old aphorism "Writing about music is like dancing about architecture." The point there is, obviously, you can't dance about architecture (so you can't write about music). It's a great line, because it's so trippy to think about dancing about architecture.

This sounds like a tit for tat headline, considering yesterday there was an op-ed from Goodwin saying Trump should bring out his big gun and declassify all the FBI files on the matter. To me, the problem is if Mueller has a "big gun"; he should have brought it out long ago. I guess he could wait a bit longer to try and affect the mid-terms, but if that happens; then what's the difference between the supposed Russian interference and the FBI's own colluding efforts to interfere with an election? One could argue it has happened twice now from the FBI and in an effort to delegitimize our whole electoral process.

When I read something like this, I wonder the writer is imagining. What actual crimes has Trump committed does this person imagine has Mueller discovered?

A stunning feature of the drama Trump has inflicted on the country is that we have become inured to daily dishonesty of an unprecedented sweep and magnitude. We acquiesce, or at least cease to push back against, the argument that lying to the media and public is no crime.

we have become "inured" to "dishonest" because of this? It's almost as if the Obama adminstration and decades of Hillary and Bill's Clinton's shenanigans never happened. Trust me, people in this country are extremely acclimatized to powerful people lying to their faces. That's one of the big reasons we got Trump. Politicians lying is par for the course. It's what is lied about that is significant.

I do not understand how it is possible for an intelligent, educated person to read junk like this and think that they are being informed. Honestly, the anti-Trump editiorials that appear in virtually every newspaper, day after day, seem to be written by people driven insane by Trump hatred.
Mueller's investigation may or may not lead to proof of collusion between Trump's campaign and Russian state actors, but there is no sign that it will. When I read between the lines I see a prosecuter who knows that he has failed to make a case, and who now wants to bring obstruction of justice charges. Given developments in the Manafort trial, it's time to republish my masterwork, Mueller on the Hunt:

Mueller and a pack of Dems
Set off to snare a Trump.
Instead he tripped on Manafort,
And fell upon his rump.
“He's laundered money shamelessly
And lived a hog on high!”
Trump zoomed by in motorcade,
He twittered on the fly:
“Don’t be downcast dear Bob,
There’s other prey out there.
Hillary deserves a look.
She’s played footsie with the Bear.”

Mueller and his pack of Dems
Set off cross bog and fen.
“There’s criminals in that there swamp.
We’ll catch ‘em if we can.
Anyone know that Hillary?
He sounds a nasty bloke.
Keep you eyes and noses clear
Cuz where there’s fire there’s smoke!”

So off went Mueller fearlessly
Seeking out a crime.
He’s got guns and men enough
Bought with the public’s dime.
He’ll huff and puff most mightily
Until he claims a prize.
The rest of us get on with life
And try to hide our eyes.

If you strip away all the groundless speculation by the media, isn't obstruction actually the only piece of the Mueller investigation that has ever been confirmed to involve Trump directly? Comey (privately) confirmed to Trump multiple times that he was not under investigation, and it was only after the potential "obstruction" charge arising from Comey's termination that it was kicked over to a special counsel. And Comey (and Strzok et al.) had been investigating the same subject matter as the Mueller for months at that point.

There's somewhat more grounds to speculate about potential criminal election law violations in connection with payoffs to porn stars and mistresses (reviving the theory from the failed John Edwards prosecution), but Mueller affirmatively decided to spin the Michael Cohen investigation off to one of the US Attorneys' offices reporting up to the President, which -- unless Mueller is actually just as much of a crook as some of Trump's supporters think he is -- strongly suggests that Mueller and Rosenstein evaluated the evidence available and decided it was unlikely Trump was involved (since investigating your boss is a potential conflict for a line prosecutor, and is the whole justification for these special counsel investigations in the first place).

Anyone remember the McMartin Pre-School case back in the 80's? Yeah, lots of lives were ruined over that. From the git-go it was ridiculous on its face.

You can read about it here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McMartin_preschool_trial

By 1989 it had already started to fall apart. That summer I found myself sitting next to a journo from the Louisville Courier Journal at a dinner. Somehow this came up and she was covering it.

I was pretty skeptical. She was upset that I would be skeptical. I remember her specifically saying to me "If it weren't true it would not be getting so much coverage. 75% (or some large, questionable percentage) of the public believe it. They wouldn't believe it if it weren't true."

I don't remember if I told he "Bullshit" but I realized that conversation was fruitless. She was not some newbie. She was in her 30s and had been a journo for a while.

I think this is what is happening with the collusion. We have fake news journos repeating the collusion and crime story which has always been sketchy at best then using the fact that some large percentage of the public believe it as proof that it is true.

We have people commenting here that are like that. We have others, including myself, commenting that it is not true based on stuff others say.

Very few people really know and they aren't talking. But it is fun to bloviate about it. As I and others are prone to do.

Many of Ann's readers profess themselves in the dark about what possible crimes the president may have committed. The current and upcoming Manafort trials offer a partial menu: money laundering, bank and wire fraud, income tax evasion and other financial crimes, as well as political crimes such as the one called "conspiracy to defraud the US", namely by scheming with a hostile foreign power to rig an election. Mueller is also said to be seeking evidence to bring obstruction of justice charges along with his inquiries into Trump's forays into bribery and espionage.
Of course Ann and many of her readers don't think those are crimes, so long as they have been committed by the president. They think the same way about crimes committed by Chris Collins, Wilbur Ross, Scott Pruitt, Jim Jordan and so on and on. Hey, when is main Justice going to catch on and let Manafort go?

Think that’s obstruction? You’ll have trouble proving it since Comey testified under oath that he did NOT feel pressured by Trump and understood Trump was simply advocating for his friend to have the situation resolved. Add to that the fact Trump’s words did not slow or stop the investigation of Flynn and there is no prima facia evidence of obstruction. It doesn’t matter what Trump’s staff told him about Flynn or any of the other nonsense the author Moon linked to says. If Comey wasn’t pressured and said so under oath there’s no case. Period.

There's literally no evidence that Trump has engaged in any criminal conduct or that Mueller even has any. We know that because it hasn't leaked out yet. That's why Mueller is so desperate to interview Trump - to create evidence in a perjury trap.

Notice also that Mueller doesn't even want to ask Trump about the Russian collusion bullshit - a tell that he no evidence of that so-called crime. He's focused on the obstruction of justice allegation, which is also impossible because Trump can fire Comey for any damn reason he wants to, and the tweets as obstruction argument is just plain silly. Then again, the Mueller investigation is not about criminal activity, it's about finding a justification for impeachment.

Thus, he wants to get Trump lying about something, which could happen if Trump is not super-precise with his words, which he isn't typically, and then it's on to the impeachment over fibbing under oath just like Bill Clinton - though as we all know, most Dems are on record that lying under oath is not a High Crime or Misdemeanor. Not that it matters to them. They don't even need an investigation - they say ridiculous things like "as the case that President Trump engaged in criminal conduct grows stronger" and some of their retard followers actually believe that nonsense. Scalpels, machetes, ... have proven to be more effective when targeting a captive audience.

@bigsnot20,

Schlump stole the erection from Hillary in 2016. We are in 2018, and stuck with the worst president since Nixon. Get real, and wake up from your coma. Mueller will take care of Schlump, but not in the manner to which he is accustomed. No one is above the law some idiot once said. Let's hope that it at least applies to Schlump's high crimes and misdemeanors.

Except for every single democrat.

Stating something as if it were a fact doesn't make it a fact. However, it's an effective writing technique for swaying the Leftie chumps among us, who're ready to accept any negative pronouncement about Trump. Fact is, there is no case against Trump, so the case isn't getting stronger.

Drago: thanks, my vocabulary and reading comprehension requires simpler words than monosyllables.

Back when Donald Trump was nursing his heel spurs and going bowling, Lt. Bob Mueller of the 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines was bringing out some pretty big guns.

Chuck was going to serve. But he decided that his best service would be to criticize Trump for not serving--except as Commander-in-Chief now.

Thank you, Chuck, for your service!

He's sure taking his time, He's even got it going in the wrong direction. Not like Obama and the Dems. Nosiree. When they got a down economy, they made sure it stayed down. They even told us it was the new normal.

LLR is impressed with Mueller’s 4 MONTHS of combat. Mueller and Kerry - twins separated at birth.

I looked up Mueller's length of service. Google gave me websites that treated him like he was the greatest military hero ever.

Hmm. If he really is a Republican (who went to prep school with Kerry) I doubt that he would get such uncritical treatment from the MSM.

The deep state is a hydra.

Hey, just think, if Mueller hadn't served, we might have lost the Vietnam War!

Wonder what kinds of failures, prodigalities, and injustices he accomplished over there. Hey, maybe if he hadn't served (and taken his butt-buddy Kerry with him), we WOULD have won.

Please don't feed the mouth breathers.
It ruins the continuity of an otherwise good debate.

The “crime” in Bezosland are the tariffs. A lot of things Amazon sells are not price elastic. Jeff will still make a big profit, just not as big as before.
