Just a typical day on any Althouse thread. I don’t know how she can stand the majority of her own commenters.

It’ll be an effective ad. A lot of voters are single issue voters.
For me, kneeling for the national anthem regardless of the reason, is a way to create separation and division; one of the effects of demonstrating support and respect for the flag, the anthem and those who have suffered in support of the same, is to bring people of different ideals together in unity. We are all Americans joined as one under the flag.
My direct descendants served during the Revolutionary War. How about you?

This is a simple issue:
Football players have the legal right under the Constitution to kneel during the National Anthem.
Football players insult our intelligence by claiming their protest is against things other than the Flag and the USA when it occurs during the National Anthem. For example, they could stage a protest before the beginning of the second half, but they don't.
Football team owners have the legal right to dictate what football players do while at work, which includes the time during which the National Anthem is played.
Fans have the legal right to give or not to give their money and time to the NFL.
This issue will play out in economic terms. Team owners seem committed to supporting their players over the Flag and willing to take a certain level of financial hit for it. We're going to find out how large that hit will be and if it is more than the owners can stand.
Tasteful and effective.
There is NO legitimate reason to be protesting during the national anthem. Doing it is spitting on the US.

So what? We have an absolute right to ignore you. Trying to force us to pay attention to your protest is an assault upon our civil rights, which are at least as important as your civil rights.
I think "Beto" is going to get crushed over this, and he should.
Here in Austin I see lots of BETO signs in yards. No Cruz signs. I'm guessing the vote will be for Beto in Austin. But he stands zero chance of winning the state. None.
Cruz would have to be caught with the proverbial dead hooker or live boy before election to lose. Being Cruz, it is a worry, but I think he can restrain himself until after the first Tuesday in November.
