I’ve seen an avalanche of evidence in recent years about the potential hazards of blue-wavelength light. (I talked about blue light exposure, and how to manage it, on CBS This Morning recently.)
Scientific studies have pinpointed blue light as form of light that’s especially aggressive in triggering sleeplessness. Blue light suppresses melatonin production for more than twice as long as other light wavelengths, and alters circadian rhythms by twice the degree. Interference with the body’s 24-hour circadian rhythms can have a significant effect on health, creating problems with the cardiovascular, metabolic, and immune systems, disturbing mood, and compromising cognitive function.
I learned about the built in iPad red-screen last night. Looks like it will work even better than the physical red filter I use during astronomy observing sessions.
I had a very vivid dream last night in which I bought a rather large book at B&N with a picture of a man looking sort of like Teddy Roosevelt inn full cry on the dust jacket with the title of the book - "THAT WAS THEN/THIS IS NOW" - split above and below the picture.
Not sure what this was supposed to mean, except that politicians' positions will "evolve" with the results of the last election.
I've gotten so used to the perfect illumination and font size in my e-books that reading a real book is problematic.
Anyway, it's rare to see someone out in the world looking around. Too bad, I think the world is more interesting than your tablet. The doctor's waiting room not so much.
Perhaps we should all start wearing rose-colored glasses in the evenings.
I just spent my Independence Day morning on the beach, with a mug of coffee, my dog, and a book to read on my cell phone. Fortunately, the sun came out and made the cell-phone screen completely unreadable, so I was forced to play with my dog instead.
It is both a White and a Black Privilege to sit around with family and picnic on the Fourth of July. Most of the pork ribs sold in America are eaten that day.
I'd assumed he was Calvin, but Wiki says Cale is short for Caleb, which I've never heard with a short "a." Perhaps he didn't want to be share a name with a vegetable, in case he became one.
The snooty English-English pronounce Marlborough as Mawl'brah. Wonder what they do with Yarborough.
Today I wandered through all the Proteas in bloom on Signal Hill, looking a bit east of Robben Island, toward the Indian Ocean on one side and the Atlantic on the other. I sat there thinking about the view from the other 2 southerly points I rode to, the spectacular but travel-comfy Cape Leeuwin, and the view across the Beagle Channel from Ushuaia at an extreme 68 degrees latitude, a few days after the desolate ride down the Straight of Magellan from the little fishing town of Porvenir.
This is the last time south. Made me a wee bit sad, tbh. But at breakfast, Emerald’s attack piece in the American Spectator had made me happy.
ConservativeTreehouse] By now everyone has reported about ABC journalist Brian Ross and his Producer Rhonda Swartz resigning from the network. However, almost everyone pointing back to Ross’s fake news report on Michael Flynn in December; and almost no-one is pointing out the more obvious motive for the resignation.
Brian Ross was almost guaranteed to be "Reporter 4" in the federal indictment of Senate former senior senate intelligence committee staffer James Wolfe. The notorious Senate Intelligence "leaker"....

That lad needs to stand up straight. His posture is going to lead to some back and neck problems when he’s older.
My thought was that he was insufficiently defended against thieves.

Read a real book at bedtime. No blue wave light. Just not a hardback. Those can bruise your nose when you fall asleep reading. :-)
@DBQ - A real book! So old-fashioned!

verified sighting of a hipster doofus, in the wild.
The hipster doofus is more into his screen than the guy indoors.

Is that snow on the ground?
I've heard they have long, cold winters in Chicago.
50 years ago today, I watched Cale Yarborough win the Firecracker 400 race at Daytona.
How many Americans can correctly pronounce that name today? English is like a code for natives.
"Get out there... into the world..."
So art should make us uncomfortable, but we don't actually have to go see any, like, in museums and stuff?
Comforting to know.

We remember the July 4th's of 1776 and of 1863.

Why is AquaMan's shirt inside-out, and what brand are those garish designer shoes?
Better to look at any screen than a Nissan Juke.
Shoes are Cavalli.

Is this where I mention that I don't own a cellphone and never have? (or a pager..remember them?)
Perhaps the 2nd fellow is looking at his picture on this blog.
That Sausage Fest food truck is a little too close to the Kate-Jan van. I sense a violation of Kate-Jan.

Via Rantburg.
”almost no-one is pointing out the more obvious motive for the resignation.”
I have no respect for Brian Ross, but I don’t see why he would be in hot water over this. It’s the job of journalists to get information, isn’t it?

It helps if it is true and it not supposed to be a military secret.
One of the most serious errors of the Nixon administration was to go after the Pentagon Papers case with such intensity.
I have read it was Kissinger's idea but it hurt Nixon badly with the people.
The Democrats were happy to trash hm for trying to protect their secrets.
He's about to get hit by a TV!
