In China, painted lanes on the sidewalk for pedestrians who stare at their cell phones.

The lanes are painted with messages like "Path for the special use of the heads-down tribe" and “Please don’t look down for the rest of your life," the NYT reports.

Roads near the "Tower of London" and other touristy London places used to have the following words painted near the cross-walk:

Look Left.

Because 'muricans were always getting killed by looking right, then crossing the street. I wonder if they've painted those over.

Sigh. The NYT's "head-down tribe" is so 2015.

I installed several tall steel poles in the middle of the sidewalk in front of my house for the same reason. Couldn't afford to also get signs to attach to them but they haven't seemed necessary.

In London they now paint "OI!" at crosswalks.

China's fastest is 60% slower, so they just use three of them and win anyway. Their models only cost $9.99 each, so alhought they break every hour, you can throw them out and buy new ones all day long.

It must sound wittier in Chinese. Often get a laugh at some of the vendor names selling knock-off tech accessories on Amazon.

Do they have special lanes for drivers who always squint?

Nope. Still there, all over London.

Who painted the lanes?

Churchill was nearly killed in NYC looking the wrong way; having spent a lot of work time in the UK, I have a swivel neck when crossing the street at home.
