At the Curved Path Café...

... you can talk about whatever you like.

And please think of using the Althouse Portal to Amazon. For example, here's a pistachio nut opener. And did you know that it's best to use salt flakes on your grilled fish? And may I recommend fullreach sunscreen spray? Just some summer ideas!

Buy Bill Clinton’s new book. He needs the money to pay David Kendall or otherwise Hillary’s deleted emails go public. A lawyer can’t commit a crime nor can he use the attorney-client privilege to conceal a crime.

Just put in another order via the Althouse Amazon Portal. FWIW back when my accountant was doing our taxes I had to tote up all our online purchases and determine the "use" tax we paid to the Commonwealth of Virginia for doing ... what, precisely. It came to almost $1900, nearly all purchased from Amazon and nearly all of that via the Althouse Portal. Hope you and Meade had a nice dinner on the your earnings.

But, David, no. The Clinton crime family can do without royalties from me.

Big Mike ayon kay ...

And Althouse, are you sure that's a curved path and not a fork in the road? Because as Yogi Berra famously said, when you come to a fork in the road, you should take it.

Ann Althouse ayon kay ...

Thanks, Big Mike.

Yeah, it is a fork. Hard to see.

Can we talk about the Atlanta Fed's projection of Q2 4.5% economic growth?

Might it be 5%?

The last Munchkin has died. But Baby Peggy is still alive! She was a huge star briefly in *silent movies*!

Big Mike ayon kay ...

@Birkel, I read 4.8%

Birkel: "Can we talk about the Atlanta Fed's projection of Q2 4.5% economic growth?"

No, because it will literally make LLR Chuck curl up in a ball and cry as he plots his next rumor-mongering attack against a child.

Big Mike,
I have seen 4.8% too. But the projection varies a bit.

Also, slightly misstating things every so often gets people to comment back. It's a Trumpian thing.

@Birkel, I have read that we now have more job openings than applicants. I am starting to get worried that the economy is too strong, if there is such a thing. And I am sure that there is.

Bay Area Guy ayon kay ...

If it's 4.8% growth, GOP retains House, no impeachment, life is good.

Gretchen Carlson, chairwoman of the Miss America board of directors, has dispensed with the good looks portion of the aforementioned Miss America contest.

So the question is, how did Ms. Carlson rise to the top? *cough*

"Because as Yogi Berra famously said, when you come to a fork in the road, you should take it."

I agree. Forks are expensive these days.

rcocean ayon kay ...

The only answer to an overheated economy is more immigration or maybe some tax cuts.

Per Chamber of Commerce.

American people don't want Amnesty. Trump won opposing Amnesty.

So, of course, Republicans in House are trying to pass Amnesty.

Its almost like they're being bribed by wealthy donors or something.

Nah, that's unpossible.

Bill and Hillary never saw a fork they didn't take.

Stupidity squared. Rudy Giuliani can't keep his big fat mouth shut:

"TEL AVIV—President Donald Trump’s lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, said North Korean leader Kim Jong Un got “on his hands and knees and begged” for their summit to be held after Mr. Trump canceled it last month."

'...Speaking at an investment conference in Israel hosted by the “Globes” newspaper, Mr. Giuliani said Mr. Trump canceled the summit last month because senior North Korean officials insulted top Trump administration officials.'

"...After Mr. Trump canceled the meeting, Mr. Giuliani said: “Well, Kim Jong Un got back on his hands and knees and begged for it, which is exactly the position you want to put him in.”

A man who answered the phone at North Korea’s United Nations office said no one was available to comment.'

I'm fond of places like Bury St. Edmunds, Ipswich and Ely. Smaller cities not so touristy. I spent about half my life growing up living in East Anglia (The bulge pointing towards the mainland) and love what it used to be.

Happy birthday to the Dakota Access Pipeline, which just completed one year of operation. Safety record has been exemplary, with fewer than 4 barrels of crude lost to spills (more like drips) versus 61 million barrels transported.

Ralph L ayon kay ...

Blenheim Palace and Castle Howard for their exterior and park, Syon House for the Adam interior.
Stonehenge was a massive disappointment. The road is too close, the fence is too far, the crowd is too big. I don't think we bothered to park.

Jersey Fled ayon kay ...

Further to my Dakota Access Pipeline post, 250 truckloads of trash were removed from the protester's encampment when they departed vs. 4 barrels of crude lost to leaks in the first year of operation.

Careful with that if you're posting from the UK.

Publicly extolling children with rosy-red cheeks might get you done for "incitement to racial hatred" these days.

I was lucky enough to see it when you could touch the stones.

We were walking in a seedy part of SoHo (looking for a werewolf) and on the next corner was a big marquee saying "Daisy Pulls It Off!" around a neon girl cracking a whip. I thought it was a strip joint, but we found out later it was a 20's musical revival.

Birkel ayon kay ...

I suggest you see any monuments and statues before they tear them down, as Freeman Hunt has advocated here in the US of A.

Saw it for the first time in the 70's. The last time I was in the UK was Christmas 1983.

Looks like you can still go inside the Stonehenge circle with Stone Circle access, but you can't touch the stones.

"Stone Circle access is priced at £38.50 for adults (18+) and £23.10 for children aged 5-17."

Pricier than most of the museums. Must be for the expensive upkeep of the stones.
