2 lions, 2 tigers, a jaguar, and a bear escaped from their zoo enclosures in Germany today.

"Residents in surrounding areas were told to stay indoors until all animals were accounted for," the NYT reports.
It was not immediately clear how or when exactly the animals escaped, but heavy thunderstorms overnight had resulted in bad flooding across the zoo, which is on a riverbank. Some animals might have been swept from their enclosures.
All the animals were eventually found, and only the bear was shot dead. The cats all got tranquilized and returned to their rightful imprisonment. But some Germans were scared enough to self-imprison within their enclosures for a brief while.

Just by coincidence, yesterday, I watched this clip of Talking Heads doing "Animals," a song with lyrics that make me laugh, because stray, unserious paranoia is funny:

Animals think
They understand
Trusting them
A big mistake!
Animals want
To change my life
I will ignore
Animals' advice!...
I know the animals
Are laughing at us
Don't even know
What a joke is
I won't follow
Animals' advice
I don't care
If they're laughing at us
If you're going to be laughed at, you're going to want it to be by entities who know what a joke is, right?

Makes me think of the fishing trip in Cuckoo's Nest. Liberty can be exhilarating but the consequences are sometimes sobering.

We do such cruel shit to animals in the name of entertainment. Zoos are sick.

Large Cats hate living in small spaces. It's maddening for them.

Reminds me of that cute story about the lion, tiger, and bear friends from a few years back. Sadly, I heard the lion passed away like a year ago or something.

Yeah, zoos suck.

"Residents in surrounding areas were told to stay indoors until all animals were accounted for," the NYT reports, referring to both the MS-13 gang members residing in Berlin and the young Muslim males who have driven up the incidences of rape against German women.

There has to be a German word for that.

Seargent Schultz, who was on duty at the time, said he knew nothing of the secret network of tunnels and trapdoors found after the Great Escape.

The honor-system zoos are the best.

We have two cats that live in the parking lot where I work. They are well-fed by people who take their breaks and lunch outside. This morning, as I walked to the front door, I saw one of the cats lying next to the door, and a large yellow grasshopper was also in the doorway, maybe a foot away from the cat. It showed how well-fed the cat is that he wasn't even considering a grasshopper snack. I can't say that I blamed him. I suspect they taste pretty nasty. I left the little tableau behind me as I headed through the door.

I hate macho men with guns who shoot animals dead. I hate macho women, too, who emulate ugly men. Having to live in a cage forever is bad enough. Poor bear! I love bears; humans suck. It also sucks to be Gary Coleman trapped on Avenue Q for eternity. Poor Gary!

LONDON STREETS OF RAGE: Terrifying 'zombie-killer' knife attack in broad daylight...

It's 'zombie-killer' attack because some guy in some zombie movie had a similar knife. AFAIK, no giant rats were harmed in this fake news.

My brain was also expecting "walked into a bar" after that.

I was walking through an almost empty St. Louis zoo one bitter winter morning. A motionless snow leopard stood stretched upon his hind legs, his paws resting on the rim of his pit, peering intently through the steel fence bars that surrounded it. A pair of antelopes in their own fenced enclosure grazed quietly just a few feet away across the path. Antelopes! So close and yet so far! He could see them. He could smell them. He licked his chops. You could tell that he could almost taste that sweet, sweet antelope flesh.

But he could not hunt, the poor bastard. No, I don't much like zoos, either.

Worse was the lowland gorilla I saw years ago at the Denver zoo. He was the only gorilla there - so social an animal as that! - and the poor dude was obviously severely depressed. I don't get the point.

COEXIST is peculiar, missing Ps, As, Ls, and Ss, and notably selective and exemptive.

That's funny. I listened to The Talking Heads "Animals" yesterday too. Great minds think alike! Cheers.

I loved Drudge's header - "Lions, tigers, jaguar break from cages at German zoo; Bear shot dead" Made it sound like a gangland murder.

Fear of Music was Talking Heads best album in my opinion.

Kinky Friedman had a few thoughts on the matter in his song The Wild Man of Borneo.

The best line is in the chorus; "They come to see what they want to see, but they never come to know. . ."

That's a perfect description of partisans on both the left and the right. The ol Kinkster was and is quite philosopher.

Those critters should be herded into Germany's no-go zones occupied by Islamist critters.

This is one reason there should be no zoos. If people want to see dangerous animals, they can go on safari
