How I know Meade is on the roof.

I get a text like this...

... and I'm thinking nice... hey, wait a minute!!!

He could be flying a drone with a camera.

My sister's husband, roughly Meade's age, was on his roof fixing something, and the next thing he knew he was waking up two weeks later in an ICU hundreds of miles away. A month later he was walking and the doctors pronounced it miraculous.

There's an old joke that ends,
"So, how's Grandma?"
"She's up on the roof."

Meade is on drugs again?

"I'm a Golden God!"

He is 20 years younger than I am.

I should probably have added that my brother-in-law fell from the roof of a detached garage like the ones in the photo, rather than from the roof of the house itself.

The goat's on the roof. That is a familiar site on grass roofed mountain houses.

Gravity. It's not just a good idea, it's the LAW.

Reindeer droppings.

Romney's dog was on the roof, too.

Al in all, a better fate than Obama's childhood dog.

Unless that horizontal tree limb in the photo is balanced by others on that tree, you might consider getting it trimmed before it snaps. Looks ominous.

I seem to recall about a year ago there was a story about a golden retriever who gained internet fame for sitting out on a roof.

I admire Meade's work ethic, but this is nuts for a man his age. I have a non-existent fear of heights, and at my age (51) I wouldn't work on the roof. This is mainly because my family would excoriate me for doing so, but it is also my own recognition that my balance isn't what it was even ten years ago.

I had a family member in the ICU at Vanderbilt a few years back, during the days in the waiting room I met the families of three men 50 or older who were in the unit from falls doing routine home-maintenance work on ladders, roofs, and such. Most of the falls weren't even from heights more than 10 feet.

Moss on an unrolled limb.

I had many of my large lower limbs chopped off last week to the tune of $2500. One was pushing down the neighbor's power line, and two were hanging on the main telephone line for half the town. AT&T wouldn't trim it unless the line came down (could not reach anyone local who would have seen the danger). Wish I could bill someone for that part of the work.

At least he's not back in the crawl space.

Per family lore, my Grandmother came home from work and saw my Grandfather was on the roof. He had a stroke and had been partially paralyzed, and I don't think was supposed to be walking again. My Aunt's comment was this was a sign he was improving. Same thing later on when he fell off a bike chasing his dogs...

Slip, slide and away..

Remember its always easier to get down than it is to get up.

Tragedy is when you get a bad haircut.

Comedy is when your neighbor falls off his roof.

As Harry Callahan said, "A man's got to know his limitations." I'm 56 & I still use an 28 ft extension ladder to work on my roof & gutters. That said, I also hit the gym 2-3 times a week, ride my bicycle & go for walks/hikes on a regular basis. I'm far from having washboard abs, but my balance is pretty good. YMMV.

glenn ayon kay ...

Nobody likes to be told this but when you reach a certain age you don’t go on the roof any more. You hire people.

More fake news from NBC. https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/donald-trump/feds-tapped-trump-lawyer-michael-cohen-s-phones-n871011

Giuliani called this, saying he didn’t believe it because tapping a lawyer is extraordinary. Cue the talking heads to defend NBC ... but Rudy called it.

A woman says Tom Brokaw made a pass at her. 50 years ago. WTF.

I have a 24' extension ladder I use for roof & gutter work. But it is so frikkin' unwieldy I hire a kid to help me move it around. If it gets away from you, it can easily destroy a $400 window.

Good thing he had the phone. An acquaintance was on his roof when the.wind blew his ladder down. No one was home and the neighbors were gone. With no phone he could get no help and was up there a few hours.

I know a youngish man, in his 40's, who fell off his roof last fall. He's still dealing with the complications. Currently, they're trying to save his leg.

You. A man of [our] age.

Reminds me. I need to clean off the roof.

So are the gutters clean now?

AllenS ayon kay ...

I put a steel roof on my 2 story house with a 40º pitch and 2 valleys with a large dormer when I was 64. I'm not going to lie, it kicked my ass. After securing each panel to the roof, I'd have to climb down a series of roof ladders that I built, secure another panel to the wire and rope combo, climb back up, grab the rope and drag the panel up a 20 foot ladder leaning against the house. Did I tell you that it kicked my ass?

AllenS, are you a dolt? Was no help available just to hook on each new piece? The round trip must have been half the battle! You could have paid some boy $10 an hour just to sit there and attach each panel when you lowered the rope.
