Why male faculty should object to being called by their first names.

Lots of faculty in my department have things posted on their office doors. Today, I posted this, in response to, over the course of this semester, being called: Shannon, SHARON & today, Mrs. McGregor pic.twitter.com/vt7ShyZFXD

an important note to male profs: allowing students to address you by your first name makes ME the "other" who asks for my well-earned respect.
Be a feminist ally: address all colleagues by their title(s) in front of students & ask students to address you the same way.

In my 30+ years of teaching law students, I think a student called me by my first name once or twice. It's not something I ever talked about, what to call me. I don't particularly know what the other professors did, but it was never an issue for me.
