"They did exactly what they should have done, which was treat me like anybody else... Next time, I’ll be more observant about getting stuff out of my briefcase."

Haley Barbour, the ex-Governor of Mississippi, goes to the airport with a handgun in his briefcase. Gets arrested.

When working in Manila I kept a revolver in my briefcase.
I was always taking taxis home very late.

I can see how Barbour overlooked it.

Trying to imagine Sheila Jackson Lee in those circumstances.

He is a class act. Did a great job in Mississippi.

Sounds like he handled it well.

The progressive allegations of diversity.... No, wait, it's just Barbour. What's your color?

I knew a Lt Col who was stuck in line trying to get on an AF Base while they were doing a 100% dog sniff test and suddenly realized he had a loaded .45 in his glovebox. He had visions of his career suddenly ending, but when the K9 got to his open window the dog lunged in and took his lunch consisting of three taco supremes from Taco Bell. The security forces guy got very rattled, he was very relieved when my friend told him no harm, he had to go to a weigh in next week anyway...

I have a CCW permit for 37 states, by not the one 10 minutes from my front porch. As a result, I never carry. Too risky.

As an aside, I have a driver's license in one state, but can drive anywhere.

Things like this happen. I keep a multitool with a decent-sized knife in my messenger bag. Not that long after 9/11 I went to the airport with the bag as my carry-on and forgot to leave the Leatherman at home. I was pretty upset at losing a $40 tool, but at least I didn't get arrested.

I live near BWI. The local news always makes a big deal about people trying to get a gun through security. They always say how many have tried. They never say if any of these people represent actual threats to the flying public. That makes me think that they aren't.

Classy response. There's not Democrat politician fit to lick his shoes clean after he's walked through a cow pasture.

A politician accepting responsibility? What's the world coming to?

Big Mike ayon kay ...

He’s a Republican, Joe. Deal with it. 😉

Quite honestly, it would be better to set the TSA to monitoring entrance and egress from all public housing.

Back in the late 1980s airport security stations had those little signs that warned you not to make jokes about bombs. My wife was going through, with me following. When her bag arrived after passing through the machine, she said, "They didn't even see the bomb in there." I instantly cringed, because I knew the x-ray guy had heard her. And he picked up his phone. We walked away and I told her, "We are going to get stopped. Don't be rude. Apologize. Pray you are not arrested."

She thought I was crazy but 10 seconds later an airport cop asks us to walk back to security. They went through her bag very, very thoroughly and we were both wanded twice. She was rather sternly instructed not to make jokes. I could tell she thought it was all stupid and was itching to say so, so I was giving her the "keep your mouth shut" glare. Finally they let us pass on to the gate. This was Fargo, and perhaps they felt forgiving.

I told her people had been arrested for cute little jokes like that (and had, about a month before in El Paso). She never really got it. Had that happened 15 years later, after 9/11, well, a bail bondsman would have been involved.

My favorite thing since the start of 1918. Haley: Thanks for doing right. I hope that your kids and grand-kids appreciate it for their own kids' and grand-kids' sakes.
