The pictures show what water dogs live for (along with an occasional duck to retrieve or pheasant to flush).

We had another spectacular "sky on fire" sunset in the La Crosse area this evening. This year we've had a nice departure from the normally gloomy late fall days.

Is this thread supposed to be about dogs? Well here’s one.

Hahahaha, I called it several days ago when I said it was probably Farenthold on the Republican side! Where is Drago?

https://www.politico.com/story/2017/12/01/blake-farenthold-taxpayer-funds-sexual-harassment-274458

“Rep. Blake Farenthold used taxpayer money to settle a sexual harassment claim brought by his former spokesman — the only known sitting member of Congress to have used a little-known congressional account to pay an accuser, people familiar with the matter told POLITICO.

Lauren Greene, the Texas Republican’s former communications director, sued her boss in December 2014 over allegations of gender discrimination, sexual harassment and creating a hostile work environment.

Greene said another Farenthold aide told her the lawmaker said he had “sexual fantasies” and “wet dreams” about Greene. She also claimed that Farenthold “regularly drank to excess” and told her in February 2014 that he was “estranged from his wife and had not had sex with her in years.”

When she complained about comments Farenthold and a male staffer made to her, Greene said the congressman improperly fired her. She filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court in the District of Columbia, but the case was later dropped after both parties reached a private settlement.”

He should resign. Same as Franken, same as Conyers. If he used his position to sexually harass an employee. He definitely should not run again. Same as Barton. I don't think that if you send an unsolicited dick pic, it's revenge porn if she shares it. If she asked him to send it, that's another matter, but I supposed we would have seen that text from Barton. I think that you should expect her to share it if you are going to send it, and the kind of guys who usually send these pics unsolicited, are generally hoping that she shares it, I am guessing.

Speaking of new stories today about Congressmen:

The Congressional Office of Compliance paid out just under $100,000 in taxpayer funds to two male staffers to settle sexual harassment claims against disgraced former Democratic New York Rep. Eric Massa, according to a new report.

If your are keeping score. And if you plan to keep score, you better get your abacus ready!

The House Ethics Committee signaled Friday it has begun a sweeping probe into misconduct of lawmakers and staff that resulted in taxpayer-funded settlements. The 10-member bipartisan panel ordered the Office of Compliance to turn over "all records... related to any claims of sexual harassment, discrimination, retaliation or any other [prohibited] employment practice," by House lawmakers or congressional staff. The probe is a response to allegations of sexual misconduct by lawmakers, both public and anonymous, and a pledge by House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., to conduct a "comprehensive" review of taxpayer-funded payouts for workplace misdeeds.

I see the leaks have already begun. But it better all be public in the end.

Newsweek is of course on the important stories!

Sweet Jesus, Donald Trump doesn´t even understand the Bible´s most important story! At Thursday night´s annual Christmas tree lighting at the White House, the president recounted the birth of Jesus by saying it "begins 2,000 years ago with a mother, a father, their baby son." Their baby? Um, care to take a paternity test?

Wow! Fucking bastard Trump! This tears it! Never going to vote for him! Rather have an abortion loving Democrat!

I always figured that the song "What Child is This" was told from the point of view of Joseph.

A week or so ago I arrived at the bar to find a few of the regulars talking about the movie 'Pulp Fiction.' And it is a fun movie to talk about in a bar, although I haven't seen it in fifteen years or so. Maybe twenty. But I remember parts. You don't forget the gimp.

The older black man says he just watched it again: he has a VHS copy. People tell him he should get a DVD or BluRay of it, but he says he has already bought it once, that's enough.

Everyone agrees that Samuel L. Jackson is a bad-ass. Indeed: in the movie he does have a wallet that says 'Bad Mother Fucker', so that is added as proof, amongst other things. In the movie the hitman played by Jackson quotes the Bible, which everyone agrees is bad-ass. Which is funny, because most of them could care less about the Bible. Context, I guess.

Because I can be an asshole, I agree that Jackson is bad-ass, but he is not the biggest bad-ass in the movie. What the hell am I talking about? is pretty much the general response.

I point out that, when Travolta and Jackson run into trouble, they need to go see Harvey Keitel to save them: thus Harvey is the bigger bad-ass.

That's different, they say. Keitel is a boss, they agree, but Jackson is the bigger bad-ass. To which I reply that, when they need to clean the bloody car, Keitel makes Travolta and Jackson do it. Keitel is in charge: he is the bigger bad-ass.

There are more murmurs of discontent. So I push it a bit further. When it is time for Travolta and Jackson to be cleaned up after their bloody work it is Keitel who makes them undress, and then hoses them off. I repeat for effect: he makes them take off their clothes in the backyard, and he sprays his hose all over them. The innuendo of hose is not lost on the bar patrons: they get innuendo.

You can't be the biggest bad-ass if another man forces you to strip and then sprays his hose on you. Keitel sprayed his hose all over Samuel L. Jackson. There is grumbling, but I am not refuted. A few people agree that Harvey is a pretty good bad-ass: 'The Bad Lieutenant' is brought up as further evidence. The guy played 'Judas', for fuck's sake: of course he is bad-ass.

I then play "Jesus Christ Superstar" on the jukebox. The song is sung from the perspective of Judas. I consider it a kind of Victory Lap.

Indeed. It is Tarantino, bad-assing up Ezekiel 25:17.

But it plays as 'The Bible', and -- as I said: "Which is funny, because most of them could care less about the Bible."

It's like that quote that went around the internet, supposedly by Thomas Jefferson. Where he said "The care of human life and happiness, and not their destruction, is the first and only object of good government. And hot slave bitches. Yo."

While the Catholic Encyclopedia refers to St. Joseph as the foster father of Jesus, let me tell you, as someone who went through 8 years of Christmas plays & Advent preps in Catholic school, Joseph is very commonly referred to as Jesus' "father" in "street-level" Catholic devotion.

I imagine that President Trump bounces quite a bit of his attempts at getting Christian details right off of Melania, who apparently is still a believing Roman Catholic. How Catholic is she? I mean, who the hell knows? But, it's highly unlikely that she's any less Catholic than John F. & Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy, & somehow those two always got to take credit. Rumors that JFK had a shrine to Mary Magdalene in the WH are apocryphal.

Dueling miracles between the incarnation and the resurrection gives a big win to the incarnation. Without that miracle, none of the Gospel can follow. Sure Father God resurrected Jesus and we go along for the ride, but the substitutionary cross events on Good Friday would mean nothing for us if Jesus was not God incarnate himself too. ( see, Apostles Creed that nailed down this against potential heresy).

Etienne - Michael Savage, who is a rich prosperous person but a wise person (who makes mistakes, as he would admit) recently stated that we should honor our parents because without them we would never have been born, and we should be thankful to the Lord that we were born: that is the honor which we owe to our parents (Savage was right about that): but he also said we should not worship our parents, that would be wrong (Savage was right about that, too).

It is possible that all of us - parents, children, friends, fellow soldiers, acquaintances - knew each other, back in the day before any us were born, and it is possible we used to talk about our hopes that we would not be selfish parents when we had the opportunity to be parents in this world, that we used to talk about how we would not be children who grew up without wondering if we should, after all, have some more gratitude in our hearts ( remembering those conversations before any of us - parents or children - were born); it is possible that every friend you have ever had was someone you knew before you were born, in those days when we talked excitedly about the days when we would be friends in this world after we forgot the world (sadly, we forgot) before this world: and who cannot imagine - since we all know we may die one day - what it is like to be a soldier who fights and faces the enemy knowing that he is doing so with his fellow soldiers: and who has not had a dream, one night or another in the past, where we recognized that some person who was just an acquaintance in this waking world was actually someone who would have given up his or her life to keep us from harm, and who told us that, before we were born, in those long-ago forgotten days?

Or maybe I do not know what I am talking about....let's start over. Abraham was an ancestor, but he was just a man. Jerusalem is a beautiful city, but it is just a city. Here is what I am trying to say: Christmas is a better holiday than Easter ( a good holiday, but, unlike Christmas, a historically contingent holiday....think about it). Abraham was a sinner, married to a sinful wife: Christmas was a beautiful surprise: a divine child born to a sinless mother. Abraham and Jerusalem are beautiful words, but worldly words: Christmas is a divine word. Thanks for reading.

Jerusalem is a beautiful city. Abraham was someone we should all respect. But Jerusalem, Abraham, Easter: all are, even at their best, no better than they would be in the best of fallen worlds. Christmas would be divine in any world, fallen or not. Merry Christmas!!!

Unknown said...

Christmas is the only happy major holiday. Easter is a nice holiday, but for God's sake, how happy can anyone be three days after the best friend they ever had in the world has been tortured to death? No matter how good the news of the next couple of days was? And who wants to remember, on the anniversary of such a holiday, how they felt three days after their friend was killed? We are just human, after all.

"We’ve seen Republicans pull this before: During Bill Clinton’s first year as president, for instance, Democrats enacted a major deficit reduction package without any support from conservatives. And while many Democrats in Congress lost their jobs as a result, their leadership helped produce a budget surplus several later.

When George W. Bush became president, Republicans authorized a series of massive tax cuts that ballooned the federal deficit and worsened income equality, and passed a prescription drug bill despite the fact that it carried a $400 billion price tag for which no one paid. These measures — combined with the administration’s continued spending on wars — helped squander the budget surplus produced under Clinton."

While Jesus was still talking to the crowd, his mother and brothers stood outside, wanting to speak to him. Someone told him, “Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to speak to you.”

He replied to him, “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?” Pointing to his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.”
