Emails a reader, presumably from Paris. Here's the referenced pic, which I screen-grabbed minutes before Drudge bumped it to highlight the story in the previous post:
I don't know where or when that photograph was taken, but it has a great New Year's Eve look, and Melania perfectly embodies Trump's well-known taste for gold. I love the dress. Is the photograph (with that headline) "provocative"?

I opted for the last choice.
Insty has highlighted quotes from Bill Kristol and Bret Stephens, both fully agree with Trump's policies, but essentially wish Hillary was president.
Forgot one: “you mean there's a guy in the picture??”
Melania is awesome.
Voted: “I'm overjoyed that this guy is where he is and that it's so unsettling to people who are not me”, though I liked “I love it. He's happy. His wife is beautiful. And we're lucky to have him as President” too. Seems to be most of the voters so far more voting for those two choices. From the commenters here, I would have expected a more balanced vote. Seems to indicate, so far at least, that Ann has a fairly conservative, Trump supporting audience.
OT: I love Ted Cruz.
"From the commenters here, I would have expected a more balanced vote. Seems to indicate, so far at least, that Ann has a fairly conservative, Trump supporting audience."
Those who are aversive to Trump had to withdraw. They feel too upset to hang around in an environment where people do not recognize the horror they see. There's no diversity to be celebrated only poison to avoid getting contaminated with.
Seems to indicate, so far at least, that Ann has a fairly conservative, Trump supporting audience.
It's Sunday, and the Trump-Haters sleep in. They'll be along later.
Two poll options missing.
First: I hate him for exposing what fraudulent eunuchs my kind are.
Second: "I'll answer as soon as I get my lefty talking points Trump sycophants. I mean we are all not Trump sycophants. A lot of people out there are not Trump sycophants. You Trump sycophants are crazy! You have no mind of your own...own...own...own...own.......

I would enjoy seeing you elaborate on this in a post.

Makes sense. Mostly they probably don’t want to be laughed at as ninnies.
Interesting interaction with an inlaw over the holidays. She asked almost eagerly what I thought about Trump. I responded that I thought that he was doing well. And she immediately changed subjects. Our consensus was that she probably wanted to Trump bash, but was unprepared, or unwilling, to defend herself.
“Winning!”
Not clear from your response whether we are winning because of Trump, or you won with the first post. If the latter, let me remind you that you have an unfair advantage over the rest of us, knowing in advance (at least sometimes) what Ann is going to blog.
Humperdink,
I read that column insty linked - I can't comprehend how any conservative can say that the coarsening of public discourse is too steep a price to pay for what Trump has done - the horror of a Supreme Court packed by Hillary by itself is enough to be grateful Trump won.
A good and dear friend of ours, who is somewhat left of Bernie, was very upset because she had to be around people who were blatantly happy with Trump at a work related cocktail party. I was sorry she felt bad.
But she also over-heard some very remarkable rude remarks about Democrats ("Not all liars, but a good place to start your assumptions") which hurt her feelings, and I was sorry to hear that.

PS - "Conflicting edits" again.
As we near 200 votes, last two choices are running about 3/4 of total, with 2nd to last leadin the last by 3:2 ratio. And only maybe 10 naysayers out of the total.
I would say daring to be confident
http://www.atimes.com/article/trump-offers-daaring-program-restore-us-dominance/
Just a reminder -- this is the last day of 2017 that Hillary Clinton will not be president.
“PS - "Conflicting edits" again.”k
Got it too - maybe we both got rejected at the same time - except that you were able to add the postscript, so my guess is that your post conflicted with exhelodrvr1, any my post conflicted with yours.

Every one of these types of comments makes me smile and feel good.
Yep I chose the last one too as closest to my feelings. There's a Warren Buffett quote he applies to finance: Only when the tide goes out do you discover who has been swimming naked. Trump's tide has certainly exposed so many 'respected' lefties as complete twits.
In the United States we forget how much an attractive wife adds the appeal of her husband. I bet that photo of the Trumps plays well in Paris and Rome.
Harry and Rachel can suck it.
Tomorrow is the first day of the rest of your life that Hillary Clinton will not be President.
Who's Melania's date?
I feel subtle confidence seeing this confident and -- I hope -- competent man who is our President.
I am optimistic, though with a healthy dollop of wary.
Fascinating how he is training people to want to work with him - ex. embassy in Jerusalem, tax reform. Trump policy progress won't be held back by people not participating...they simply will not have any input, which ends up leaving their constituents with no voice at all, and diminishing their value as representatives.
"Of All the Blogs in the World, They Walk Into Mine."
I have this image of Althouse white-knuckling a generous slug of bourbon while grimacing in disgust.
Of all the Blogs... Mildly droll, but lacking something. It lacks the poetry of Rick's complaint. Blog is an ugly sound compared to gin joint. We need a new word for what Ann Althouse does. Blog seems inadequate.
Every day there's at least one café posting. Maybe that's what Althouse really is, a place like Rick's — a place for patriots and ne'er-do-wells, a place for those fleeing from oppression, a place for would-be oppressors to sing the Horst Wessel Lied, a place for the world-weary to be shocked, shocked that gambling is taking place, a place for whiney rats to vainly seek shelter. It's Althouse's Cafè Americaine. It's not a gin joint, it's a remarkatorium, a villa de vocable... Of all the locution locations in all the subnets in all the interwebs, they log into mine (Glug. Glug)
Everybody comes to Ann's.
Wow! Melania looks amazing.
Conflicting edits does't necessarily mean conflicting edits of the same post.
And for that matter doesn't mean conflicting edits at all, but is just a boilerplate something wrong page.
Great photo. Business is theater. So is politics.

As they say on TV, that assumes facts not in evidence.
"the coarsening of public discourse"
Oh for fuck's sake!
"Of all the Blogs... Mildly droll, but lacking something."
I was playing off the title of her earlier post.
But I agree: Althouse has grown well beyond what I would consider a blog.
Zeitgeist Analyst, perhaps.

Trophy First Lady. Don’t leave home without one.

More civility bullshit though one could argue Trump added to the coarse discourse lefties have been dishing out for years.
BJ Clinton looks at that picture with envy. "If only I had..."
I suspect Drudge chose and maybe cropped that picture because it leaves to the imagination where Melania's left hand meets Trump's body.
"TRUMP 2018: MUCH MORE TO COME!"
Indeed, heh.
The Devil is the one terrified of what a warring Trump has planned for his kingdom in 2018. DJT spent 2017 saving what he could save from Obama destruction. Now he is going on the attack. Semiper Fi.
Alfranken looks at that picture and wishes Melania was asleep.
Those who are aversive to Trump had to withdraw. They feel too upset to hang around in an environment where people do not recognize the horror they see
And that is really too bad as it makes the comments less "diverse" and less interesting. There is a way for people to disagree and try to persuade each other without becoming total assholes. Right and left can adhere to this. Some of our lefty commenters are reasonable and have the ability to make good points. Unfortunately, they seem to be drowned out by the vitriolic and unhinged.
No one wants an echo chamber. On the other hand no one want to be in the monkey house and watch the primates fling poo.
I found all of Althouse's answers to be either outright funny or at least humorous. I was of course (or possibly coarse) thinking along similar lines to EDH. It looks like Melania is giving her husband a hand-job.
I liked both of the bottom two choices, but like Bruce Hayden and others, I voted for I'm overjoyed that this guy is where he is and that it's so unsettling to people who are not me.
We spent the last eight years here in Northern VA being lectured by friends and neighbors about the perfection that was everything President Obama did, having any policy objection tagged as racist. The TDS here takes on an almost-physical aspect that's impossible to avoid or escape, but the last 11 months of wailing has been sweet music.
I like what President Trump has accomplished, policy-wise. Entertainment-wise, Trump: Season 1 has exceeded my expectations. I can't wait for Season 2.
These are the Lab Notes from the huge Psych Experiment we call the (first) Trump Administration.
Black, white, and gold. The lack of [color] diversity is appalling.
AllenS, I can’t wait to see Al’s expression when Ronan Farrow uses that line at his celeberty roast.
It's Sunday, and the Trump-Haters sleep in. They'll be along later.
Yes.I don't mind those who disagree. What we have, though, is a cluster of screaming lunatics.
A few are relatively sane and try to support the contrary opinion, like Inga.
Then there are a few nasty "turd in the punchbowl" types.
My choice in the poll was The "subtle confidence" one. He is growing on me.
What is amazing is the ignoring of momentous events like the rioting in Iran.
The news media that I see are all about trifles like the "Dossier" or the FBI reputation
One of the best things about 2018 will be that Trump has now had a year of learning on the job. He will make mistakes in the future, but they won't be rookie mistakes anymore. Meanwhile, he hasn't backed off of his M.O. of tweeting and baiting. I detested him as a candidate, but am thoroughly enjoying him as a president.
"Entertainment-wise, Trump: Season 1 has exceeded my expectations. "
That's how I feel. He certainly has the right enemies.
"Trump's well-known taste for gold"
Is it his taste or his eastern European wives' taste.
I voted for Trump, but I was surprised and a little uneasy when he won. There was the possibility that he'd turn out to be Jesse Ventura. Well, so far so good. He's had a successful first year, and his critics look increasingly fatuous.......Feminsts should rejoice. If Hillary had won, Harvey would be sleeping in the Lincoln bedroom and Matt Lauer would be giving NBC interns their big break or broke.......I think Melania is good looking and dresses with flair and distinction, but isn't that what professional models are supposed to do. This like a professional athlete hitting a home run at the company softball game. Still, you can't help but think that Trump has a happy life on a lot of levels.
You gain confidence when you are happy. When you are sad, you become bitter.
"They feel too upset to hang around in an environment where people do not recognize the horror they imagine." FIFY
"There was the possibility that he'd turn out to be Jesse Ventura. "
Jesse Ventura's employment history was a few B movies and wrestling.
Small difference in experience and results. Plus Minnesota, of course.
I admire Althouse for her ability to create polls with plenty of gradations of choices, i.e., Trump goes from being the devil to being a Godlike figure. I vote for 1) the devil. He, so Grinch-like, looted the Treasury at Christmas to give himself and other rich people massive tax cuts. The rich had already benefited from the surge in the stock market, so this theft of tax dollars to bulge the deficit to the tune off an 1.5 trillion additional shortfall is more obscene greed, which happens most often when the GOP is in power. In economics, one learns that there is no free lunch, so citizens now or in the future will have to pay for Trump's Great Train Robbery. Whether Trump can top his devil-may-care egregiousness in the next year, remains to be seen. I have no doubt that he and the GOP will try.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Great_Train_Robbery_(1903_film)
Trump might fire some dead weight in our federal government. The Horror!
I chose the next to last answer because of the part about us being lucky to have him. So far, in his first year he has shown good instincts for what works and what doesn’t, do given his background as not a politician, we are lucky. But we’ve been lucky in another way. What if Hillary Clinton had paid attention to her husband’s warning about finding ways to appeal to working class people, the sort of people who fix her plumbing or paint her house or reshingle her roof or collect her trash? What if she had tapped into Bill’s superb political instincts instead of Robbie Mook’s mathematical models? What if she skipped states she couldn’t win to make sure of Michigan and Wisconsin, and campaigned harder in Florida and Pennsylvania? What if she had sufficient empathy for people not to use the word “deplorable “ for people who disagreed with her policies? What if no one happened along to take a video of her collapsing on the street and being lobbed into her van like a sack of potatoes on 9/11/16? What if Podesta had a three digit IQ and knew not to fall for a simple phishing attack?
Luck doesn’t begin to describe it.
Those who are aversive to Trump had to withdraw. They feel too upset to hang around in an environment where people do not recognize the horror they see.
I disagree. They withdrew when the horror they thought they'd see didn't materialize.
If Trump had been a disaster or if the economy had tanked, they would be here gloating.
Still waiting for Trumpits first complaint about obama loading $10T in debt in just 8 years.
In Trumpits defense, history began anew this morning for the lefties.
Those who are aversive to Trump had to withdraw. They feel too upset to hang around in an environment where people do not recognize the horror they see.
This is something that really puzzles me. People who hate Trump seem to think that the reasons are self evident. They call him fascist or racist and expect the rest of us to understand why without giving any evidence. This week, the New England Journal of Medicine published an opinion piece suggesting he’s mentally ill. Most of the anti-Trump comments there assume that this is a self-evident truth. I simply can not see what they see in his public comments. It makes me think they are the ones with the mental illness.
I picked the subtle confidence one. He's exceeded my expectations. Some of the stuff he says makes me cringe and he has undoubtedly made some mistakes. I'm hopeful he will accomplish more in his second year. He strikes me as someone who learns from his mistakes. The whole tweeting thing is necessary to get his message out - one thing he got right is that business as usual won't work.
While Melania sizzles in a striking pose, the husband is taking out the trash. Nature's order. Gaia is pleased.
"I think Melania is good looking and dresses with flair and distinction, but isn't that what professional models are supposed to do"
Professional models wear what they are paid to wear, few exhibit good taste in their personal lives. Same goes for actors.
The whole tweeting thing is necessary to get his message out

Hillary's supporters started with the special place in hell if you don't vote for her. Influential people echoed the feeling. Following their lead left commenters attack not only Trump but anyone who voted for him. Any Trump voter is attacked a moron, hates America, racist, misogynist,Nazi etc. Trump voters push back because they are defending themselves.
Common theme with haters is always, Trump lies and bad things will happen, sometime in the future.
" Seems to indicate, so far at least, that Ann has a fairly conservative, Trump supporting audience."
Hillary Clinton is not President of the United States of America. For that I am grateful to Donald Trump.
"...so this theft of tax dollars to bulge the deficit to the tune off an 1.5 trillion additional shortfall..."
Lefties must not own mirrors; They possess no capacity for introspection.
Total Public Debt Outstanding:
01/20/2009 $10,626,877,048,913.08
01/20/2017 $19,947,304,555,212.49
Nearly doubling the debt from $10.6 trillion to $19.9 trillion, in eight years, but you're concerned with $1.5 trillion over ten years. Look within yourself, and let the guilt sink in.
Hillary's supporters started with the special place in hell if you don't vote for her.
@FullMoon, point of clarification, according to Madeline Albright the special place in Hell is reserved for "women who don’t help each other." My wife and I are atheists and don't believe in Hell, but she thought about how lefty women attacked Sarah Palin and Mia Love and Joni Ernst and other Republican women, and she was seriously incensed at the level of hypocrisy.
This week, the New England Journal of Medicine published an opinion piece suggesting he’s mentally ill.
The Journal has had a hard left editorial stance as long as I can remember.
The article emphasizes that the opinion is held by many psychiatrists and even refers to the disastrous folly of 1964 when the professional body opined that Goldwater was mentally incompetent to be president.
This sort of stuff tends to reenforce the impression held by many colleagues, let alone non-physicians, that psychiatrists are often on the wrong side of the treatment equation.
A surgery resident with me had a psychotic break in his first year or so of practice. There were several attempts to treat him and retain his professional career but the final episode involved the Chief of Psychiatry at UC, Irvine medical school who, as part of his treatment of his psychosis, enrolled him in the psych residency program.
Gregg went on the complete the residency and, I believe, became a member of the faculty.
More evidence.
Ann is operating a Salon, in the traditional French sense. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salon_(gathering)
As I recall, there were plenty of Learned Articles during his presidency about how insane LBJ was.
I'm glad Trump is president and Hillary is not.
I think my taxes are going up, but I like the tax bill. It make US corporations globally competitive and it mildly broadens that tax base and flattens tax rates. Flat tax rates result in more incentives (you get to keep more of the last dollar you earn).
It should be good for America.
I love Melania, so elegant and beautiful!
My poll would go up to eleven.
She's a beautiful woman wearing a beautiful dress.

"There's no diversity to be celebrated only poison to avoid getting contaminated with."
Is "dodging Hillary" a kind of straw man argument? it just dawned on me it could be while thinking about Obama's Iran this morning.
. This week, the New England Journal of Medicine published an opinion piece suggesting he’s mentally ill.
I was at a used book store yesterday and saw a book "Bush on the Couch" by Justin Frank, M.D.
"Insightful and accessible, courageous and controversial, "Bush on the Couch" sheds startling new light on George W. Bush's psyche and its impact on the way he governs, tackling head-on the question few seem willing to ask: Is our president psychologically fit to run the country?"
So it's got nothing to do with Trump. To the Left, all Republicans are Nazis, stupid and mentally ill.
The thought of Hillary in formal dress makes a good case for the burqa.
Shouldn't we abstain from praising dresses in the midst of #MeToo?
Or, i'm getting that wrong too.

Hey, you said it!
I wonder where the Trump Derangement Syndrome tag came from in this case. Matt Drudge chose and posted the picture. One of the Althouse readers mentions it to Ann in an email. Ann does a blog post, with an Althouse poll, and the poll results tend to indicate that the Althouse commentariat is approximately 137% in favor of Trump, and many are especially keen on the notion that as their hero, Trump is pissing off a large swath of the public.
And you give that a tag of "Trump Derangement Syndrome"?
I didn't see the involvement of one single Trump critic in the entire process.
Indeed; it is Trump Derangement Syndrome Derangement Syndrome.
My own vote was the last answer/option. I felt that that answer was in keeping with the Althouse commentariat. None of the other choices interested me in the slightest. The story, on its face, didn't interest me. It was boring.
But I do adore Althouse polls, for the simple reason that they are always a window into the psyche of the Althouse commentariat.
"But I do adore Althouse polls"
Sorry, but "adoring" is against the rules here.
@Amadeus48, check the numbers. There's a chance you'll be surprised.
@Chuck, just vote.
Did Media then pan FDR chats or wasn't it more like talking, writing points to use officially endorsed.
Ted Cruz was my first choice. But I don't think Ted would have had Trump's fortitude to withstand the media constant attacks and to go on the offensive.
Trump is like an afterthought fantasy pick, performing a la Tom Brady.
You know what Chuck hates most about golf? There's no room for comments on the scorecard.
I wonder whom is left for Melania to wear since so many of these idiot leftist designers won't work for her.

Meh, Althouse was just trying to trigger us Trump detractors, lol. Whatever floats her boat.
I like Ted Cruz, but if Cruz had been the candidate, Hillary would be POTUS.
"There's no diversity to be celebrated only poison to avoid getting contaminated with."
Althouse can be enjoyed without reading all the insulting and ignorant comments by clearly right-wing partisan hacks, who practically are squatting in her comments section. Althouse provides these deplorable Trump storm troopers with an outlet to express their vileness and pseudo-intellectual nonsense. By doing so, she keeps these stupid and confused trolls preoccupied, so they are less likely to throw a real Molotov cocktail. No doubt many lives have been saved because Althouse blog exists.
NeverTrumpism is highly correlated with self-importance and pretentiousness.

Indeed Trumpit, you are right. There are two that I can easily envision strapping on a suicide vest and walking into the DNC.

In economics, one learns that there is no free lunch, so citizens now or in the future will have to pay for Trump's Great Train Robbery.
One of the first things I learned in economics (and is still taught in the the most popular econ textbook) is people respond to incentives. As people always do they will alter their behavior as a result of the new tax bill yet that 1.5 trillion dollar shortfall is calculated based upon the assumption not a single human being will change their behavior as a result of the new law. IOW, the 1.5 trillion number is based upon a faulty assumption. It's fake news, anti-science.
Althouse provides these deplorable Trump storm troopers with an outlet to express their vileness and pseudo-intellectual nonsense. By doing so, she keeps these stupid and confused trolls preoccupied, so they are less likely to throw a real Molotov cocktail.
Projection: it's not just for movie theaters.
#MeToo or the so-called "reckoning" is over. It was a means to an end, and its purpose was served. We have returned to the status quo. At least until the next political leverage game.
By the way, what does the Joint Committee on Taxation have to say about how much less the wealthy will be paying under the new tax law?
According to the staff of the Joint Committee on Taxation, before the recent change in the tax law, taxpayers earning more than $1 million a year were scheduled to pay 19.3 percent of all federal taxes in 2019. What impact does the new tax law have on this percentage?
(a) It falls to 17.8 percent.
(b) It falls to 18.7 percent.
(c) It stays the same.
(d) It rises to 19.8 percent.
A quick quiz from Mankiw
Bruce Hayden, the Trump haters who remain here are too stupid and self unaware to realize they are laughed at as ninnies everyday. witness the dimmest commenter here, Inga, applauding the blatherings of Trumpit, who is clearly off his rocker. Trump has made them insane and it's quite enjoyable.
I am happy and delighted every single day that Hillary is not president. And Melania is absolutely stunning in that picture.
Big Mike
I believe in God, the proof is all around us. For example, the Hamas' top explosives commander accidentally blew himself up this weekend while making bombs. The Hand of God.

suicide vests? No, Inga that's the preferred method of your beloved Muslim terrorists. And of your fellow leftist who tried to murder congressmen on a baseball field and was applauded for having done so. once again you project the evil of your side onto conservatives.
I am glad we have Trump detractors here. One of the reasons I voted for him was that I believed he would be held to account and Hillary wouldn't.
I just wish the detractors were a little more in touch with reality. What would a sane person make of Trumpit's post at 12:08 and Inga'a endorsement at 12:12?
... "these deplorable Trump storm troopers"... "their vileness and pseudo-intellectual nonsense"..."these stupid and confused trolls" ... "less likely to throw a real Molotov cocktail"...
Feel better now? Not persuasive. Stark, raving crazy.
Melania Trump is indeed a professional beauty, and more than that. Trump chose his women fairly well, Ivana was a sharp cookie and very useful to him as a business associate.
Melania has the Jackie O coolness thing, plus far more sex appeal, and she was always more beautiful. She lacks the upper-class cachet though, to which one has to be born.
The pair are more or less the epitome of noveau-riche, a quality that has always annoyed the upper classes. Its always the same, there is a strong element of revulsion, based partly on the noveau being a threat to the establishment. Most noveau kowtow to establishment styles and mores to defuse the hostility. Trump does the opposite, which explains a lot about the hostility.
The Kennedys were just as noveau, its members were personally enormously more crass, even barbaric, than the Trumps, and old Joe's fortune was far less legitimately acquired, but the clan was very effective at buying PR, putting on airs, and legitimizing themselves as proper residents of the upper class. It was a remarkable achievement.

Is that original, Fabi? If so, well done. It may be an old golf joke but I’ve never heard it before and it’s both hilarious and a great comment on the current state of discourse.
1.5 trillion dollar shortfall is calculated based upon the assumption not a single human being will change their behavior
Yes. Also, there is a presumption of progressive (i.e. monotonic) asset inflation, immigration reform, regulatory monopolies, labor and environmental arbitrage, social justice adventures (e.g. wars with a pretext), quasi-scientific mandates, etc., that are first-order forcings of economic superheating and decadal economic climate change (e.g. recession), and even catastrophic anthropogenic economic climate change (e.g. depression). A functional market is organic and dynamic, capitalism is democratic, and should mitigate the most extreme outcomes while optimizing development. The question is what would happen during a transition, and if people would be willing to stay the course.
I don't believe a federal tax cut has ever resulted in a decrease of revenue to the government.
Melania Trump is a beautiful woman wearing a fantastic dress. That doesn't make me feel any better about the fact that her husband is president of the United States.

Not everyone is Laslo.
She has a terrific pair..of arms.
The only things that have reduced the % of revenues vis a vis GDP have been recessions where asset prices have fallen. US federal taxation is extremely progressive and is most affected by changes in upper class asset values and in incentives to recognize income.
This is well recognized elsewhere. The only way to significantly increase revenues as a % of GDP is by broadening the tax base, as the Europeans do, with higher payroll deductions and VATs.
Increasing marginal rates just incentivizes measures to avoid recognizing income, and suppresses asset price increases.
Mac: "For example, the Hamas' top explosives commander accidentally blew himself up this weekend while making bombs."

OMG it is the END OF THE WORLD. THE END OF THE UNIVERSE. LIFE AS WE KNOW IT IS DEAD!!!!! because some guy I don't especially like has been elected President for 4 years. OMG!!!! RUN. HIDE-------> APOCOLYPSE!!!
Geeze Louise. Get a grip.
It's Sunday, and the Trump-Haters sleep in. They'll be along later.
In the spirit of a new year, let me suggest that SOME of the anti-Trump crowd are regaining enough balance that a flattering Trump photo by itself does not instantly throw them into a tail spin of anger.
Anyway, Happy New Year to all.
Since about 1950 federal receipts have been less than 20% of GDP, regardless of tax rates. We have a spending problem, not a revenue problem.
Ingas beloved islamist supremacists actually slap suicide vests on children, including children with disabilities, and then remotely detonate them.
You will search in vain for even a single criticism by Inga of this practice.
All rhe while she screeches to let more of those animals into our country.
There are two that I can easily envision strapping on a suicide vest and walking into the DNC.
Inga, you are harmless and silly and I can easily imagine that you really believe this.
Trumpit is another matter and has real mental issues.
Cracker -- there's a bit about no comments on the card but it pertains to "a four is a four, is a four -- doesn't matter how you got it". Often used when a partner stripes the fairway, knocks it close and barely misses a birdie. It's the same four as a shank off the tee, two short, three skulled over the green, and a chip-in coming back.
What a beautiful first lady. Her smile is a welcome change from the snarlin' doberman from which we've become accustomed to seeing.
This comment quoted by some leftist person that I have never heard of exemplifies why the left's message is just not resonating.
"Maybe your Batman DVDs will comfort you when we’re wandering around in the ashen hellscape of whatever apocalypse Trump will bring down upon us."
I'd reckon this was Chuck Schumer or a handful of other lefties from the floor of the Senate during the tax bill debate.
Then again Schumer would have said 'Batman VCR tape'. That Mchael Keaton...
Melania looks very high maintenance.
The Kennedys were just as noveau, its members were personally enormously more crass, even barbaric, than the Trumps, and old Joe's fortune was far less legitimately acquired,
Surprising they are/were not all multi billionaires. All it takes is a million dollar loan from dad to make a fortune.Easy-peasy. According to anti Trumpers, anyway.
Melania looks very high maintenance.
That may or may not be true, but I do know this. Never own a Ferarri (or other luxury car) even if it was free, a gift, if you can't afford the cost of maintenance. Fortunately, it seems that Trump can afford that maintenance.
Blogger Inga said..."Indeed Trumpit, you are right. There are two that I can easily envision strapping on a suicide vest and walking into the DNC."
Says the woman who's fellow traveler actually attempted to assassinate several Republican congressman. For real.
There are two that I can easily envision strapping on a suicide vest and walking into the DNC.
Well, since the DNC rigged the nomination for Hillary, instead of somebody who could have beaten Trump, maybe that circle of potential bombers should be widened to include some Democrats.
Pic is from 2011, art event at NYC MMOA, Melania's dress is by Alexander McQueen.
I've been +Trump since announcement, and some days the only smile I can manage is the one I get knowing he is our President.
“Inga, you are harmless and silly and I can easily imagine that you really believe this.”
I have to ask, like Patterico did, “What happened to you?”
Inga, Patrick Frey who I have known for ten years, has a bad case of TDS, sort of like chuck. He seemed to be getting a bit better so I went back to his blog for a short while but left again.
This seems important to you. Why ?
If anyone reads that exchange, except you of course, I think they will see that Patrick is a little unhinged on Trump.
He lists things that he disagrees with as "lies" like so many of you fools do.
I don't think you do yourself any good by selectively quoting from some other blog to try to make me look bad.
Some day, maybe after the Democrat wipe out in next November's election, Patrick will admit that Trump is not the devil and we can talk again.
Happy New Year, Inga and I hope you feel better soon.
You always seem to be the one who goes for the nasty ad hominems, but so far you have not reached the levels of Ritmo.
"Never own a Ferarri (or other luxury car) even if it was free, a gift, if you can't afford the cost of maintenance."
It sounds like you have experience.
The Ferrari first major service, the last time I had occasion to know, was $10,000.
Inga said: "Indeed Trumpit, you are right. There are two (Althouse commenters) that I can easily envision strapping on a suicide vest and walking into the DNC."
This is an amazing comment. We have a Bernie supporter shooting up a ball field filled with Republicans. We have commie-pinko lib pummeling Rand Paul from behind.
Talk about projection. You should be ashamed of yourself.

You know what Chuck hates most about golf? There's no room for comments on the scorecard.
I figured he's the guy at home who sits on his couch watching golf and calling in to report rules infractions...not the ones that actually penalize the pros but the infractions he just knows in his heart of hearts the rules officials are completely wrong about.
God, that is so funny!
I am in on the fight going on at GolfWRX in the Tour Talk forum.
I am strongly against the USGA/PGA Tour's new rule which would require tournament officials to ignore persons who call in with valid Rules concerns/ questions. The great example being one of the finest amateur players and renowned Rules expert, David Eger's, call to a friend on the Masters' committee about Tiger Woods' incorrect drop on 15. Ever was 100% right. I love those stories. I love that whole debate. You guys should head over there to join it. I'll happily take you on, point by point.
“Happy New Year, Inga and I hope you feel better soon.”
Happy New Year Michael! Thanks, but I feel fine, however I’m worried about the mass delusion I see here.
"Never own a Ferarri (or other luxury car) even if it was free, a gift, if you can't afford the cost of maintenance."
If you can't afford it new, you can't afford it used.
“You should be ashamed of yourself.”
As should you folks, but I’m afaraid you’re too far gone.
#Sad
$10k repair? I hope they had top notch coffee iin the waiting area.
I'm pretty sure Melania's cosmetics are "the best".
But her taxpayer funded personal staff is smaller than the fab armed Michelle's.
Speaking of armed, saw a Jeep yesterday with a bumper sticker that proclaimed "Armed Liberal".
"As should you folks, but I’m afaraid you’re too far gone.
#Sad"
Inga, it's not funny.
"Armed Liberal"
Reminiscent of classical times, when individual dignity preceded class struggles to promote the top-heavy minority good.
Inga, the nastiness got so bad in the month or two before the election that I quit this blog, too.
You may not remember. I e-mailed Ann that I would probably read but not comment as the tone had become too toxic.
Some other commenters (not you, of course,) asked me to come back and I did but restricted my comments.
The insanity that resulted from the election result is being analyzed in places.
Michael Barone, a fairly neutral political scientist has had a try.
The national security strategy has a tough enough approach to Russia to disabuse all but the most dogmatic believers of the notion that Trump is Russian President Vladimir Putin’s Manchurian candidate. It is sharply critical of some actions by President Xi Jinping's China. It drops former President George W. Bush’s earnest promotion of democracy in the Middle East and former President Barack Obama’s gauzy faith that Iran will abandon its nuclear weapons program and become a normal constructive power in the region.
On the contrary, Trump sees Iran as a clear enemy and Israel as a strong friend, and he looks with favor on the de facto, publicly unacknowledged alliance of Israel, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and other Arab states. Left on the back burner are the long moribund Israel-Palestinian negotiations, once considered the key to solving every regional problem.
The insanity of the left seems, if you are any indicator, to be as bad as ever.
I just hope you and the rest of the left eventually come to terms with losing an election.
Your delusional "resistance," even by would be conservatives, is not good for the country.
“Inga, it's not funny.”
Yes, it’s not funny, I’m serious.

“This is an amazing comment. We have a Bernie supporter shooting up a ball field filled with Republicans. We have commie-pinko lib pummeling Rand Paul from behind.”
Indeed this is an amazing comment. We have a Trump supporter, a Neo Nazi who ran down, an innocent young woman, killed her while she was peacefully protesting in the street.
We have a Neo Nazi Trump supporter, a young man who murdered his girlfriends parents
because they wouldn’t allow her to go out with a Neo Nazi.
Inga, you're the one joking about political violence. Just stop it.
What I find interesting about your comment(s) Inga is that everything you accuse conservatives/R's of doing, you and your side does in spades.
>Hate? Look at the comments directed at Trump, his spouse, and his kids.
>Fascist? Every R presidential candidate in recent memory has been labelled that.
>Anti-woman? Check your sexual harassment scorecard. Don't forget your side
looking past the former Rapist-in-Chief. Or Meryl Streep covering for Old Harv.
>Equal pay? Did not happen in the Obama White house.
You're in denial.
In a kill-zone set up by the peaceful protestors, no less. But, for some reason, he did not progress to open an abortion field. Also telling, is that the peaceful protesters of diversitists and Pro-Choicers were scheduled to coincide with the government-approved assembly.
The National Socialists would not have stopped with just one. They were diversitists who denied individual dignity and Pro-Choicers who denied lives deemed unworthy. They were Occupiers, anti-fascist, and anti-communist (there can be only one).
“Inga, you're the one joking about political violence. Just stop it.”
Again, I’m not joking, I’m expressing concern.

The Althouse "joint" has ALWAYS had its resident zeitgeist analyst. You just noticed?
Indeed this is an amazing comment. We have a Trump supporter, a Neo Nazi who ran down, an innocent young woman, killed her while she was peacefully protesting in the street.
You have an interesting definition of "peaceful." Heather Heyer was working for a communist front organization (so much for "innocent") and involved in a protest that went from despicable but nonviolent when there were only the neo-Nazis marching, to doubly despicable and violent when the communists, anarchists, and antifa (many checking off two of these three categories) showed up with clubs and baseball bats and bricks and cans filled with concrete, spoiling for a fight. Which they got, thanks to inept policing. Even Heather Heyer's friends and family say that she died fighting for what she believed in.
If one engages in political violence then one should not cry crocodile tears when the violence rebounds and kills someone.
As always, I am a broken record.
To repeat - Trump is an effect, not a cause.
History pops up Trumps, or equivalents, regularly.
They happen when the state of the popular will creates their moment, always when the customary elites are seen as corrupt and incompetent, having lost "the mandate of heaven" in the Chinese conception.
Hate of Trump, or obsession with Trump, is equal parts the deep human need to personalize phenomena, and a displacement of tribal hatreds, where lie the true cultural/economic issues. People still, being cowards, avoid grasping the nut of the problem, which is a set of irreconcilable conflicts of interest between American populations. Its a very scary realization, but any resolution to this requires that illusions be removed, genuine hatreds frankly revealed. No resolution is possible otherwise.
Hate? Look at the comments directed at Obama, his spouse, and his kids.
You’re a hypocrite.
The Occupation and violence on inauguration day were especially informative. But, that was only the highlight of an anti-native bent, which was preceded by decades of diversity, occupation, harassment, witch hunts (public), baby hunts (private), and mass projection, followed by nearly a decade of social justice adventurism, trails of tears, immigration reform, environmental and labor arbitrage, gerrymandered districts, redistributive change, and, throughout, selective and recycled-child carried out behind a veil of privacy. Neo-Nazi, in principle.
"Again, I’m not joking, I’m expressing concern."
Bullshit.
“Heather Heyer was working for a communist front organization (so much for "innocent") and involved in a protest that went from despicable but nonviolent when there were only the neo-Nazis marching, to doubly despicable and violent when the communists, anarchists, and antifa (many checking off two of these three categories) showed up with clubs and baseball bats and bricks and cans filled with concrete, spoiling for a fight. So she deserved to be run down and killed? What are you saying here? Check yourself.
I cringe slightly, knowing how much he bothers other people. should read:
I smile broadly, knowing how much he bothers all the 'right' people.
Did I forget to mention your side supports the selling baby parts. A thinking individual would label this barbaric. No, not the libs. And you have the temerity to say Trump brought coarseness to the forefront.
"I am strongly against the USGA/PGA Tour's new rule which would require tournament officials to ignore persons who call in with valid Rules concerns/ questions."
Has it been that long since you've gotten some pussy, Chuck?
Inga believes a conservative is likely to strap on a suicide vest?
But it was a Leftist Collectivist who shot up a softball practice.
And it was a Leftist Collectivist who shot up the Family Research Center.
Crazy: always descending on the Right but landing on the Left.
What Humperdink above, said!
Inga, you're the one joking about political violence. Just stop it.
She's not joking.
However, she'll gleefully squat in front of her computer screen while her fellow leftists do her dirty work.
Inga, still in denial, responds: "Hate? Look at the comments directed at Obama, his spouse, and his kidsands."
Got your thumb on the scale? Can't read news stories over the the past year and half? Skipped watching CNN, NBC, CBS, ABC, MSLSD? Missed the bloody head of Trump being held by a comedian? Didn't see Baron Trump being ID'd as autistic? Did see Trump being seriously called mentally ill?
Inga, if can equate the level of vitriol leveled at Trump with what was directed at Obama, your head is so far in the sand you could mine some uranium. And sell it the Rooskies.
“But it was a Leftist Collectivist who shot up a softball practice.”
But it was a Rightist Neo Nazi who ran down a protester with his car.
“And it was a Leftist Collectivist who shot up the Family Research Center.”
And it was a Rightist anti abortion nutcase who shot up a Planned Parenthood Clinic.
I am strongly against the USGA/PGA Tour's new rule which would require tournament officials to ignore persons who call in with valid Rules concerns/ questions.
100% unsurprising. Of course, while PGA Professional David Eger makes the call in an effort to assist the player by preventing him from a disqualification penalty you're the guy calling in bad faith in order to second guess tournament officials, disrupt the tournament outcome and generally causing a nuisance. IOW, exactly what you do here.
So she deserved to be run down and killed? What are you saying here? Check yourself.
Inga, try to calm down. The woman in Charlottesville was not struck by the car you describe. If she was hit, and it is not clear that she was hit at all, it was by another car that had been parked to block the street, possibly by the people she was associated with.
You and Patrick Frey are unhinged by Trump hatred. You make it obvious here. He has lost quite a few former commenters like me and acquired a set of new leftist trolls, similar to those here.
The "White Nationalists" were organized by a former "Occupy Wall Street" organizer. Maybe he is a false flag operator or maybe just an opportunist who wants power. The police in Charlottesville were poorly prepared or maybe told to stand down like those in Berkeley.
We are in the midst of an attempted coup like the one that brought down Nixon. Both were organized by rogue FBI elements.
As buwaya says, some of this is organized to defy public will. I am not ready to imagine a small cabal but the Administrative State is well capable of such mischief, You are a footsoldier in a cause you do not understand.
Flinging insults is certainly not a way to convince others that you are intelligent or well informed.
"Trumpit is another matter and has real mental issues."
Take a look in the mirror, Michael K, if you can keep from turning away from the hideous, and blood-curdling sight of your own face.
Why do you keep that harrowing picture of yourself up? It makes me gag every time I see it. Shave, lose some weight and get a normal pair of glasses, but I doubt it will help much. Your picture should come with a "grotesque image" warning. I wonder how many ER admissions your shocking Elephant-Man looks have caused. No wonder health care costs are exploding.

“Inga, if can equate the level of vitriol leveled at Trump with what was directed at Obama, your head is so far in the sand you could mine some uranium.”
Were you living under a rock during Obama’s Presidency?
I really hate saying this, but if you don’t like being called deplorables, don’t live up to the moniker.
@Inga, I have NEVER feel sorry for someone who came looking for a fight and got more than they bargained for. That's not how the world works. Heather came to the event expecting SOMEbody to get hurt. And it turned out to be her. Why do you weep for her?
If Heather and the antifa had stayed home or had come to the neo-Nazi rally with signs and shouts of contempt, but stayed away from violence, she'd be alive and the neo-Nazis would have slithered back under their slime-covered stones, as they deserved. My takeaway from this episode is that left-wing protesters are more extreme, more violent, and more dangerous than neo-Nazis. Well done, antifa.
Would committing abortion to escape a kill-zone qualify as self-defense?
Maybe it was accidental. He was aiming for an opening to escape the encroaching mob, but the car ricocheted and hit one of the assailants. But, curiously, armed with a weapon of mass abortion, it did not progress to opening an abortion field. The latter is evidence that the abortion was not Planned.
Meanwhile, Melania still sizzles, and Trump is still taking out the trash. And leftist elements, diverse, abortive, congruent, social, and neo, are still showing the video, but with diminishing sales.
“Why do you weep for her?”
She was a human being. Does that hav any value to you people anymore? Or is it now OK to murder your political enemies? Listen to yourselves? What have you become? Actually that is worth weeping over.
I really hate saying this
No you don't.
Obama also was a figurehead, very obviously a puppet of greater forces, and a man with no real will of his own.
Hating Obama was an even greater displacement of emotions.
People so love obsessing on the trivial.
“Heather D. Heyer, a young woman with a big heart and a love for all individuals regardless of race, religion or creed, lost her life August 12, 2017 when a car plowed into a crowd of counterdemonstrators who were protesting a rally of neo-Nazis, Ku Klux Klan members and other white nationalists.
Heather was a high school graduate who had worked for years as a waitress and a bartender until 2012 when she was given the opportunity to work at a local law firm in Charlottesville, VA. Upon getting this opportunity to better herself and establish a career, Heather embraced and worked hard to become a paralegal. While working as a paralegal, Heather continued to voice her concerns and views about equality. She had many days she would cry at her desk because of minorities or isolated religious cultures were being unjustly treated. By speaking out for justice and equality, Heather embodied the spirit of the civil rights movement.
Heather was a young woman who was deeply involved in taking a stand against injustice when she didn’t have to do so. Heather’s story shows how much has changed since the civil rights movement but it also shows how much hasn’t changed.
The Heather Heyer Foundation was created to honor Heather Heyer, a young civil rights activist, who dedicated her life to promoting equal rights for all people. The Foundation has established a scholarship program to provide financial assistance to individuals passionate about positive social change. Scholarships will be awarded to those seeking a degree or certification in, but not limited to, law, paralegal studies, social work, social justice, and education. Help us make a difference, and as Heather had often quoted “If you’re not outraged you’re not paying attention” by Anonymous .”
https://www.heatherheyerfoundation.com/story
You did read the inquiry into the incident right, it wee the failure of the police to do diligence that caused the chaos that claimed young heather heyers life.
Trumpit displays his insanity each comment posted. Now he doesn't like my atavar which I changed because another left wing troll complained about the previous one. There is no pleasing some idiots.
That photo, by the way, is my middle daughter's favorite photo of me.
You lefties are consumed with hate. Sad to see.
Life is good !
There are millions of people to grieve for, daily.
There are thousands of personal tragedies daily in the US alone.
Why grieve for one and not another?
The answer is simple - its not the person at all, but the symbol. It is a political act and a reaction to a perceived threat to the tribe.
This makes the act of "grief" into something much less respectable.
The first step in proper analysis is to remove the fog of emotion. We are observers of, among other things, a very complex version of chess. In chess you do not grieve for a pawn sacrifice.
antifa had stayed home
The fact that, armed with a vehicle of mass abortion, his action did not progress to opening an abortion field, suggests that an abortion was neither Planned nor elective, but committed in a moment of desperation to escape an encroaching mob with abortive intentions in their hearts and minds.
After approving the First Amendment right for Americans to protest Talibanesque practices (e.g. wilding, destruction of public and private property, Occupation), the government had a duty to preserve a peaceful environment. They failed, and a left-wing faction succeeded in creating a kill-zone that captured one if its own in an indiscriminately spun web.
Inga responded:"Were you living under a rock during Obama’s Presidency?"
I was not. I am fully aware of what was directed at Obama. The troubling part, Inga, is that you think what was directed at Obama EQUALS what has been said and done to Trump (in one year's time). It is why you have zero credibility. None.
@Inga, lots of humans die who did nothing wrong, nothing illegal, just trying to make their way in the world. People die in Chicago because something they said was interpreted as a "dis" and responded to with violence. I weep for them. People die after being hit by a drunk driver. I weep for them. Homeless people freeze to death in weather like this. I weep for them. A young soldier just out of basic training and home on leave saved four people from a burning building, and died going back in to save a fifth. I weep for him. At least one firefighter died out in California's wildfires, I weep for him. Forty ordinary people died in the California wildfires, and more are missing -- some of them will turn out to be dead. I weep for them. I weep for Andrew Finch. I weep for the people who died attending a country music concert in Las Vegas. I especially weep for the men who used their bodies to shield women, in at least one case to shield young women whom he didn't even know.
You ask me to weep for someone who died fomenting violence merely because she and I share a species designation? Then what about the man who lured police to his home, where he killed one policeman and wounded four deputies? He and I are also in the same species. Should I weep for him, too? Should I weep for Stephen Paddock?
a very complex version of chess
A very diverse field, with around 7 billion pawns globally, around 300 million pawns in our own community, and a minority cast directing, corralling, influencing our perception, to promote the far less diverse top-heavy population of kings and queens. It seems to be an inevitable progression following every recurring and seemingly periodic reset.
“You lefties are consumed with hate. Sad to see.
Life is good !”
Life is good for me too Michael. I’m not estranged from my one daughter who is a conservative, I still love her very much and we have a good relationship. I am pleased to hear that she and my son in law cannot stand Trump now and have said they would no longer vote for him. Maybe you and your son can one day repair your relationship.
To justly weep in all cases where we should weep, we would be consumed with weeping, to the exclusion of anything else. We would die of weeping, and as we do, the more the survivors will have to weep about, until there is no-one left to weep. This is of course argumentum ad absurdum, but the idea needs to be examined, because it reveals personal motivations.
There are few things as instructive as examining ones own emotions. Are they just? Are they rational? Are they useful? If not, purge them, they are useless and harmful.
So comes the question again - why should you weep?
The simple answer is the correct one - you were told to weep.
Your sources of information want you to think that this tragedy far away is worse than any number of others closer to you.
They tell you about this tragedy and none of those others - why? They have rational, practical, unemotional reasons to make you weep.
Everything works out for the best with FakeInga's inaginary daughters. Even the "conservative" ones come to their senses and agree with Mommy. Then they shit on the sidewalks as a family--as it should be.
I don't really get it. Why do so many of you lefties revel in attacking others with the most vile personal garbage?
You all ENJOY it.
Sad.
"Maybe you and your son can one day repair your relationship."
The left always has to go to personal insults, even when they pretend sympathy.
My relationship with one of my sons is no affair of yours. Your lies suggest that your family history presented here may be imaginary.
You really are the despicable ones. I will no longer address you. I considered you amusing and misinformed but not evil like Ritmo and crazy like trumpit,
I withdraw those opinions based on newer evidence,
I never forget for a moment that when the Left comes to power, people like Ritmo and Trumpit will be wielding it in the bureaucracy. There will be no quarter and no mercy for their enemies.
rehajm;
We should totally have the fight you are talking about. I really don't think this is the forum. Let's find another place; GolfWRX is totally set up for that.
As for Eger, he made his mark as a Walker Cupper, and rules official, before he turned pro and joined the Champions Tour.
Anyway, I want this fight so bad; bring it on.
There was a little girl aborted in Ukraine by Antifa forces. Unfortunately, Trump seems deferential to Obama-era policy. So, there's that.
“My relationship with one of my sons is no affair of yours. Your lies suggest that your family history presented here may be imaginary.”
Then don’t speak about it here. Your life and family is no more real or fake than mine is. And Patterico is right about you.
I suspect Mike K wants to be banned so he can run around the Internet complaining that he got banned here. It’s not going to happen, Mike K. You and your (currently dishonest and nasty, I hate to say) commentary will always be welcome here. If being banned is your sole goal in hanging around insulting me and lying about what I say, that goal will not be achieved.
It’s sad to see what’s happened to you, though. You were once a gentleman and honest. Now you lie about me. It’s a stark and very disappointing change.

I hate the phrase "Trump derangement Syndrome" because it implies the person involved is "normal" and was just become "unhinged" because of Trump.
Which is most cases is False.
Trump has done the greatest service EVER to the conservative movement but opening people's eyes to the Frauds, phonies, and assholes that were leading it. The girly men at NR, Kristol and his band of Hillary supporting Neo-cons. Frauds like Burt Stephens and Bruce Bartlett. Globalists open border losers like Flake, Romney, and Kasich.
"Conservative Inc." with their 2016 support of Hillary and their sabotage of a Republican POTUS has shown their true colors.
"Obama also was a figurehead, very obviously a puppet of greater forces, and a man with no real will of his own."
I've always thought the same thing. Obamacare? Cut me a break. Which makes the present situation with Trump even more intriguing. How deep does this run, and what group is behind it? Is it the corrupt Clinton machine only? How much of a hand does Soros have in this? I'm thinking it is a lot more than just Chicago politics. Jarrett should be waterboarded until she spills something. Someone knows something, and I'm assuming ignorance is bliss where Obama is concerned.
Patterico is another left-wing fraud posing as a conservative. When criticizing the Left, he shows trepidation and pulls his punches. But when criticizing the Right, Katie bar the door! Patterico foams at the mouth, and expresses his undying hatred.
“If you don’t ban me from looking, I will come by without commenting.”
There is no such thing as banning someone from looking. And trolls like you don’t stop commenting. That’s what makes you a troll. (Well, that, and deliberately misstating my position, and refusing to apologize even when it’s been carefully explained to you.)
You are a troll now. That’s what you do. It is in your nature. You will not stop. You’ll continue to push away those you were close to, and tell yourself it’s everyone else’s fault but your own. What you won’t do, for sure, is stop commenting.

Every time I hear/see that phrase, I correct it in my mind to: "Trump's Derangement Syndrome." Trump upsets thinking people constantly with his lying and inanities, but, make no mistake, he's the crazy, amoral, & imbecilic one.
