"If everything he's doing has a very specific motivation behind it, why's he talking to us?" (The NYT interviews Steve Bannon.)

ADDED: I'd like to see a transcript of the full interview. That video is edited, and I'm not seeing edits that seem unfair, but I'd like to see or read the whole thing.

Bannon is speaking in Tucson the 18th and we plan to be there. The VP tickers have been sold out.

The NY Times is gobsmacked that he will talk to them,

I love it.

Beloved Commenter AReasonableMan म्हणाले...

This is a well regulated militia.

Known Unknown म्हणाले...

ARM, always on topic.

Bay Area Guy म्हणाले...

More Bannon, less Beta-Males at the NYT

Patrick म्हणाले...

Off topic, yes, but a very cool video. The changing of the guard is something to see.

Drago म्हणाले...

ARM doesn't understand what a militia is, and he wants to be sure he mentions it often enough that you know that he doesn't know what a militia is.

I cannot fathom why.

Drago म्हणाले...

Who can forget ARM's other great hit from the other day where he minimized another dem/lefty physical political-motivated attack on a republican and tried to excuse it as just a neighborly quarrel.

You know, like that "misunderstanding" between Bernie Bro/lefty Hodgekinson and those republicans that "got a little out of hand" but is all better now.

Big Mike म्हणाले...

If the allegation against Moore is true, then Bannon needs to learn how to vet candidates. If false, then he should be in Alabama helping to prove that the allegation is a hoax.

ARM should learn how to read the US Code, where the militia is defined.

buwaya म्हणाले...

The point of the Second Amendment is to preserve the capability to oppose those fellows doing the changing of the guard ceremonies.

Armies are meant to be impressive and have an emotional impact, that is part of their point, to preserve the mystique of power and legitimacy.

Looking at this without patriotic biases, there are a lot of militaries around the world that can and do put on such ceremonies. This has been going on since war-bands did their war-dances around the tribal camp-fire.

buwaya म्हणाले...

Armies with good form in ceremonial are common. That is not a bit unique to the US; in fact traditionally the US military was held to be quite deficient in ceremonial snap.

What is (almost) unique to the US is the institutionalization of a right to revolt.

buwaya म्हणाले...

And that, the American ethic of revolt, is the subtext of Bannon, and Trump, to bring it back to this interview.

Listen to Bannon. He is a revolutionary speaking to those he is attempting to overthrow.

chickelit म्हणाले...

The video: Highly edited, highly stylized, and highly suspect. Can the NYT do anything right?

buwaya म्हणाले...

Bannon got through.

I wonder, to flip the question, not why Bannon spoke to the NYT (as the fictional-editorial meeting asked), but why the NYT spoke to Bannon.

Beloved Commenter AReasonableMan म्हणाले...

Not a well-regulated militia, nor this.

You have no idea what "well regulated" means in context.
The ORD is your friend.

Rusty म्हणाले...

OED doh!

Beloved Commenter AReasonableMan म्हणाले...

The Greater ORD or the Lesser ORD?

Drago म्हणाले...

ARMs link showing some, er, aggressive overeaters, with weapons has a label "2nd Amendment Does Not Apply".

Wrong. Obviously.

But it does go nicely with lefties saying the first amendment no longer applies.

Why don't we just skip to the chase ARM: you are clearly all about scrapping the Constitution because it is getting in your way.

Not to mention those writers of the Constitution we're all white guys and the Constitution, per Klein, is, like, what? Over a hundred years old or something.

Drago म्हणाले...

"ARM should learn how to read the US Code, where the militia is defined."

The US Code was written by a failed white supremacist culture and must be discarded. All must now be judged politically.

Your rights come from ARMs preferred pals, and not anyone else.

Get used to it.

exiledonmainstreet, green-eyed devil म्हणाले...

ARM, do you have an attention deficit disorder that makes you incapable of staying on topic?

You're like a hyperactive 5 year old watching a parade.

buwaya म्हणाले...

This is an uncomfortable thought, because it is not normal in a comfortable society to realistically contemplate these things, but the unavoidable subtext, the necessary conditions and the effect of the Second Amendment are: tyranny, impunity, mass murder, chaos.

This revolutionary provision is not going to, or intended to, produce comfort. It is meant to create dissatisfaction, uncertainty, fear, among the ruling class.

Yeah, the people who cheer on and joke about and excuse the violence of the left are the same people who want to take our guns away.

They can go to hell.

buwaya म्हणाले...

Bannon is explicit about this, the subtext of the 2A, without mentioning the 2A. But Bannon, Trump, and the 2A are highly related.

Beloved Commenter AReasonableMan म्हणाले...

I must admit that I am confused by the concept of people not grasping that long time neighbors might have a complex relationship that crosses multiple issues, not exclusively to do with gardening but unlikely to exclude it, especially along the property line.

I have neighbors. I have a prepared speech for the press when they kill each other.

Drago म्हणाले...

Lots if Antifa gardening disputes going on these days.

Who would have thought a standard lefty gardening disputes resolution techniques would include barring conservatives from speaking in campuses all across the country?

Hey, you know who had alot of lefty "gardening" disputes?

The Khmer Rouge.

Drago म्हणाले...

Lenin had a "minor dust-up" with the Ukrainians sometime back as well.

Che actually wrote about the farmers would have to be killed because they tended to grow and then sell stuff.

Boy, I can see how that would cause a lefty to become upset.

Much better if there were no food at all, like in the lefty People's Paradise of Venezuela!

Huzzah! All "gardening" problems solved!

Darrell म्हणाले...

I have neighbors. I have a prepared speech for the press when they kill each other.

I hope your neighbors are prepared, too.

Drago म्हणाले...

You know, ARM is on to something here.

It also explains the astonishing amount of murderous violence by those 14th century mentality Islamist supremacists.

They come over here from many dusty and dry lands and are just overwhelmed with the opportunities for gardening and lawncare.

Drago म्हणाले...

Even better, a clever lefty lawyer could argue that the only reason these dear, poor, triggered lawn-focused leftists and Islamists are attacking only republicans and conservatives is because of Monsanto fertilizer! Talk about a win-win for the left.

I'll bet LLR Chuck would volunteer to assist in such a case even though he "deeply, deeply" opposed it..(wink wink)

Drago म्हणाले...

Oh, why did Bannon do it?

There can be no greater thrill to walk into the belly of the beast and announce your clear intentions.

Drago म्हणाले...

It's exactly what Andrew Breitbart would do.

Beloved Commenter AReasonableMan म्हणाले...

Press: Were there any earlier indications of conflict?
Concerned Citizen: Yes. I saw this coming.
Press: Did you contact the authorities?
Concerned Citizen: No.
Press. Why not, if I may ask?
Concerned Citizen: I want new neighbors.

Inga...Allie Oop म्हणाले...

I think the NYTs wasn’t gobsmacked so much as suspicious. Of course Bannon thinks he’s playing some brilliant game, of course they know what he’s attempting to do. The NYTs didn’t just fall off the turnip truck.

Inga...Allie Oop म्हणाले...

Bannon is way too full of himself. No one takes him as seriously as he takes himself. Obviously he doesn’t get the vast readership of the Times at Breitbart, so he thinks he can get a wider audience to peddle his malevolent shit, so he sits for an interview. The Times readers are laughing our asses off at him, for his efforts. Keep trying Bannon, you disgusting schlump, no one is buying except Trumpists.

Michael K म्हणाले...

That reporter is a supercilious twerp.

Just what I would expect from the NY Times.

The turnip truck ! They wouldn't know what a turnip was if they didn't find it Gelson's.

Michael K म्हणाले...

In Gelson's, or whatever the equivalent is for NYC.

exiledonmainstreet, green-eyed devil म्हणाले...

Drago said...

The baseball field shooter's gripe was about gardening too. He objected to the baseball diamond and wanted to see the space returned to its' pristine natural state.

In fact the entire history of the Left is about gardening. Leftists want to see all who are opposed to them turned into fertilizer.

Howard म्हणाले...

ARM: It's clear that in context of the 2nd amendment that the people and militia are one and the same. Federal law defines the organized militia as the States National Guard and the unorganized militia as every man 18-45. I guess everyone else is a member of the disorganized militia.

The people's right to keep and arm bears is regulated. Given the gun murder and suicide rate of the US, a reasonable case can be made that the militia (the people) are poorly regulated as far as guns are concerned. This is especially true with inner-city gang and drug violence as well as the lone nutter white male mass murderer "you people" fixate on. You and your democratic friends might have more success improving the regulation of existing laws instead of gunslut shaming ignorant peons who dwell in Trumpland.

Howard म्हणाले...

Your snark isn't up to snuff, Mike. Gelsons? Olde School Cali, like Jordano's. No one remembers those stores. I bet you used to shop at the original TJ's in Pasadena long before it was the cool grocery for lefties on a budget.

For the NYT retweeter, you should have used Whole Foods certified organic non-GMO turnips to twist the snark into the lefty beast belly.

Howard म्हणाले...

Blogger Drago said...Even better, a clever lefty lawyer could argue that the only reason these dear, poor, triggered lawn-focused leftists and Islamists are attacking only republicans and conservatives is because of Monsanto fertilizer! Talk about a win-win for the left.

Except the truth is more sad than this pipe dream fiction you have concocted. The reality is that Monsanto is saturating flyover country with endocrine disruptors which is the main source of the chickencuck phenomenon. The chemical gender-alteration of right wankers leads to the over consumption of happy meals and happy pills while China and Mexico steal their milkshakes. Daddy Trump will fix it for ya.

Drago म्हणाले...

"Except the truth is more sad than this pipe dream fiction you have concocted."

Correction: pipe dream your very own post along with ARM have concocted.

I suppose it's your toxic masculinity and whiteness that keeps you from seeing that.

Do you intend to volunteer for the appropriate reeducation or will ARMs pals need to "persuade" you to "volunteer".

I wish you all the best in your coming re-programming.

buwaya म्हणाले...

Why such devotion to snark?
I ask sincerely.
It is sterile and does not really seem like fun.

Michael K म्हणाले...

Howard is in his/hers? element. Snarking on a conservative blog. It's what they live for.

Bad Lieutenant म्हणाले...

Buwaya, they may have come across a snippet of Musashi:

“The primary thing when you take a sword in your hands is your intention to cut the enemy, whatever the means. Whenever you parry, hit, spring, strike or touch the enemy's cutting sword, you must cut the enemy in the same movement. It is essential to attain this. If you think only of hitting, springing, striking or touching the enemy, you will not be able actually to cut him.”

― Miyamoto Musashi, The Book of Five Rings

Of course, they always have to grind it down to the bare metal. That's the thing - they don't know when to stop.

Drago म्हणाले...

Howard: "Drago: you bus drivers scare too easy."

How dare you sir!

Have you tried to navigate a 40' vehicle through mid-town at 4 pm?

If not, I will thank you to keep your opinions to yourself!

Besides, sometimes I'm doing other things simultaneously, like exposing myself to random women while listening to Louis CK podcasts.

Not to worry. I vote democrat, so it's all good.

Drago म्हणाले...

Howard: "...that's just chickencuck talk implanted in your head by short-bodied, tailless amphibian wayne lapierre surrender monkey to increase gun sales."

Since I'm a results-oriented type of fellow, I have but one question: Is it a successful tactic?

Now fetch my tea....(don't forget the milk). There's a good fellow.

Michael K म्हणाले...

The lefties don't realize that the NRA is the most successful Civil Rights organization since the 1960s.

Drago म्हणाले...

Michael K: "The lefties don't realize that the NRA is the most successful Civil Rights organization since the 1960s."

Au contraire.

The lefties certainly do realize that, and since the lefts purpose is the destruction and rewriting of our rights, the NRA is at the top of their list of enemies.

Howard म्हणाले...

Drago: One lump or two?

Rusty म्हणाले...

"The people's right to keep and arm bears is regulated. Given the gun murder and suicide rate of the US, a reasonable case can be made that the militia (the people) are poorly regulated as far as guns are concerned. "

Again check your OED as to what "regulated" meant in 1781.

Howard म्हणाले...

Spill it Rusty, the coy act is constipating. What did well regulated mean in 1781? What is the constitutional significance of a definition written by our enemies of those days?

Howard म्हणाले...

I think Bad Lefttennant is quoting the samurai version of counting coup. That's fair.

Howard: "Drago: One lump or two"

buwaya म्हणाले...

The samurai equivalent of counting coup was to decapitate your fallen enemies and line the heads up on racks to admire during the after-party.

That was stupid on so many levels, Billy Madison-esque. I almost congratulate you. I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that you have not read the Go Rin No Sho.

Bad Lieutenant म्हणाले...

Incidentally the clip you posted was both hideous and tedious. I couldn't listen to it for more than a few seconds at a time before hitting fast forward. And Dr. Demento was a name much conjured in my youth, so I'm sad to hear how lame the show actually was.

Howard म्हणाले...

No go rin tin tin no sho no pay

I agree about doctor demento. Never was into it during it's heyday, but I was just a wee lad. He had a Sunday night show in the mid 80's and the only thing I renembered was the tai kwon leap boot to the head routine.

Howard म्हणाले...

buwaya puti: please excuse the mansplaining from my position of white privilege. snark is used by men in the trades and the enlisted military as a bonding and learning tool. I started working construction in Jr Hi and still mix it up turning wrenches and building processes in industry. Early on, it became obvious to me that the more snark and crap the "old guys" heaped on you, it meant you were being accepted into the tribe. Snark and sarcasm is a form of communication that ironically transmits respect and male bonding. Someone who is always serious, fastidious, proper, overtly respectful, eager beaver etc, is considered a pussy, an office pogie, a college boy.

Unfortunately, not everyone goes through this type of socialization and therefore fails to understand the linguine frankfurter.

You obviously don't understand counting coup where the goal is to get close to your enemy, give them a boot to the head and get away. It takes more skill, courage and respect than the chopping and displaying of heads that you describe. That's a part of your culture that I cannot relate to.
