A nice Autumn walk...how long was it? 1 mile?

Ann Althouse ayon kay ...

That walk was under a mile. About 6 blocks.

The colors these last two sunsets are some of the best. I'm 60 miles east of Madtown.

Hadn't been planning to go for a walk, but I looked out the window and saw how great the sky was getting, so Meade pushed me to get my shoes on and go out. I need to do that all the time. Should do sunrise walks too. Just short, neighborhood walks, in the beginning and end of the day (and a more substantial walk somewhere in the middle). I walk a lot and average 3 miles a day, but I want to do multiple walks. (It's the main thing I do other than read, write, and hang around with Meade).

Gorgeous!

The house in the middle picture is The Harold C. Bradley House.

"Harold C. Bradley House, also known as Mrs. Josephine Crane Bradley Residence, is a Prairie School home designed by Louis H. Sullivan and George Grant Elmslie. It is located in the University Heights Historic District of Madison, Wisconsin, United States. A National Historic Landmark, it is one of just a few residential designs by Sullivan, and one of only two Sullivan designs in Wisconsin. ... The Bradley House, intended for professor Harold C. Bradley, was designed at a time when Sullivan's architectural practice was starting to fail. Once considered the foremost designer of skyscrapers, Sullivan now struggled to secure commissions and often sparred with clients....."

The pictures were taken with the iPhone and do not show the depth and detail and subtle color properly.

We had a fabulous sunrise this past Saturday morning while out duck hunting. I've never seen so much intense red in the sky. It's not unusual at sunset, but it's rare at sunrise.

A photo is never as good as reality. Tho - my sunglasses make reality better.... rose colored, and all that.

Good to see you holding the camera horizontal again, Professor. Those tilted pictures were coming to feel more like an affectation than an artistic requirement.

I have a question about the Harold Bradley House. In Wikipedia there is the strange statement that the house “featured a living room and force to the rear, a library and kitchen on the two wings, and a porte-cochère on the main entrance.” What sort of room is a “force”?

Everyone at my house is getting more walks. Poodle boy needs at least 3 trips around the block per day. He has us trained well. He sits in front of one of us and stares and lets out low growls that get louder the longer we make him wait.

My samsung has an hdr setting, but even that can't properly capture what the eye sees in those sunsets. I like some of the hdr stuff out there done with dslr's and played around with it a little myself.

Juliet and I go on walks almost every evening.

Nice sunsets in Tucson, too. Not as cold, either.

Should do sunrise walks too.
A Maine resident did a blog about that: a year of getting up to meet the day.

THE CHALLENGE: Meet the first light of day outdoors for 365 days, beginning Jan. 1, 2010.

Which she did. She created a subsequent blog, The Sunrise Blogger.

There are days, and sunsets, when one is reminded that it is good to be alive.

that first pic is splendid - great catch

I've yet to see a camera that does a great sunset -- like tonight's -- justice.

I was watching it from my west-facing office window. Awesome.

Photographing sunsets with camera phones is so frustrating, but only a tenth as bad as trying to photograph the moon with them.

People also say this about their iPhone nude selfies.

Yep, last two nights have been great (and very different in composition).

Next we'll have some frenetic "journalist" desperately searching the internet to prove you stole them?

Aw, that sounds symbiotic - you protect her from ghosts and she makes sure you don't get lost on the way home.
