Megyn Kelly's 3rd effort at a morning show: She pisses off Jane Fonda.

Not just rude, but anti-feminist.

I don't know who looked more uncomfortable; Jane Fonda wondering how the hell she ended up here, or Redford wondering how the hell he can get out of there.

Quaestor म्हणाले...

Fonda looks pretty good for a 79-year-old traitor.

rhhardin म्हणाले...

Women's fluff questions. Nothing offensive.

I like Redford's answer about what age he would like to go back to. I'd pick the same age

gspencer म्हणाले...

Hanoi Jane looked pretty good. It's the Redford dude that gets a "Yikes." That grizzled face looks like this side of the Eiger.

J. Farmer म्हणाले...

Apparently there was some bugaboo about something Kelly said to a "superfan" of Will & Grace, whose main cast was on the show promoting the reboot.

Why 'Will & Grace' star Debra Messing regrets appearance on 'Megyn Kelly Today'

Quaestor म्हणाले...

Fonda's problems stem from people being too polite to her.

Unfortunately for Kelly's NBC career the "rude" question looks like grandstanding for a ratings uptick. And to be fair that's just what it was.

Matt Sablan म्हणाले...

I wonder if Kelly thought of the question, or if it was something that was suggested.

Quaestor म्हणाले...

I wonder what the Today Show demographic looks like. Not pretty, I'll wager.

Krumhorn म्हणाले...

Its hard to give a crap about any one of them....and I used to be a big Kelly fan.

The Godfather म्हणाले...

When I saw the caption on the post I thought, Well anything that pisses off Jane Fonda is OK with me. But in fact Kelly's question was so stupid and light weight I found myself almost on Fonda's side. Almost. I know people that those North Viet Namese anti-aircraft guns shot at. But a stupid question is a stupid question even if you're asking a traitor.

Sprezzatura म्हणाले...

Megyn's problem was the way she asked. She shoulda said: 'Hey I've been accused of blood leaking, and Mika's been a accused of blood leaking because of plastic surgery. Is it true that getting work done results in face menstruation?'

Keep it classy.

Luke Lea म्हणाले...

That's Jane Fonda? Unrecognizable.

David Begley म्हणाले...

Jane really looks like her dad. And, of course, Henry was from Omaha.

rhhardin म्हणाले...

I've watched only one Jane Fonda movie, Monster in Law.

rhhardin म्हणाले...

Is there a corresponding point to coming of age, meaning the actress is going to take her shirt off, for old ladies, something like coming of old age, where she'll stop?

rhhardin म्हणाले...

I've reached solid dregs now, in the You May Also Like recommendations, having bailed out early from the last four consecutive DVDs.

HoodlumDoodlum म्हणाले...

Fuck Jane Fonda. Don't care about the show, don't care about the question, don't care to watch some promotion for some Media product.
Fuck Jane Fonda. When the Left talks to you about patriotism or dissent or what it means to be a "real American" or whatever remind them that they allowed Jane Fonda to remain a rich celebrity.

Michael K म्हणाले...

She didn't ask Redford about his plastic surgery, at least in the 30 seconds I could stand it.

Sexism !

Sebastian म्हणाले...

"Not just rude, but anti-feminist." Sorry, can't bring myself to watch Hanoi Jane. Did Kelly ask Redford why he is a leftist fool without calling Jane on her treason--was that the rude and anti-feminist bit?

President-Mom-Jeans म्हणाले...

Let nobody ever say Megyn Kelly has no redeeming qualities. It would have made for much better television if she slapped that Commie twat in her plastic face on live tv, but I'll settle for merely being rude to her and that crusty old douchebag Redford.

Bix Cvvv म्हणाले...

One of the unfortunate things about getting older is that the men and women who are in their 50s are a lot more different from each other than the men and women who are in their 20s. It makes sense - 50 years of being female, as opposed to male, compared to 50 years of being male, as opposed to female, makes more of a difference between people than 20 years of each would make between the same two people. And it is so sad to see how little the public figure known as Jane Fonda has appreciated the gift of being a woman: and how little she has noticed how much she has lost by not appreciating men. One hopes her private life has been different. In real life, it always makes me sad when one of my younger friends cluelessly exclaims how much she wants a Daughter, or how happy her husband will be to have a Son - or vice versa - there were many foolish Greek Gods (actually all of them were foolish except Athena/Minerva and, up to a point, Apollo) but none so foolish as to tempt fate by asking God specifically for a god-like daughter as opposed to a god-like son, or vice versa (that foolishness was reserved for mortals). You can look it up, as K.C. Stengel used to say. If you have read this far, wondering what point I am trying to make: feminism and misogyny, those sad deceptive mirrors that abound on our airwaves like grease on the gray top of yesterday's Bowery Row soup, are such a waste of time. But those things sell in the media markets that so many of us go along with, and get fakely excited by (look! - amazing independent women; look! - super-cool McSteamy men). We need to tell each other to wake up.

Sam L. म्हणाले...

Anti-feminist sounds great to me. Pissing off Jane? You GO, Megan!

donald म्हणाले...

I ran into Jane Fonda at CNN center in like 1998 or so. I was impolite, I'll leave it at that.

D 2 म्हणाले...

C'mon, don't be too morose, rh, why dontcha settle in and re-watch The Guns of Navarone and - given this post - Barbarella. Surely there is a conclusion to find in such a pairing.

mockturtle म्हणाले...

Ye gods! When I saw the still photo I thought that was George Soros on the left [appropriately]! Age didn't deal kindly to Redford. Not that I liked him, anyway. This is just another Hollywood movie promotion shtick. Megan is pathetic.

Jon Burack म्हणाले...

I had a hard time even making sense of Fonda's reaction and not much easier a time making sense of Megan Kelly's question. Fonda is as hard and enraged as I remember her from a day when she still looked her age. Her rage, I assume (I am guessing, I admit) is in part a reflection of her sense of how false it all is with her even though she is supposed to be the truth. Redford laughably wanted to go back to pre-adolescence. I wonder if Jane Fonda ever got beyond it.

Skipper म्हणाले...

Didn't see it but annoying Fonda can't be all bad.

rcocean म्हणाले...

Amazing that old Cunt is still hawking her wares.

If Kelly "pissed her off" - well good for her.

And no, I'm not going to watch these two unlikable Bitches prattle on about whatever.

Jon Burack म्हणाले...

By the way, Mockturtle, haven't you ever known anyone who aged before? Redford looks like what we all ultimately look like as we go along. It's Fonda who does not. And she does not in such a startling way, that I cannot believe EVERYONE who sees her does not wonder about exactly what Megan asked. The whole point of the show, as near as I can see, is to gossip about what these people are up to and who they are. Fonda's lifelong struggle against time is a very fundamental part of whos he is. Redford, whatever else there is about him, is living his way along like all of us. Like you, I would assume.

Wince म्हणाले...

With all those old romantic photos in the background Megyn didn't ask them if they ever fucked?

rcocean म्हणाले...

Jane Fonda's mother was a nutcase that committed suicide. I think jane fonda inherited some of the madness, there's always been something weird and unbalanced about her.

Wince म्हणाले...

And, if so, at what age did they fuck?

rcocean म्हणाले...

Its amazing that I hate John McCain AND Jane fonda. It must something about that Generation.

Ralph L म्हणाले...

I'm sure old people like to talk about their age and appearance in front of tens of people.

rcocean म्हणाले...

Isn't anyone going to mention Redford and Fonda are around 80.

Many people are dead by then. So, yeah they don't look like spring chickens and will probably pushing up the daises in 5-10 years.

Birkel म्हणाले...

My disdain for Jane Fonda has yet to find a limit.
She is a grotesque and twisted human.

rcocean म्हणाले...

Isn't this where, so some Gay guy pops up and says that Jane Fonda has never looked more beautiful?

Birkel म्हणाले...

rcocean,
People who reach 80 are a favorite to make 90.
People who reach 90 are NOT a favorite to make 100.

Trumpit म्हणाले...

In 2009 and in a few subsequent years:
"Theatrical circles in New York are all aflutter with Jane Fonda's return to the stage. The Barbarella star has recently tried to kick-start her movie career (twice) with forgettable Hollywood fare and now she's opted for the thrill of live theatre. After a 46-year absence, she is back on Broadway in a play about Beethoven. Your enthusiasm for her bravery and acting prowess will spur you to tell your pals she's made the right move. But never mind that. What did she look like?"

I saw 33 Variations in downtown Los Angeles; she looked and acted just fine. She loved the deserved applause and looked proud/happy. She was in her early 70's at the time. More Kudos to her for taking on a major part (and killing it) in a period piece about Beethoven. Her plastic surgery was/is fabulous if that's what Megyn was asking about.

Comanche Voter म्हणाले...

"Pissing off" Little Janey Fondle, the Hanoi loving hottie? That's the first thin Megyn has done in a long time that I can fullky get behind. You go girl!

Wince म्हणाले...

I expect Megyn Kelly's upcoming interview with Hugh Hefner will be more lively than that one,

Big Mike म्हणाले...

She had Redford and Fonda on and didn't think to ask whether, given the need to reduce CO2 emissions today, they regretted making "The China Syndrome "?

mockturtle म्हणाले...

John Burack admonishes me: By the way, Mockturtle, haven't you ever known anyone who aged before? Redford looks like what we all ultimately look like as we go along.

Well, I hope I would not wear a bad brown toupee.

mockturtle म्हणाले...

EDH muses: I expect Megyn Kelly's upcoming interview with Hugh Hefner will be more lively than that one,

Not likely, since Hefner is now dead.

Big Mike म्हणाले...

I may need to rethink half of my atheism. Given the way Trump's enemies are self-immolating it's starting to look plausible that he did sell his soul to the devil.

Ralph L म्हणाले...

Not likely, since Hefner is now dead.
I think that was EDH's point.

Bay Area Guy म्हणाले...

Redford was definitely a Hollywood Titan - Butch Cassidy, The Sting and All the President's Men established that.

But I never thought much of Jane Fonda. Barbarella was a hideous joke. I can't even think of a good movie with her. 9to5 with Dolly Parton? On Golden Pond?

Her life got subsumed by her Hanoi exploits, Jazzercise and marriages to Tom Hayden and Ted Turner. Not impressed.

Fritz म्हणाले...

Cat Ballou. All down hill from there.

mockturtle म्हणाले...

On Golden Pond?

That movie always affects me, I think because the strained relationship between father and daughter mirrored my own so closely. Never considered Jane much of an actress, though. If she hadn't been Henry's daughter no one would ever have heard of her.

I'm so sick of celebrities. They can all blow up for all I care.

You missed the humour. Even his being dead would be more lively than this interview.

I only got half-way through that tape. Too many negative waves.

I liked Jane Fonda in Klute. What a creepy, weird movie.

And Robert Redford, so good in The Natural and I liked him in Sneakers and The Sting and Butch and Sundance. And Three Days of the Condor. Mostly his work before he became such a pompous bore. He's old and wrinkly now but there was a time when he was a truly fine looking man.

n.n म्हणाले...

Anti-female chauvinist? Progress. Positive progress.

William म्हणाले...

She looked frail and old but in that waxen way movie stars look when they get old. Not too fragile though. That was some chilling shade she threw Kelly. Trump can't cast much shade in Kelly's world, but Fonda's a presence you must defer to and Kelly deferred......Fonda and Redford both look about as good as you can look at that age. I think Redford looks a little better than Fonda, precisely because he's had so much less work. He looks old in a human way. Fonda looks old in an uncanny valley way.......Paul Newman looked very good right to the end. But then he died, and that's something guaranteed to ruin your looks. Even Newman can't handle the maggots in the eye socket look.

Yancey Ward म्हणाले...

I am sorry, you don't say things like that without clearing it first with the guest. It is just impolite. However, I think Kelly is going to find her life miserable in this show coming, as she does, from FoxNews. Honestly, she really should be careful about inviting polarizing figures from the left- they won't think twice about torpedoing her if given even the slightest opening to do so.

And Fonda does look pretty good for her age.

William म्हणाले...

Here's an interesting point of convergence with Jane Fonda and Svetlana Stalin. They both learned that their mother committed suicide by reading about it years later in a magazine. Whatever daddy issues they had were not diminished by learning this in such a way.. I think the ambivalence and hostility they both showed towards their native lands were part of those daddy issues.

Earnest Prole म्हणाले...

I tried and failed to gather the enthusiasm to click on that video.

Yancey Ward म्हणाले...

If you want to see Fonda at her best, Klute is the movie to watch, followed by On Golden Pond. I also have been partial to The Morning After, though it isn't quite as good a movie as the other two.

Ralph L म्हणाले...

but Redford still has it.

He didn't in Out of Africa.

Overshadowed by the flamingos.

RAH म्हणाले...

She gave up the fox gig for this? So rude asking about plastic surgery. This is a fail.

donald म्हणाले...

It's Jane Fonda, anything that embarrasses or pisses her off is a good thing. What a horrible person.

Clyde म्हणाले...

It used to be 'Live fast, die young, leave a good-looking corpse." Fonda is well past the 'die young' part, but thanks to her plastic surgeon, she'll manage that last one.

On a side note, I don't trust men who cross their legs at the knee like that.

HoodlumDoodlum म्हणाले...

All this clucking about politeness is highly gendered policing of women's expression, if you ask me (and I'm a woke man so I know about these kind of things).
You wouldn't require a male journalist to be polite and deferential and passively let some celebutard lead the conversation--you'd want the me journalist to make the interview subject sweat a little, to "afflict the comfortable" and so on.

These calls for Kelly to behave herself are highly problematic. You sexists are all on notice.

Bad Lieutenant म्हणाले...

Speaking of sexist, her new hairstyle doesn't work for me. It makes her brain look smaller. Needed the height in the old hairstyle.

When did Robert Redford transition? Makes for a homely old woman though.

*I don't have cable.* I would sometimes watch her show at the gym.

Hanoi Jane Fonda committed treason. She should have been given the "ultimate high"!

"committed suicide. I think jane fonda inherited some of the madness, there's always been something weird and unbalanced about her."

Combined with a very cold father, who apparently never complimented his daughter no matter how well she did. Serious daddy issues, which apparently significantly affected her relationships with men. She claimed that she would do anything her husband's wanted her to do, including nude scenes in movies at a time when good actresses just didn't do them. Still, she got her politics honestly, from her father. Jimmy Stewart, his best friend, occasional roommate, etc commented on how they were always the odd couple, politically and lifestyles. I always found her father's acting somehow compelling. And really see that more in his granddaughter than his daughter.

Bill R म्हणाले...

She pisses off Jane Fonda! Well. so far so good then.

Dust Bunny Queen म्हणाले...

I have only seen Jane Fonda in two movies. (that I can recall)

Barbarella in 1968 at a drive in movie with some friends. The film was ok. The drive in movie experience was more memorable. I really miss the drive in movies. Ahhh the nostalgia.

The other film was Cat Ballou which is still a pretty hilarious movie. So bad it was good. Lee Marvin was incredible in his part as the drunken washed up gunfighter. 10/10 would watch again. (which shows my taste in the few movies I have seen in my lifetime)

I think Fonda was pissed because she thought they were on the show to talk about their new movie and then was blindsided by Kelly asking her personal questions about her plastic surgery. Really rude of Kelly to ambush her guest like that.

GRW3 म्हणाले...

The stage for her failure was set with her fist question to Trump in the first Fox debate. I can't help but feel that while she was a big deal on Fox she yearned for the Big Time of ABCNBCCBS. A voice, in her head or maybe her agent, said she couldn't make the step as a sharp centrist woman, she had to be a feminist icon. So when viewers were anticipating a debate about issues we care about, she drug it right down the misogyny rabbit hole. Mission accomplished, she make her feminist bones, and that led to her NBC deal.

The problem is that it's a suit that doesn't fit. She's not really a left wing harpy, she's a Midwest mom with a passel of kids. The left wing doesn't want imitation feminist when there is plenty of the real thing available. She can't go back to Fox because she jilted her natural audience. Too bad, I used to like her. (Don't discount the fact that NBC might have seen it a worth it to give her the money to break up Fox news primetime to give MSNBC a leg up, which has worked for a while.)

wendybar म्हणाले...

Fonda is a traitor...She shouldn't even be in the USA..

Bruce Hayden म्हणाले...

"I thought Kelly was really great on Fox News. It's too bad she let Donny get the best of her.
Then, perhaps some of the sexual advances from Ailes (if true - I dunno?)where a bit too much?"

I always loved her on Fox News. That was her element, and if she had stuck there, she would be headed to being one of the top paid news people on cable TV. Maybe highest, with O'Reilly being forced out. Few could do the hard hitting cross examination of guests with such class and aplomb. The other former attys on the air with litigation experience tended to have criminal law backgrounds. Hers was in a white shoe law firm, and that, along with her looks, gave her the style that other female lawyers on the air did not have. Plus, a lightening fast mind.

I think that, in the end, her dislike of Trump brought her down. I think that it was visceral for her, and not ideological - she has always seemed a bit right of center politically, which is why she fit better at Fox than did, say, Greta. Trump has long been somewhat loose with the facts. He tends to be a bit factually incorrect at times, but turns out to have been essentially correct. Maybe his own phones hadn't actually been tapped, but his former campaign manager's apparently had been, and some of their conversations very likely had been intercepted by the Obama Administration. That sort of thing. I suspect that Trump's bombastic quasi truths were an irresistible lure for her litigation instincts. She instinctively pounced, and got personally brutally savaged by Trump, the same way he went after his Republican opponents, and most anyone else he saw as an enemy. Rinse and repeat. Which she might have survived at another network, but Fox couldn't afford having a main night anchor adverse to the Republican nominee, so I expect there was pressure to put up and shut up.

Ailes made Kelly. He made the careers of a number of the blond Fox News bimbos. Which helped make the network. And probably got some of them to sleep with him. But not, I expect Kelly. No doubt tried though. Probably no worse than she faced in the top tier NYC law market, where powerful clients, and even other attorneys, expect sex from a lot of the women they work with, or at least that they not get upset about being propositioned for such. Ailes may have been more of a pig about it than some of the smoother operators. But by the time that Kelly got her night time show, she had well enough power to tell him "no", and make it stick. And if Kelly, and some of these other women, had stuck around, just a couple months more, he was fired, and dead in short order. Nothing better as revenge in some of these cases as attending the funeral of their tormentor.

And that is the tragedy for Kelly. She was riding high, making millions, and becoming one of the most powerful women on TV, through a combination that includes an ability to do slicing cross examinations, but her instinct for the jugular that got her to the top destroyed her when she used it against the Republican nominee, who returned the favor by publicly savaging her, like only he can. If she could have just bit her tongue, as she would have had to do as an associate in the law firm. She would still be making millions, destined for millions more. Now? She doesn't have the personality for daytime TV, nor the politics for nighttime TV with other networks.

Molly म्हणाले...

I'm not sure that men understand the difficulties women face with aging: In our 20s (and 30s and even 40s) we were physically attractive to men (at least to some men); we would get chatted up, or asked on dates, or otherwise pursued, simply because of how we looked. Then starting in our 50s (or 40s) and accelerating through our 60s our youthful attractiveness fades: we put on weight, our breasts sag, our necks and jowls sag, our faces wrinkle, even our hair gets grayer, and thinner, and more brittle. We need to discover a new way of social interaction. Megyn Kelly, at 46, is just beginning the process of dealing with this, and is intrigued with the possibility that a woman can extend her years of youthful attractiveness through plastic surgery, and wants to talk about it to a person who has done this successfully.

The world will be a better place when Jane Fonda passes because people are still upset that she never recanted her antics. Those people will be able to bury those hateful feelings with her. When she dies, a little bit of unrequited hatred will die with her.

The reason Jane Fonda "never looks back" is because she did some pretty shameful and unnecessary things. As someone here once pointed out, by 1972, practically everyone in Hollywood but John Wayne and her own father were against the Vietnam War. But she -- and only she -- had to go to Hanoi to rub things in certain peoples' faces.

Was it "daddy issues"? Yes, I think so.
