Good thing you already know who I am, because otherwise, maybe someone who worked on something in those videos might have said something racist/homophobic/xenophobic/sexist one time and CNN might try to cow me into submission by threatening to tell you who I am.

There's that old aphorism "Never pick a fight with a man who buys ink by the barrel and paper by the ton."

That needs a revision in the age of Twitter memes.

Interesting to see the clip with Lindsay Lohan (at her best). She just tweeted in support of Trump (stop "bullying" him).

I don't think the media realizes yet the trouble they are in. They think life goes on like normal. That it's just a small segment of society that doesn't trust them but everyone else still loves them.

They should be the ones most in tune with society and they seem to be the ones least in tune. In a bubble of their own making. They don't see the train coming.

To put it another way. My parents generation still watches and has a fondness for media.

My generation distrusts media.

My kids generation has no need for these Yahoo's.

The best one I've seen so far, hands down, is the Matrix fight between Kenau Reeves and Smith turned into Trump vs CNN. The faces they picked for Trump in that were priceless. Second best was Hulk vs Loki.

Anyone watching cable and network news can see the audience is all old people. The ads are all for depends and viagra, and life insurance to cover funeral expenses. Oh, and GOLD! So you won't lose your retirement nest egg.

That was inevitable and well-deserved. Posing as the internet's Mother Grundy in this day and age is an act of insanity.

That's one of the favorite kid movies at our house. I agree Lohan was great (especially at a young age) and love the movie despite its absurd plot...but it also makes me sad now thinking of Logan's wasted talent as well as the untimely death of Natasha Richardson.

Ozymandias by Percy Bysshe Shelley

I met a traveller from an antique land,
Who said—“Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. . . . Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed;
And on the pedestal, these words appear:
My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings;
Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair!
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal Wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.

Henry म्हणाले...

This is as I predicted.

David Begley म्हणाले...

And how great was Natasha Richardson? She hit her head at a Canadian ski resort and died. I think a transfer to a US hospital. In my own mind I think her husband (Liam Neeson) took his rage out over her death in the "Taken" movies. My fantasy but I want to believe it.

This is going better than I thought. The self appointed mandarins might become so humiliated and despairing we won't have to wipe them out.

MaxedOutMama म्हणाले...

Eric @ 11:19 - Well, they created that situation themselves. If there still were a tradition of hard news reporting with the opinion stuff being relegated/segregated to editorials, this disrespect would not have arisen. When I was a kid Pravda was a big joke. Somehow, sometime, the average editorial board adopted Pravda's mission statement. They really do believe (and their reporters know) that their mission should be to tell readers what to think instead of report on what's happening.

I now read even science and medicine "articles" that are 7/10ths propaganda. As for the regular news outlets, I mostly just quit. It's not worth my time. I won't pay for any of this stuff, either. I would pay for news.

I am waiting for someone on CNN to have a mental breakdown on air screaming about all the incitement to violence, followed shortly thereafter by delivery of the pink slip and then a complete meltdown, followed shortly thereafter with CNN going bankrupt and being replaced by a channel that sells women's shoes. If CNN is going to be a laughingstock they might as well go full farce before they go away.

The alarms should have started going off for them around the time Dan Rather and NBC were busted by a group of bloggers in 2004 for relying on unauthenticated documents regarding Bush's service in the National Air Guard. Memogate happened in 2004, 13 years ago. Rather than learn a lesson from it, the Old Guard media sneered about bloggers in the pajamas (hence the name of PJ Media), who didn't have their "layers and layers" of fact checkers.

Everyone saw this coming - except for the media idiots. Amazing how reactionary "progressives" can be.

Bay Area Guy म्हणाले...

@exile,

People forget how close the 2004 election was. Bush only beat Kerry 51-48 in pop vote, and only 286-251 in EV vote.

If Kerry flipped Ohio (which was close), he wins.

That Dan Rather ploy -- using a fake, unauthenticated memo -- to smear Bush as a draft-dodging National Guard slacker was rough stuff. If unaddressed, it could have tipped the scales of a close election. In 2000, a last minute disclosure of a Bush drunk driving citation probably cost him the popular vote.

Thank God for the internet!

CNN, like all insitutions and organization's, is really just a bunch of people. Sorry Citizens United ruling haters.

And where do these CNN people come from? They are the products of a very defined, mature pipeline which has created a homogeneous viewpoint group which completely lacks any diversity of opinion or externally driven adaptive capabilities.

This sclerotic pipeline which gives us the blitzers, the Stelters, all the other pajama boy lefties is so rigid that the people emerging from it can only double and triple down on what little they already know.

These people will not adapt because they cannot adapt. They are automatons.

So, massive organization's with feet of clay where the "elites" and decision makers have been generally exposed as incompetent. Worse, these media Orgs are in service to supposed govt elites that have also been exposed.

Thats how you got Trump and would have gotten Bernie (for better or worse) had the Dems not hacked their own primary to nominate the biggest establishment figure of all, Hillary.

CNN has already lost the fight on several fronts and they won't recover. Their prestige is gone. The incompetence of their "journalists" is widely perceived. Their bias towards in side is undeniable and generally accepted.

Ask yourself this: what would "recovery" for CNN look like and how would you get from here to there? (The actual steps and desired outcomes)

It's not the error, it's the refusal to check that makes them untrustworthy.

Memes have a much longer shelf life than the news story of the day, to quote Richard Dawkins, "The longer a meme stays in its hosts, the higher its chances of propagation are. When a host uses a meme, the meme's life is extended." We may not rickroll people anymore but everyone remembers what rickrolling is because it was a popular meme. Hundreds of millions viewed Rick Astley's music video, it changed his life. It will be interesting to see how long this meme survives and what damage it does in the long run.

I'd be open -- interested, really -- in a serious discussion of the facts of this case by knowledgeable legal experts. But even Althouse seems completely disinterested in such a discussion. Instead, it is all about cheap, emotional political messaging and signaling.

An interesting somewhat corollary that may be happening is that a lot of Gen Z, successors to the Millennials, are reacting to and rebelling against the PC so strongly embraced by the preceding generation. The left, the Dems, are the staus quo now, and how can you rebel against such, by staying on tha authoritarian left? Esp after the Millennials who rebelled by going even more statist/authoritarian and politically correct?

Back when I was in HS and college (late 1960s through early 1970s), we rebelled with, sex, drugs, rock n'roll, as well as political protests against the Vietnam War, for Civil Rights, etc. CNN (along with much of the rest of the MSM) is part of the establishment, and that is, I think, a big part of why these memes have taken off - they are ways to rebell against the establishment.

Yep. That's why I don't get the millennials. They (the politicized ones, anyway) are so slavishly conformist that they make the Man in the Gray Flannel Suit look like a wild eccentric. mockturtle: "Fox would never have succeeded had there not been an obvious problem."

Great example of the previous points.

Fox News was an adaptive and disruptive answer to Chucks beloved lefty-dominated MSM. It was wildly successful and still is, despite the boycotts since most of the FOX revenue stream is built into the subscriber base and is unaffected by the boycotts.

However, even Fox itself is ripe for an attack by an insurgent conservative news outlet and I bet it won't be long before someone makes a strong attempt to steal it all away with a new approach.

Bruce Hayden म्हणाले...

@Chuck - not sure what you mean by no evidence. CNN very publicly disclose the identity (dox) the one guy if he didn't behave in the future. Or, at least that is how many read the last line of their statement. Was it legally blackmail? Maybe under both/either GA (CNN headquarters) and NY law. Will they be charged, even if what they did was legally criminal? Highly unlikely. They have the deep pockets, ink by the barrel, etc, as well as connections with many of the powerful around the country, and around the world.

As for your #fakenews - are you arguing that the MSM, with CNN somewhat in the lead, haven't been pushing the Russian interference/collaboration meme for all it's worth, despite not finding any real Trump culpability after better than a year, to the detriment of covering a lot of real news (esp positive stories about Trump)? Why is the (alleged) coordination among those right wing parties any worse than the incestuous relationship between the MSM and powerful Dem politicians and power brokers?

Jaq म्हणाले...

They published a threat: don't do it again, don't do anything else we don't like, or we'll out you.

Forget it - most of those positions were already filled by Boomers (like Ann), and only now (for the Millennials) are freeing up a bit, as the Boomers finally retire. Corporate VPs? Same dynamic. They swerved right, because they didn't know see themselves having the luxury of leftism, as the Boomers had. Maybe think of it this way - generations that benefit from statism tend to be more statist and leftist, while the generations stuck behind the leftist generations move to the right due to the previous generation's ultimate authoritarian statism.

Just like I never would condone attacking 11 year old boys by repeatedly calling them autistic over and over and over--that's totally beyond the pale! It would be like me accusing Sarah Palin of targeting Democrats by putting crosshairs over them! Such an action like what Sarah Palin did was horrible, but I would never say she did anything wrong by targeting Democrats for murder by putting crosshairs over them! And I never, ever would support the Democrats busting down doors like the esteemed prosecutor in Wisconsin did to evil Tea Party/Scott Walker supporters who totally should have expected being punished for daring to disagree with the left! I mean, sure, busting down doors at 3 AM for political crimes is bad, we all know that-- but look what they were doing! Who could blame the prosecutor for loud, public intimidation of Republicans and conservatives? I mean, I don't support it... but they should have expected it! It's their fault for being a Republican in a Democrat controlled area--you have to expect that your life will be ruined by the left, who of course are right to be outraged at Trump!"

CNN and others use this exact reasoning: "Of course we aren't biased; it just so happens reality is on the left and of course Tea Party and Trumpists are literally Hitlerian, so no sin is too bad to go after them."

This attack on CNN is just like Pizzagate:

https://www.conservativereview.com/articles/reliable-sources-cnnblackmail-was-far-right-narrative

But ask Oliver Darcy and that simple fact of reading comprehension is a “far-right narrative,” as he told Brian Stelter.

“One thing that struck me Tuesday night was how the narrative about this story was set by individuals on the far-right. Before it received criticism from conventional critics, prominent far-right personalities worked to get ‘#CNNBlackmail’ trending on Twitter. From there, the narrative seeped into the mainstream.”

Stelter then quotes a tweet by BuzzFeedNews’ Deputy News Director Tom Namako comparing the numerous conservative journalists who expressed outrage at CNN’s story to the internet trolls who pushed the #PizzaGate conspiracy theory.

.Two weeks ago, when he was asked during a radio interview about whether or not he is supported by African-Americans, he sparked another firestorm when he blurted: “I have a great relationship with the blacks. I’ve always had a great relationship with the blacks.” Trump’s comments were “highly offensive,” Walter Fields, former head of NAACP New Jersey, told Capital New York.

Trump styles himself a modern-day beacon of racial sensitivity, often discussing the importance of the civil-rights movement. In his 2000 political manifesto, “The America That We Deserve,” Trump outlined his dream of an America unencumbered by “racism, discrimination against women, or discrimination against people based on sexual orientation.” He once donated office space to Jackson’s civil rights group, the Rainbow/PUSH Coalition, he likes to pal around with African-American celebrities such as P. Diddy and Lenny Kravitz and he once hosted an NAACP convention party.

Boy, I'd hate to be on the same side waging Jihad. What does everyone think? Should we join forces with the Islamists and wage Jihad against Trump and America?

I personally think it sure is great to be on the opposite side of the Islamists, not their allies in waging Jihad against Trump and America.

Noted leftist Chris Cizzilla quickly tried to claim Jihad is wonderful and not just sawing off heads..... I'm sure there will be a stampede of people claiming Jihad is really wonderful now that consistently targeting Trump is labeled "Jihad."

The "jihad" resistance meme is also a loser for the left, and the MSM. I understand how they got there - one definition of Jihad is "resistance" and Muslims are the new Blacks, competing with Transvestites for being the group with the highest victimization score. But most of the country isn't buying in, remembers 9/11/91, the killings at the gay nightclub, and other Muslim terrorism. If they would assimilate and disavow terrorism, I think that Muslims would be accepted just fine, but so many don't, with a large minority supporting Muslim terrorism and Sharia law. And, as long as that is the case, the bulk of Americans are not going to accept them, as they are. If they want to come here, they need to live by our rules, not theirs. And, thus, tying the Resistance to Jihad is counterproductive for the Dems, the MSM, and the rest of the left - but a connection that the MSM is probably incapable of resisting, nthanks to their political correctness and statist outlook.

Everybody understands this, right?

It's like the old days in Europe, when a person of aristocratic birth could beat a commoner with a cane or whatever was hand for "insolence"! Those were the days for the elites, right CNN?

The whole Daily Caller article that came from is very sympathetic to CNN, and shows no effort on CNN's part to understand why the outcome was "the opposite" of their intentions, none. I am starting to come to the belief that, like Insty says, it's "status insecurity."

Meanwhile, it turns out that that story about the "document" that names "political figures". won't die... Leak says that Comey said the document was the reason he went public on Hillary. Lynch denied under oath that any such communication exists. FBI had it, now the Senate does, apparently.

he asked if Lynch had met with anyone on Hillary’s staff during the yearlong investigation, to which she replied: “I have not spoken to anyone on either the campaign or transition or any staff members affiliated with them.”

The committee, however, now knows of a document obtained by the FBI reportedly showing a Democratic operative’s claim that Lynch had privately assured Renteria that the Justice Department “would not push too deeply” into the investigation of Clinton’s private email server, which contained top secret information from the State Department.

And it will press her to explain the discrepancy — along with why she reportedly asked former FBI Director James Comey to leave her office when he confronted her with the document.
- NY Post

Maybe the Democrat media is happy to put a kick-me sign on CNN to distract from this story... One thing for sure, this story is either true or false, unlike the Trump/Russia thing, there is specific evidence which either does or does not exist.

Good post. Great idea.

Clearly, Ann has had enough of fights involving me. And doesn't want any more of it. Cleanups are time-consuming and probably dispiriting for her. There is no easy way for her to do it.

But in keeping with that desire, on the part of the proprietress of this blog, I can only say that I have been begging my detractors for months to just ignore me if they are simply going to start in with me on the basis of personal attacks.

Let's observe quite specifically that there are many long-time commenters here, who do not agree with me and who might even hate me, but they do not go into personal attacks. And they know better than anyone that they naturally get no personal back-and-forth from me. They are doing it just right.

The problem is with a specific (and, thankfully, credit to most who post here) small group. As Althouse would say, "[t]hey already know who they are."

I endorse your suggestion wholeheartedly; don't get into it with Chuck unless you are sticking strictly to the thread. Ignore Chuck if you don't like him.

Since you can easily see that would be an idiotic thing to do, you should conclude that we're not dealing with equivalents.
