Anyway, there's a new Katy Perry. She's rising about fakery:

I saw Katy Perry on her first tour as a band in the Warped Tour. It was before she emerged as a construct with her extravagant costumes and dance routines. Her band was really rock and roll and her songs were done in a rock and roll way. She sang without autotune and as really good. She was dressed like a farm wife with boots. Ha!
The working title of the album was "Whiteness", but she removed the 'h' 'e'.
Katy Perry is attractive and has large breasts. I guess her songs are OK -- whoever produces for her knows what sells. Her voice is just OK, nothing special. She won't be a star after age 35, which means no one will care what she thinks about politics or anything else. Madonna is a mediocre talent who has managed to stay somewhat relevant despite her fading looks, but even she has become quite sad and irrelevant in recent years. Katy Perry is no Madonna.
So it's periodic Reconstruction to keep the career on track.
So her new catchphrase is "I know nothing." Sgt. Schultz could not be reached for comment.

They tried that butch-haircut-with-lots-of-makeup look on Penny on "The Big Bang Theory" but they wised up pretty fast.
Katy Perry's music is hit and miss. She a pretty good pop singer but nothing extraordinary, somewhat similar to Britney Spears whose main draws were her looks and an above average singing voice. Many of her songs and music videos tend to rely heavily on shock value, especially explicit sexual content. A few of her big hits are so mediocre that I have no idea why they are popular. She's pretty much the definition of a manufactured pop star and is, in that regard, about as fake as they come. Maybe this is the real fake Kathy Perry now, for whatever that means.
What about the touching? I kinda wanted to hear more about the touching.

They're not fake, but they are meaningless.
Lots of artists/actors/performers are pretty strange people, but Katy Perry strikes me as one of the strangest. Good singer, nice to look at, still kinda weird. Nothing too surprising there, but the main takeaway, as usual, is the way the media normalizes this kind of weirdness and the influence that has on the culture at large.
There's no "real" Katy Perry. The woman being interviewed has fake hair, fake eyelashes and clothes provided someone else. The photographs of her are posed and do not reflect any version of reality. Her videos are filmed on a sound stage somewhere. Her lines are mostly rehearsed and in any event she has said the same thing to 50 other reporters. Her songs are written by someone(s) else.
Katy Perry was not, is not and will never be a real person. There is a real person being interviewed, but in a very literal sense she is not Katy Perry.
I won't pick on Katy Perry any more. She said in a recent interview "that God has His hand on me." She seems sincere. We'll see.
Reminds me of Fiona Apple's hilariously self-righteous hectoring during her Best New Artist VMA win back in 1997.
