Charging fearless bull girl dog pissing.

The actual sculptor of "Charging Bull" expressed his outrage at the "Fearless Girl"'s impinging on the space his bull needs to mean what he intends the bull to mean, and he (Arturo Di Modia) has chosen the litigation route. We talked about that here.

But there another path, one that free-speech advocate love: More speech.

So here comes another sculptor Alex Gardega adding another sculpture to the Bull + Girl set. He's installed "Pissing Pug" at the girl's feet:
“I decided to build this dog and make it crappy to downgrade the statue, exactly how the girl is a downgrade on the bull,” said Gardega....
He made it crappy and pissing, but it's not crapping. It's only pissing. It's "crappy" in that it's crudely made.

Gardega quote in the video: "I wanted it to be very lo-fi punk rock, so it would be a step down... The girl, in my mind, is a step down from the bull, and I wanted it to be a step down."

This is the maiden all forlorn
That milked the cow with the crumpled horn,
That tossed the dog,
That worried the cat,
That killed the rat,
That ate the malt
That lay in the house that Jack built.

Has Arturo Di Modica has chosen the litigation route, or has the threat of suit so far just been his form of speaking out?

This is an animal rights issue. The "fearless girl" statue was a feminist design to restrict the bull's liberty.

Meanwhile we are all enjoying our more-than-adequate pension, aren't we Ann. We hope no one pisses on that.

As performance art, it's been done...

Slightly off topic. A Nashville fan tossed a dead catfish onto the Pittsburgh Penguin ice surface Monday night during the game. PETA is involved (not kidding).

It would have been better to get a real dog to piss on it and then there'd be an endless parade of dogs doing the same.

Call it art.

Setting up a back channel with the bull, natch!

Personally, I love it. Public art is a conversation, and "Fearless Girl" was State Street's commercial scream for attention -- NOT a serious feminist statement. "Pissing Pug" is adding another, non-commercial point of view that is entirely appropriate in the circumstances.

Anyone who says, "You're not allowed to say that!" is part of the problem. We're not a high-brow culture, after all.

Bring on the bronze!

harrogate ayon kay ...

Next should be a sculpture of a dead homeless person, little off to the side of the spectacle.

Let's hope it doesn't work like the picture of Dorian Gray in reverse - the statue remains forever young, but the model for it now looks like Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

Amadeus 48 ayon kay ...

This is so cool--artistic tit-for-tat unafraid of feminist hectoring.
The "fearless girl" was an insult to the fundamental message of the charging bull--that optimism and prosperity are the answers to setbacks like the 1987 market crash. In real life, the "fearless girl" would be a fool whose negativity, stubbornness and obstructionism are about to be obliterated by the forces of vitality and dynamism represented by the bull.
A better opposition to the charging bull would have been a bear of similar proportions and vitality ready to battle the bull.
The pug peeing on the girl is a great send-up of the nonsense implicit in the "fearless girl" installation.

Fearless girl is the perfect symbol for feminists in this country. She acts fearless when there is no danger and it has nothing to do with anything she did.

If there is any actual oppression of women, sharia law for example, they are cowards.

It would have been better if the PR schmucks and their corporate backers who did the "fearless girl" campaign had done their own thing and not conceptually defaced charging bull to make their own half-baked "empowerment" statement.

Static Ping ayon kay ...

Considering that Fearless Girl is an advertising piece that is diminishing the Charging Bull by putting out of context, and Fearless Girl has been adopted as a rallying cause by stupid people who cannot figure out they are being manipulated when the company behind Fearless Girl admits that it is manipulating them, I think a little rude protest is in order.

Static Ping ayon kay ...

No, because "Fearless Girl" is about to become "Trampled to Death Girl". Fearless people are stupid and reckless. They soon get themselves killed, often taking others with them.

harrogate : "Next should be a sculpture of a dead homeless person, little off to the side of the spectacle."

Agreed....with the sign "resident of the Venezuelan Peoples Paradise" next to the homeless person.

Oh wait, we would need to have the homeless guy look A LOT skinnier, due to the rampant starvation.

DanTheMan ayon kay ...

Are "fearless girl" and "sketchy dog" in a public place? If so, can't anyone just remove them?
Or can I put my garbage can next to some statue and proclaim it untouchable art?

exiledonmainstreet, green-eyed devil ayon kay ...

"Or can I put my garbage can next to some statue and proclaim it untouchable art?"

Someone should do that with the statue of Lenin in Portland. Except the garbage can should go over his head.

"Hey, it's my artistic statement about Marxism!"

It's promising. Drawing a clown nose on a street mural featuring Che,marching in the Puerto Rican Day parade dressed as a blood splattered FALN terrorist...

Of course, it would be denounced as "hate speech."

The domesticated dog rebels in righteous empathy with the bull standing his ground against encroaching "fearless girl".

I like the idea of the dog. Originally someone had suggested a creepy Joe biden fondling the little girl and I still think that needs to be done.

Perhaps a whole sculpture garden.

it has been widely noted that "Fearless Girl" is a marketing gimmick for an index fund.

It has NOT been widely noted that the index fund -- SHE is the ticker symbol -- is an absolute stinker of an index fund, hugely under-performing the NASDAQ.

I reckon the moral of the story is that "Fearless Girl" has meaning and context only in relation to work done by a man.

BTW, the escalating art hot-takes would make for a great Dr. Seuss story.

Again, why doesn't somebody just pick these pieces up and walk off with them? The owner forfeits their property rights when they abandon them in a public place.

If I paint a picture and hang it on a tree in the park, I can't then call the police the next day and report it "stolen" if somebody walks off with it...

Well that depends. Was it liberal art or conservative trash? If it was conservative trash, it was just "cleaned up". If it was liberal art, you have destroyed a timeless masterpiece, the greatest in a generation, you philistine!

Oh and graffiti is art regardless of if it is defaced already or not. So watch you step bub...

...which is how the narrative gets written, quite independently of facts, in much the same way that the Jenner/Pepsi commercial is understood to be evidence of disastrous tone-deafness by Pepsi and the producers, despite the fact that surveys suggest most viewers were more positively disposed towards Pepsi after seeing the commercial than they were before it.

If it weren't for the dog hilariously rebutting the girl statue in the girl statue's own terms, the narrative would have been that the girl is a powerful rebuke to the long-hated bull statue, despite the fact that the bull statue has been popular from the beginning.
