Easter snuck up this year. There were no seasonal bunnies and chickens in the supermarket that I noticed. Even valentine's day was toned down except for guys buying flowers before going home after work, which is a needed public service.

Started to read a gossip piece about the WH in Vanity Fair and in the first paragraphs the term "white nationalist" appears. Where do they get this? Abandoned.

We are planning a nice brunch today. It is not at the restaurant where two men were shot to death Friday night. We had eaten there Thursday night.

It will be at another favorite spot, called WIldflower, appropriately enough.

My wife was talking to my daughter-in-law last week who said, "You are going to be alone on Easter?" She is still upset that we moved to Tucson. It reminds me of the couple watching the last child go off to college. She says, "You're all I have left." He says, "I'm all you had to start with."

A farm supply place had a sign saying "Chicks are here!" but it turned out they were just birds.

I suppose it's in contrast to the "mulatto anti-nationalist".

A friend was in Tuscon a couple of years ago for the gem show and the cook at a restaurant pulled a shotgun on him just because he and the waitress were pouring water on each other.

"just because he and the waitress were pouring water on each other."

Doesn't everyone do that in restaurants ?

Watched The Passion of The Christ last night with grand children. I forgot how many odd scenes Gibson had added. And the kids asked if Judas went to heaven. They felt sorry for him.

Noted. That all the damages suffered by Jesus were healed on Easter AM.

St. Petersburg Chamber Choir "Russian Easter" recommended for Easter morning. I notice a youtube upload available here. (Might want to turn your sound up at first; starts at low volume.)

Socially Awkward Guy Who Makes No Eye Contact says:

I'm not very religious, but I was born Catholic and still think of Jesus on Christmas and Easter. Christmas and Easter are hard days for me: I try not to think about peeing on girls -- it just seems wrong to think such things on these occasions, you know? -- but I can't help it. A day doesn't go by without me thinking about peeing on a girl, it's just who I am...

So I decided that at least I wouldn't watch any girls-being-peed-upon videos on the internet -- it's just one day, after all -- but I kinda failed at that one, too. I feel ashamed, like Jesus was watching me and shaking his head. But there was a new video with this girl who looked A LOT like the Girl With The Blue Hair Who Works At McDonald's -- what a Find! So even though I knew I shouldn't masturbate on Easter, I did that, too...twice...

I wonder what the girl being peed on in the video is doing on this Easter. Is she with Family? Who IS her family? Did her Father pee on her when she was a child? Maybe she's Jewish, and Easter means nothing to her. And if she IS Jewish, then watching her getting peed upon on Easter isn't such a Big Deal, really...

I think it would be harder to pee on a Jewish girl, because of those Concentration Camp things: I'm sensitive to that. I don't want someone to think I'm like a Nazi, although I HAVE watched videos of men dressed like Nazis peeing on girls...

Like no one else thinks these things.

I hope the Girl with the Blue Hair is working at McDonalds today.

I am Laslo.

I note that in the Berkley thread the usual suspects are making excuses for the leftist thugs and using their usual tactics-throwing so many lies, insults and stupid nonsense at commenters that it's impossible to respond to such malevolent dumbness coming at you from all directions. Its one big mass of Stupid. So don't try. It's Easter. Let self-described Christian and biblical authority Inga stew in her own hate and lies on Easter. The rest should enjoy this lovely day

mockturtle বলেছেন...

Inga is not a Christian but a pawn of Satan, a career provocateur. I just ignore her threads.

PS: In the movie The Passion of the Christ, Inga plays the Devil. Do you not recognize her?

Christus resurrexit de mortuis, yes, indeedy!

I love this, uhhhm, imaginative reconstruction of the Old Roman chant version of the Easter responsorium Alleluia Pascha nostrum. What the director, Marcel Peres, did is reconstruct an old Roman chant liturgy as if it were Byzantine chant. It's not totally out of the question, since there was much cross Greek/Latin church interchange in this period (i.e. Greek speaking popes, many Greek monastic communities in Italy who fled the Byzantine empire to get away from the iconoclast controversy). But, boy, does it kick butt! Not exactly the phrase that comes to mind when you hear the words "Gregorian chant".

mockturtle বলেছেন...

Alleluia Pascha nostrum.

Very nice, YH!

Marc in Eugene বলেছেন...

YH, that Ensemble Organum CD is on my list for listening to during the Octave. While I prefer the more developed form of the chants (as, e.g., at Solesmes) the beauty of the Pérès tracks so far surpasses the dross we endure at the parish church it makes one question the notion of progress (or would do, if that weren't an already suspect notion for a wide variety of other reasons).

YoungHegelian বলেছেন...

@MP,

Yeah, it's a paschal season favorite of mine, too.

It's too bad about Peres & the EO, though. This CD was the beginning of the end for him & me. Everything, & I mean everything, now got seen through the lens of that Corsican folk polyphony/Byzantine Greek vocal tone. When it worked, like for the Old Roman Chant, it worked. When it didn't it was like the local lumberjack glee club got together to sing Church polyphony.

That being said, the CD that they did in the 80's of an early polyphony Christmas liturgy from St. Martial de Limoges is one of my all time favorite CDs. However, there's a lot of the direction of Dominique Vellard on that disk, credited or not. Vellard & his group went on to do some kick-ass stuff themselves.

Ooops, sorry the link for the St. Martial stuff is wrong. Here's the correct link.

Marc in Eugene বলেছেন...

YH, Many thanks! I wonder often enough about the status of musicological studies in re the historic chant traditions but not enough to pursue the business much beyond liner notes. The O filii et filiae for the Easter season, from Vellard and the Ensemble Gilles Binchois CD Polyphonies oubliées: here at YouTube.

Ask Meade to consider planting tricytris in your yard. They are small flowers so best planted where you can see them close up, but they make stunning close up photos.

Thank everyone for the awesome selections of musiC!!

Michael K, wow, archetypal tragic story at that restaurant.

Laslo, you are so amazing, I have to thank you -- what a relief! -- that you did NOT write about pissing on Christ.
on this day, You take the piss that our current civilization is glad to put Him in, take it away from Him and put it somewhere where someone may want it, thank goodness. [and Every blessing on blue haired girls everywhere.]

good article in WSJ says that most western languages use a version of Passover for their word, in Spanish it is Pascua. How cool that our word Easter is from the German: resurrection.

all things made new, baby. eternal return and start anew

happy easter, all.

@MP,

Great find on the fauxbourdon CD! I'm gonna order that post-haste from our hostesses' Amazon portal.

At the 4:30 "lazy bum's mass" at the National Shrine in DC, I was struck yet again by the beauty & variety of the women. Yes, I know, that's "occasion of sin" kinda thought, but, no, it didn't go there. It being a holy day mass at a large parish in a major metropolitan area, it was just a United Nations of races & ethnicities. I thought to myself that if there are young men out there who seek a bride, I have but one word of advice:

Convert!

mockturtle বলেছেন...

Thanks, Michael. I have been to the Wildflower. I have friends in Tucson and my daughter and I were there two weeks ago. My home is not in Tucson, however.

Q: How did your floor turn out?

Also, thank you again for the recommendation for Paris in the Terror. I'm nearly finished [alas!] but have enjoyed it very much.

Marc in Eugene বলেছেন...

YH, Know exactly what you mean about the very diverse congregations that attend at the National Shrine. Conversion does indeed have many & various causes! :-)

Used to live in NE DC but most often went to St Mary Mother of God in Chinatown to hear Mass in the Old Rite. My recollection is that Fr H. there sounds almost exactly like Dale Gribble in King of the Hill.

The next book I will recommend is Citizens, by Schama, It is longer but good.

For those who want an easy intro to the revolution, I recommend Sabatini's novel, Scaramouche.

The history is good and like many good historical novels (I am reading Cornwell's Richard Sharpe series) it gives you the history in a painless way. I got interested in Greek history from Mary Renault's novels.

Michael K বলেছেন...

The floor is still ongoing. Almost finished, then we do the doors and windows in two weeks, then replaster the pool in late May.

By June we should be done.

Michael K বলেছেন...

Floor update.

mockturtle বলেছেন...

Looks great, Michael. I will look for Citizens. And, if you've never read it, I still highly recommend Thomas Carlyle's The French Revolution. Complex but well worth getting into it. Very long.
