1) I lived a few blocks away from that school for 20 years before moving to Atlanta in 2006. It was a decent, middle-class neighborhood - one of the better neighborhoods in San Bernardino. However, we still had police helicopters flying overhead every evening. There's no way I would live in San Bernardino again. 2) I'm curious to watch for President Trump's response to the shootings. These are the type of tragedies that President Obama was quick to inject his "wisdom" and attempt to score political points for gun control or racial discontent. Trump would be wise to limit his comments to sympathy for the community and support for law enforcement.
The passenger may have responded poorly - triggering the police response, but United will end up paying far more - and far longer - than any voucher they could have offered to open up a few seats.
The officers - presumably belonging to the city - screwed up big time. United apparently had offered up to $800 for volunteers, and probably should have gone higher before resorting to the lottery thing, but it was their airplane. The good doctor decided to act like a jackass and was treated as one.
The look on his smug assholian face as they dragged him off was plenty to make me sympathize with the employees who had the bad luck to run into that jerkwad.
Piling on the passenger to absolve the airline is not the answer. The man didn't board the plane looking for trouble. By all accounts his behavior was exemplary until he was put upon by the huns. But even then, the targeted passenger only defended his seat. Not until the brown shirts became aggressive and belligerent, did the passenger strongly object.
Meanwhile, I smell the makings of a class-action here.
I'd have to guess magnolia 'Elizabeth.' This is a great light yellow deciduous magnolia for me here in TN. Blooms much later (barely in bud today) than the soulangeana hybrids which bloom too early here and have been nipped by a late frost every one of the four years I've been down here. Fully hardy up into WI as well.

When it comes to guns, it must be incredibly frustrating for the Left that on that one topic, at least, the American public remains remarkably resistant to their indoctrination.
Uh oh—the doctor dragged off the United plane was a felon who has a history of anger control problems and traded prescription painkillers for secret gay sex with a patient half his age.

Am I the only one who thinks that the passenger on United had it coming and was way worse than unreasonable.

I need to add that to the next post.

Lady Althouse, the flower pics are terrific. I especially like the one with the little bug going nicely about its business.
Life affirming.
"Regarding the San Bernardino school shooting:"
The LA Times was on the case, and edited the story to omit a few details.
He also had a lengthy criminal history of arrests for weapons, drug possession, and domestic violence, LA Times social media intern.
But, you see, it's all about guns. "Fuck the NRA."

Narrative interruptus.
