What a week. If this keeps up, Trump will be having every knee bow to him. And that could cause PTSD among many in the Globalist owned World Media.

China is in.

Russia is out.

The Euro Union is almost withered away.

Also nearly withered away are old Trump loyalists: Lewindowski, Christie, Priebus, Ryan, Bannon, Flynn, and Palin.

Let's hope Gorsuch remembers who brung him to the dance.

Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego (aka Barack Hussein O)? And John F. Kerry? Strangely silent, they are.

At least Hillary surfaced, if only to blame the Russians, Comey, WikiLeaks and misogyny for her grim election performance.

@FareedZakaria on Syria strikes:"I think Donald Trump became President of the United States" last night.

Ok, they are ice-skating in hell today, because I find myself agreeing with something Fareed Zakaria has to say about the Syria strikes.

But seriously... My initial reaction to the strikes was that I was ready start an anti-war drum circle, just me and the dog, in my living room. ( I really don't know the dog's politics, but I know she'll do whatever I do.) But after I calmed down, I said the same thing to my husband that Zakaria said above.

Mayor of Seattle accused of sexual abuse; having a blast reading lefty media tiptoe around this, in contrast to when theyjump all over anyone to the right of the political spectrum accused of such before the facts are in. When sexual abuse comes from the left, you need to be EXTRA careful to review all the evidence, don't you know? Innocent until proven guilty when its your side.

Long time reader, first time commenter. I have a question for someone with access to the OED. What is the difference between a "peer" and a "compeer"? I never heard of the word "compeer" until recently, when I encountered it as a company name. I thought it was a made-up word, but I am reading "Uncle Tom's Cabin" and the word "compeer" is used three times in the book. Seems to mean the same as "peer" as far as I can tell. The great Internet is not helpful in telling me the difference between the two words.

I was against Trump using military force 24 hours ago. Then he did it. Then I warmed to the idea. Then I found out McCain and Schumer and Fareed were for it so I cooled a bit. Then I read Ann Coulters take and found myself reacting to her and so I warmed a bit. Then I listened to .......

Well, you get the point. Rand Paul doesn't convince me. Bill Mitchell doesn't convince me. Nobody convinces me.

But Assad does deserve it. And Trump may have turned a corner in this action by getting at least one day where the media didn't shat on him all day.

I support the Supreme Court hearing cases & controversies. If, in doing so, it is determined that a particular law or executive action conflicts with the Constitution, then prohibiting the enforcement of the law seems like a reasonable resolution.

Where the rebels screwed-up, was when they captured territory, and began thinking they were building a new nation.

This is the failure of all insurgencies. If you want to bring down a government, you have to wait till the leadership of the opposition is dead or on the run.

The experts we had in the CIA are all gone. What's left is the fortress types. These are the fuckers who lost the war in Afghanistan and Iraq. You can't build forts. If you build a fort, you are building a target, and targets get attacked.

When the special forces and CIA guys landed in Afghanistan, they immediately backed the opposition, and then gave them air support. The war was won. Then the US Army came in and started building forts. It all went down hill after that. Forts need supply lines. The supply line was from the ports of Karachi. Yep, stupid.

The stupid rebels set up towns and they set up targets. The dictator was not dead or on the run, he was eating their f'n lunch.

So anyway, how do we win in Syria? Easy. We target the leadership, and we kill them and then we kill every swinging dick helping them, or let them flee. I'd tell them they have a month to flee, and then we are going to kill them all.

I'm talking weapons and snipers who will tear them a new asshole.

This $120 million dollar air base attack is bullshit. It changes zero percent of the leadership in power. That's $60 million for the salvo, and $60 million to rearm.

You can buy a lot of snipers for $120 million.

David Brooks is not impressed:
"Up until this period I had always thought of ignorance as a void, as an absence of knowledge. But Trump’s ignorance is not just an absence; it is a rich, intricate and entirely separate universe of negative information, a sort of fertile intellectual antimatter with its own gravitational pull.

It’s not so much that he isn’t well informed; it’s that he is prodigiously learned in the sort of knowledge that doesn’t accord with the facts of our current dimension."

"antimatter with its own gravitational pull."

That's awesome. I'd love to see an entire NYT piece (not a column) re antimatter and the gravitational forces assumed to be associated w/ it.

Until then, good for Brooks for not being too much of a hack re antimatter.

Lewis Wetzel বলেছেন...

When a pundit writes anything that makes a pro or con argument about a politician, I look at the quality of their argument, and then look at their qualifications. If Andy McCarthy says the JD is doing something stupid, I give it some weight, even if that is the totality of his argument. If Andy McCarthy says that it is stupid to use worms for bait when you are fishing, and that is totality of his argument, I pretty much ignore it as noise.
So you can imagine how much weight I give David Brooks argument when he writes about Trump. Or Obama. Or anything to do with politics.
He has been lousy wrong in the past, and his arguments consist of assertions that he is now right.

Syria is not going away. Syria is just the bone everybody is fighting over.
Russia wants a land corridor to the Mediterranean as does Iran plus getting Hezbollah to the Israeli border, and Turkey is not going to want either of them in any part of the old Ottoman empire, which Erdogan would like to reestablish for himself and his heirs.

In the old days, Germany, Great Britain, and France would get together and tell everybody to back off or risk a war with the united "Great Powers."
Today, that would be the U.S. and China, but can that happen?

Humperdink বলেছেন...

Brook's credibility, such as it was, evaporated at the mention of the crease in Obama's slacks.

Mr. Majestyk বলেছেন...

I don't get the argument that the Constitution does not allow for judicial review. The Constitution vests the Judicial power in the Supreme Court (and such inferior courts as Congress may establish). The Judicial power necessarily involves deciding what the law is. How could a court adjudicate a case without knowing what the law is? If the Supreme Court decides that the Constitution says X and that a statute says Not X (or vice versa), then, by virtue of the Supremacy Clause (which provides that the Constitution is the Supreme law of the land), the Court may (actually must) declare that the statute conflicts with the Constution (i.e., declare the statute to be unconstitutional).

Last fall, in the aftermath of Trump's election, Brooks wrote a column calling for a "party of the center." Trouble with that idea is that there really is a party of the center -- it's the GOP minus the Republican NeverTrumpers.

If Brooks didn't want Trump in 2016 he needed to strongly back Romney in 2008. Nothing else was going to work.

I do not believe the constitution says that laws are subject to judicial review, other than on a case-by-case basis. If congress wrote a law saying that marriage in the US was restricted to one man and one woman, and that this law was immune to to supreme court review, it wouldn't be a constitutional amendment. A later congress could change the law. If the SC threw it out, there goes your "separate but equal" pablum.
But I will bow to the far, far greater knowledge of Althouse when it comes to the constitution . . .

I was imagining what was said over the Mar-a-Lago dinner table, specifically how President Trump informed his Chinese counterpart about the strike against Assad. So, just as Xi Jinping took his first bite of perfectly aged all-American steak, his mouth then full, President Trump leaned over and whispered:

"I thought you should know, we just bombed the rice out of Syria."

Judicial Review as a Supreme Court monopoly power was found by Marshall in his Judicial review of a dispute between an outgoing President and his successor. The Costitution starts out having to be interpreted in real disputes between factions. Ergo: It matter which side the Justice wills to support. All of the talk is smoke and mirrors. And Gorsuch does that really well. But I want him to uphold the Second Amendment no matter how well he does smoke and mirrors allowing him to take either side.

Somehow this week as I briskly moved from the Supreme Court nomination to the meaning of China trade discussions to the gas attack by Assad to the "red line" to the 59 cruise missiles and some other issues raised by "my President" (who I totally support), somehow I kept remembering those morning walks with "my dog."

Judicial Review as a Supreme Court monopoly power was found by Marshall in his Judicial review of a dispute between an outgoing President and his successor.

The creation of judicial review was a total scam by Marshall.

Marshall was the Secretary of State under Adams from June 30, 1800 until March 4, 1801 when the Jefferson administration took office.

Marshall was approved by the Senate to be the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court on January 27, 1801. He began acting as the Chief Justice on February 4, 1801.

So for a month he was both the Secretary of State and the Chief Justice.

During this month Marbury was appointed as a Justice of the Peace for the District of Columbia. It was Marshall's job as Secretary of State to deliver Marbury's commission to him...but somehow he forgot to do so, and Madison refused to do so when he replaced Marshall as Secretary of State.

Thus the controversy that led to the case of Marbury V Madison which allowed Marshall to create judicial review in such a way that no one would challenge him, was created by Marshall (on purpose?) while he was simultaneously Chief Justice and Secretary of State.

Could you imagine this happening today?
