"With their swollen toe boxes and jouncy heels, they have the look of water beetles or licorice jelly beans."

"I’ve come to not just tolerate Dansko clogs, but actually consider them beautiful — a kind of appreciation usually reserved for natural objects like pine cones or elk antlers. Dansko clogs have a tool-like utility; if the Whole Earth Catalog were still around, surely it would stock them. I truly believe that the Museum of Modern Art should acquire a pair for its permanent collection."

Nice to find an article about Dansko clogs in the NYT Style Magazine.

The author, Alice Gregory, has had 6 pairs of Dansko clogs in a period of 15 years.

I discovered Dansko clogs just about as soon as they came out, which was in 1990. I still have the original pair — in sand-colored suede — and almost my other pairs, which would be difficult to count. Let's see... I think 16 — with 4 no longer in rotation.

I can get extremely brand-loyal when it comes to clothes. In the early 90s, I became an devotee of the clothing brand CP Shades, and I first saw Dansko clogs at a CP Shades store in Chicago. The saleswoman said they'd never carried any shoes before, and now, for the first time, there was a shoe that belonged with their clothes. That's how I got hooked.

Here'sa link to buy Dansko shoes at Amazon.

These shoes are great for: 1. standing, and 2. kicking off and slipping back into. So they work extremely well if you have a job where you don't really walk that much but you do stand and sit a lot and you like to get your shoes off when you sit.

I don't know Annie, not sure about the clogs at Amazon. Maybe your suede clogs are cuter. I've got hello kitty pink clog crocs. They are perfect for home. Only kids wear 'em outside. Are you sure ? How 'bout a pair of cowboy boots, trendy for the 21st century. Closed heal clogs seem a tad outdated. Woolf says "wardrobe malfunction". No offense intended.

Women's shoes, gotta be sexy right? Don't click through, it's a trap`!

They are the fugliest shoes, but so comfortable. Not bad for short walks either.

They're fine for walking a mile. Not what you'd want for 4 miles. Use your judgment.

If you really like women, you think they look sexy in hiking boots, right?

If you don't agree, I feel sorry for you.

You can like women and still think they don't look "Sexy" in particular kinds of shoes and apparel. In fact, you can like women and not think them "Sexy" at all. Like your Mother.

Personally, when I look at women, I rarely look at their shoes or boots. My gaze is elsewhere.

I got a pair when I was in a short leg walking cast. They are about the right height to balance. But I found they were good for my rigid big toe. They are not as comfortable if you have young feet with no arthritis.

In the Philippines they are traditional, ancient and called "bakya".
These seem simply like American "bakya".

Bakya - http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_4yvx4jAjdyA/SFv_IZUkhfI/AAAAAAAAADA/oKeNajCR5PA/s320/bakya.jpg

Bakya is the traditional peasant woman/townswoman native footwear. The sort of thing a public market vendor, or most of her housewife customers would wear. The unsophisticated lower orders once were referred to in the press as the "bakya crowd".

Look like Crocs. Ugly and functional. The cargo shorts of footwear.

I recommend the Stegmann wool clogs, also. I believe they cured my crippling plantar fasciitis. Also, though I don't know why, they are cool in the summer and warm in the winter.

Women in Danskos men in shorts, what difference, at this point, does it make?

All nurses wear Danskos.

Jaq said...

I used to wear them, not with the back, because they were one of the few shoes that seemed made for my wide Dutch feet. Some people thought I was gay, but if they had the same problem finding shoes as I did...

I still wear Crocs around the house and places where I am not walking far. They are also great for walking to the hot tub through snow. You can wear them right in.

Ann-

Funny you should mention how men, if they love women, should love women in hiking boots.

I agree.

I saw a photograph a while back, don't remember where, of a woman out on a mountain hike - Wearing boots with woolies mid calf, shorts, long sleeved top and I thought she was the sexiest thing I'd seen in a long time. What legs...

Probably took me back to my college days hiking in the Adirondacks with some comely co-eds.

16 pairs of clogs, Imelda?

oh dear, women and their love affair with shoes, something i'll never understand.

I don't think the clogs are at all ugly, or even unattractive. They're cute.

What I do think are the ugliest footwear ever are Birkenstocks. I get that they're supposed to be comfortable, but they are just ugly

Other shoes that everyone seems to think are sexy on women but that I also find totally unacceptable are your standard spike heels. Just, no.

MadisonMan said...

My wife likes them, has a pair or two.

16 pair seems like overkill to me.

What's wrong with clogs?

See, Robert, you can be reasonable!

Sigh...but not for long.

OK, I'll play, is it the height or the spike that upsets you? They have what I think are called wedges which are like high heels but a solid base, no heel, everything under the footbed is solid shoe sole. Is that better?

I've heard that Danskos are popular with restaurant cooks and my dentist ex-brother-in-law also loves them.

Sam's Hideout said...

Keen shoes also have large toe boxes, just be careful that they run small, i.e. I wear 8.5 in most Keens but 7.5 in other manufacturers.

Anthony said...

Well, they're about a hundred times better than Birkenstocks anyway. . . . . . .

Okay, that's going a bit too far.

More like one billion times better than Birkenstocks.

Anthony said...

But don't wear them with skirts. That's just gross.

Dansko is not the quality clog it used to be when they were made by Sanita. They're made in China now. Sanita is still made in Europe.

I LOVE my Danskos. Other than boots, they're all I wear during the winter, either black or brown. Every two years or so, I replace one color, then alternate the next year with the other. Danskos in the winter, Minnetonka's in the summer. Obvs. not a "shoe girl"
