What I have trouble understanding is why this is such a big deal when the females posed for the photos. I am not aware that any were taken with "secret cameras" or the like. I understand the anger at sharing but this is a social trend these days.
After years of insisting that the military abide by the same standards as civilians on matters of sexual conduct, it is now somehow shocking to learn that the military abides by the same standards as civilians on matters of sexual conduct.
I can no longer sit back and allow Russian infiltration, Russian indoctrination, Russian subversion and the international Russian conspiracy to sap and impurify all of our precious bodily fluids.
Let's see. We have a bunch of young, fit, aggressive men, and we throw in with them a bunch of young, fit, aggressive women, and we expect that everyone will behave himself/herself. No sexual activity at all. Right?
I don't know whether integrating women into the armed forces is a good idea or not, but I do know that if you do it you're going to get some f*cking in the ranks. If you want the first, you're going to have to expect the second.
Ok, it's wrong, but my outrage mechanism is more wired to feel outrage at those who would ruin the lives or careers of young men who committed this offense than at the offense itself. Full disclosure: I looked at Jennifer Lawrence's naked photos.
tcrosse said... I might worry more if these guys were sharing nude photos of other guys, not that there's anything wrong with that.
Well, since the repeal of DADT I'm certain of two things: 1) there are military personnel exchanging same-sex nudes; and 2) nobody in the media will pursue that angle of the story or, indeed, consider it a problem worth reporting.
All this will do is piss us off. Grunts are used to getting crapped on. It just seems like we are taking it in stride. We aren't just so you know. The veteran community is not happy. Especially with the VA and the feds and it is very much an us vs. them situation.
It is funny being a vet and listening to people say they want to hire vets and they want to support vets and all of that garbage. But when we get there it becomes clear they don't want us around. Oh sure we can be there if we shut up and don't act like vets.
Based on my times when I worked on projects in the Pentagon, I can confidently assert that, woman for woman, female enlisted marines are the most physically fit, most physically attractive females in the known universe. Women in the navy -- officers and enlisted alike -- are right behind (no pun; get your minds out of the gutter).
But I gather that many of the pictures were taken surreptitiously, and with neither knowledge nor consent. And that's not at all consistent with the sense of honor of the marines.
There is a simple solution to the problem, one that I taught my kids. It works for most people. Would have ensured that the activities at Abu Ghraib would never have come to light.
Never take a picture of anything or allow someone to take a picture of you that you wouldn't want your grandmother to see.
Like I said, works for most people. But there are some grandmothers out there I have my doubts about...
Last retail job I worked at part time all the single guys had all the women ranked and compared their rankings. Nothing written- they were bright enough for that. Several of the young women talked freely to me. Somewhat too freely as far as my wife was concerned, but that's another story. They had all the guys ranked for all the same reasons. They also had a second ranking. The would he make a good husband list. The two didn't necessarily, well didn't at all, coincide.
The current rate of pregnancy among deployed female sailors is 10%. During the Gulf War, the first war after female saileres were allowed aboard ship, the rate was 25 %. Contraception, is of course free.
If the pictures were posed willingly (and not from, say, a hidden locker room camera), this barely constitutes a scandal. In this day and age you have to realize any pictures you pose for are going to end up on the internet. It's as inevitable as gravity.
The military scores an own goal, like at a kids soccer game.
Having had a secret group exposed, it's easy to believe there must be more. Good luck with working back that PR damage, especially among the young, many of whom have sex selfies already in exes hands.
To those who have sent or received more tham a few, this is a huge breach in behavior. As Anthony Weiner reminds us, there's a lot of those folks out there.
Boys will be boys. I have always thought that sexual integration of the military would present problems stemming from human nature that would tear up the rulebook. Here we go...
"Boys will be boys", etc... Am I the only guy here who finds this behavior disgusting and worthy of punishment? What if your daughter or loved one joined the armed services out a sense of duty and love of country and instead had her nude pics passed around? What the fuck is wrong with ya'll?
Well, Nyamujal, what did you think was going to happen when you threw 18-25 year-olds into physical proximity 24/7? The same thing that happens in colleges and universities every week-end? The same thing that has been making the the world go around for eons? What did you think was going to happen? What happens at your local high school?
People like you who think people follow the rulebook are fools. People follow human nature.
The Nyamujal crew wants condoms handed out to middle schoolers (since apparently no one can control themselves), birth control and trips to abortionists for high schoolers without parental knowledge (since apparently no one can control themselves), and all manner of inappropriate things taught to children as young as 5.
But oh man, let some sex charged warriors who fight and die share some nude pics which is unavoidable when you put both genders in close proximity but will nevertheless be addressed by higher ups, well then. Apparently this is simply too much for him.
I got news for you snowflake, you'd just better hope these young ones aren't captured by the Lefts beloved Islamists because when they are you see all too clearly then what true animal behavior looks like.
"let some sex charged warriors who fight and die share some nude pics which is unavoidable when you put both genders in close proximity"
Obviously, the only sane, humane, and progressive solution to this disgusting lapse is to chemically castrate the oversexed, hormone-soaked males who join the military. We must not let one more female officer's career be tragically cut short by a thoughtless selfie!
@Amadeus48 and @Drago Simple though experiment: Imagine someone, without your knowledge or permission, put up a camera at your YMCA or gym and then shared videos or pictures of you on the web. Imagine there's a message board where women share and make fun of your bodies and penises. Would you be fine with that?
"People like you who think people follow the rulebook are fools. People follow human nature."
You really have to be foolish if you think institutions with rigid rules and sense of order are OK with people following "human nature".
"The Nyamujal crew wants condoms handed out to middle schoolers (since apparently no one can control themselves), birth control and trips to abortionists for high schoolers without parental knowledge (since apparently no one can control themselves), and all manner of inappropriate things taught to children as young as 5."
Bad strawman. But I hope you realize the difference between invading an individual's privacy, and giving an individual a choice or access to contraceptives.
"I got news for you snowflake, you'd just better hope these young ones aren't captured by the Lefts beloved Islamists because when they are you see all too clearly then what true animal behavior looks like."
So, it's OK to engage in gross behavior because the Islamists are worse? Is that the point you're trying to make here?
"Obviously, the only sane, humane, and progressive solution to this disgusting lapse is to chemically castrate the oversexed, hormone-soaked males who join the military. We must not let one more female officer's career be tragically cut short by a thoughtless selfie!"
Because the choice is really that binary - Castration or sexual harassment. Surely we shouldn't expect a higher standard of behavior from men. Jesus fucking Christ man...you people...
I will make one further attempt at a thoughtful comment.
Speaking as someone who has never been in the military, the 'sexting' scandal seems like a bad thing. It's a bad thing in multiple ways: 1. At the tip of the iceberg is the scandal itself. The systemic harassment of soldiers by other soldiers can't not hurt organizational effectiveness. 2. On top of that, whatever response the leadership comes up with will, pretty much by definition, be draconian, which will also hurt effectiveness; 3. Based on things I've read, the personnel in the military are no less sex-obsessed than any similar population of young people, and therefore whenever the opportunity to engage in such behavior presents itself, many personnel do so, regardless of rules. The consequences of this behavior frequently are disruptive and harmful to organizational effectiveness; 4. Thus my fundamental take-away is that integrating women into the military renders these sorts of scandals inevitable. Expecting otherwise is getting mad at the fox for eating your chickens when you were just certain they could all live in the same henhouse.
Nyamujal, Amadeus pointed this out, but you missed his point. Of course the military has rules against this sort of thing. But this sort of thing goes on all the time, and much worse besides, because that's what humans do.
It is obvious that this represents a failure of the Obama administration. He was Commander in Chief when the marines were posting the images. You know if there was ANY POSSIBLE WAY this cold be blamed on Trump, it would be blamed on Trump.

The Defense Department is investigating online outlets through which Marines shared nude photographs of women, including fellow Marines -- some taken without their knowledge.
How many of the photos were taken through peep holes in restroom walls?
I'll bet not many. The vast majority of these photos, I'll bet, were taken by boy friends or by the girls themselves.
This is the world we live in. The Army trainee scandals of a few years ago were involving girls in basic training who were fucking drill instructors to curry favor or just because they wanted to.

That's what I am hearing here. Classic slur shaming. Not going to look good for the military.
Also, just about every workplace has 18-25 year olds of mixed genders working in close proximity these days ... yet it's the military that is having this problem isn't it?
@Paco Wove, thoughtful comment, but there are a couple things you missed. First of all, the Middle East and Afghanistan being what they are, every soldier, airman, and marine lives with the understanding that one week from now they might get orders to a combat zone, and days after that they might be dead. Can you imagine what that does to one's desire to mate?
Second, there's a lot of truth in the notion that women love a man in uniform. I was a Vietnam-Era grunt, and, yeah, the sort of unmade-up, unwashed hair, braless hippie chicks were calling us baby-rapers and worse, but even back then women had a notion that it was good to be around a man who would put himself between her and danger. So it is not beyond belief that in an era where fighting men enjoy some small modicum of respect, that our quintessential fighting men would be recipients of photos of nude or nearly nude young women.
So, shit happens. To the extent that some of the women were unknowingly photographed, people need to be punished. But mark my words, some of those locker room photos will turn out to have been taken by other women. And it is very unlikely that any of the women volunteered to have their nude selfies or nudes taken by a boyfriend shared among strangers, but in the digital age each pretty woman who feels like posing for a nude photograph needs to consider that pixels are forever. She should wonder if someday her ten year old son will point to a picture and ask whether that's really her.
If one can decide to choose a gender, one can also choose to place compensated oaths of duty higher than the benefits realized or not from shitting where you eat and or sleep. Oh unless it is showbiz, those folks can't help it and deserve demanded empathy from us all.
Do the people who force themselves to fuck people that are risky to fuck, versus the presumably billions of people that could be fucked with no comparable risk, have something against masterbation? Or even if they jerk/Jill off six or seven times a day are they still unable to resist any genitals of their preferred sex?
It's almost as if the gazillion dollars and millions of man-hours of time spent on computer-generated sexual harrassment briefings designed by libtard diversity consultants instead of going to the range and going to the the field to train were a pointless fucking waste of time.
"So if someone takes a photo of themselves, it's OK to disseminate that without their knowledge or permission?"
Are these photos stolen? It sounds like a few are. But how did most of these photos originate and leave the original phones in the first place? Once it's on the Internet (that includes cloud backups from your phone) you should assume it's forever.
"Also, just about every workplace has 18-25 year olds of mixed genders working in close proximity these days ... yet it's the military that is having this problem isn't it?"
How do you know that? I'm pretty sure these behaviors exist everywhere there are stupid young people. But when you join your average company, you don't spend your entire life within the constraints of the company, where it has its own judicial system, medical system, places for employees to live, where the company can order you to die for the company's goals, etc. The military controls its members' lives in ways that mere corporations do not. I suspect if the average accounting firm sequestered its young employees away from the outside world in the way that the military does, the same things would happen.
The breakdown in discipline is terrible and must be fixed.
At the same time, can we agree that the ideological campaign to make the armed forces gender neutral was a mistake and that women don't belong in front-line fighting troops, whether on land or sea? The only countries that put women in harm's way are countries with their backs to the wall: e.g., Kurdistan, Israel. The US is not in such desperate straights and should not resort to such desperate measures.

That's always refreshing, when Marxist indoctrination completely fails to work on men.
The downhill spiral in the military started with the Tailhook scandal, or rather the insane reaction to it.
Military toughness has something to with being a normal guy.
Shameful.
Hugh Hefner warned us that the populists would use the Marine Next Door Centerfold of the Month as a recruiting tool.
What I have trouble understanding is why this is such a big deal when the females posed for the photos. I am not aware that any were taken with "secret cameras" or the like. I understand the anger at sharing but this is a social trend these days.
There are about 180,000 marine personnel.
Images of between ten and thirty victims were shared.
Perspective, please.
After years of insisting that the military abide by the same standards as civilians on matters of sexual conduct, it is now somehow shocking to learn that the military abides by the same standards as civilians on matters of sexual conduct.
Weren't these guys supposed to be busy fighting Radical Islam?
This is going to hurt the military in nearly the same way as the Catholic Church. There are no institutional heroes left.
"This is going to hurt the military in nearly the same way as the Catholic Church"
I'm not sure about that. I'll see if recruiting picks up in the next couple of months and report.
I can no longer sit back and allow Russian infiltration, Russian indoctrination, Russian subversion and the international Russian conspiracy to sap and impurify all of our precious bodily fluids.
The Marines never were supposed to be priests.
I agree, this cant hurt recruiting.
Lewis Wetzel is right about the numbers. Same deal with the Catholic Church. But the MSM must have controversy to feed the narrative and fill time.
And the narrative is the military is bad. That is until we have another 9-11.
Let's see. We have a bunch of young, fit, aggressive men, and we throw in with them a bunch of young, fit, aggressive women, and we expect that everyone will behave himself/herself. No sexual activity at all. Right?

Ok, let's confiscate all cell phones and computers from all female personnel, see if they have any dick pics on their drives.
Any takers?
What's the over-under on how much material the women have?
I might worry more if these guys were sharing nude photos of other guys, not that there's anything wrong with that.
I think the worst part is that the posters get the protection of anonymity but some of them denied that to the women whose photos they posted.
Ok, it's wrong, but my outrage mechanism is more wired to feel outrage at those who would ruin the lives or careers of young men who committed this offense than at the offense itself. Full disclosure: I looked at Jennifer Lawrence's naked photos.

An error in judgment exacerbated by progressive liberalism's social experiment.

These women will suffer harsh climates and primitive conditions, will risk mutilation or death
but wilt at their nude photos.

Right, because every commenter not named Nyamujal are totally in league with each other. Rigid lockstep conformity!
Personally, I think this is a) bad for the military; and b) an inevitable outcome of women in the military.
