Said CNN political commentator Ana Navarro on Jake Tapper's Sunday show yesterday.
Navarro is on the GOP side, but she worked on Jeb Bush's campaign and has been very anti-Trump. She talks about unnamed "friends" who tell her they disagree with things Trump is doing but it's "such a... steady rain of things" in an "emotionally exhausting week." And not just emotional exhaustion, but they are saying: "I can't survive politically if I am confronting the man every day."
She said "Republicans need to appeal to their sense of consciousness, to their principles to what is right and wrong to American values, and they need to speak up." We laughed at that because the normal word to use there would be "conscience" (or "conscientiousness"), but maybe these Republican friends of hers so inert that their consciousness is in question.
I know one might speak of levels of "consciousness" as in "consciousness raising." You can be conscious and yet gain a heightened awareness of something — a raised consciousness — especially with respect to something political.
But these GOP friends of Navarro's are not only conscious, they have heightened awareness, and it is of something political: their own political survival: "I can't survive politically if I am confronting the man every day."

Low energy.
I'm not tired. Now take on the public employee unions. Eliminate them at the federal level along with the asinine work rules that prevent incompetents from being fired. They need to be fired and quickly. Putting them on paid leave for a few years doesn't provide the proper incentive for the rest. Some of them need to be fired for cause with loss of pension and benefits to make others really wake up.
Oh, and one more thing. No more "performance" bonuses for federal employees. They get a great salary and benefits. That should be enough.
"We need time to get our talking points out!"
Navarro adds nothing to the conversation. Never has. She's just an establishment GOP prop for CNN.
She's a dinosaur unable to keep up with a 70 year old.
The response of someone with a defeated OODA Loop. Trump seems to attack her before she observes and orients, much less decides and acts. From 4 directions at once.
Her problem is Hispanic Slow Think. It slows her down while awaiting an authority to do something about this bad bully. But Trump just acts instinctively using years of orientation he pre-learned.
"Consciousness raising" is explicitly Marxist--the proletariat being forced into false consciousness by the capitalist superstructure of society, donchaknow.
The Dead Ball Era in politics is over.
She says that like it is a bad thing.
My question is how long Trump can keep this up? I suspect for a long time. When you borrow multiple millions of dollars to build something, every day that it isn't occupied costs you a pile of money. So you make decisions, you surround yourself with people who can also make decisions, and if not can present the information quickly so a decision can be made. And a lawyer who gives information that doesn't stand won't get asked again.
I worked for government a number of years ago for a couple years. I found myself losing the capability of maintaining a production pace.
Politicians complaining about the winner doing what he promised to do, and quickly. "This is my shocked face."
The Dead Ball Era in politics is over.
Saving this. With a date. Can't sum it up better with fewer words.
This'll do.
their sense of consciousness
That's right! That's the Republican Party needs -- a good dose of late 18th to early 20th C German philosophy. That'll perk the party right up, it will.
I know that when I'm feeling down & blue, I always pick up The Critique of Pure Reason & re-read the Amphiboly of the Concepts of Reflection, & all my sads go away.
Seriously, in an off-the-cuff conversation, it's easy to say consciousness when you mean conscience. Imagine though how the talking heads would go on for days & days if Trump had made the same mistake.
Other fighter pilots with a defeated OODA Loops are the neo- Democrat Senator MaCain and his faithful companion, Senator Judas Iscariot Graham.
They are willing to join the Enemy whenever they see the slightest chance of doing something that hurts Trump. And what's WW III with 80 % of the world's Nukes going off, if it hurts Trump.
Why does Jake Tapper/CNN think we want to hear from Ana Navarro, Gloria Borger, David Axelrod, etc.
A punch of people who make a living having opinions that mean nothing to the rest of us.
We all have opinions, Jake. We don't need professional opinion-havers when we could have actual news. (Or, as I've been saying lately, "More light. Less heat")
"Her problem is Hispanic Slow Think. It slows her down while awaiting an authority to do something about this bad bully."
She's just on-air talent. A mouthpiece.
Management by committee. There is no single executive on the other side deciding and directing.
There is obvious collaboration and coordination between multiple parties, constituting a dispersed HQ structure, but not a single general in command.
Yeah, but it's a good kind of tired.
Probably she hasn't had to work this hard in a very long time. Maybe her whole life. Lots of people work hard every day. Exhausting, ain't it? And how! Welcome to my world, asshole.
"Battle-swarm" and "high-tempo operations." Worth studying to gain an understanding of what's going on.
Trump is using Chaos Theory. Throwing bits out every day keeps everyone off guard.
Dems and their operatives are getting up in arms over everything, way out of proportion to actually what is happening. They think that they will get their voters back, when just the opposite will happen.
Trad Guy, don't forget Rubio is now in the McCain/Graham orbit.
Sorry, I don't even Latin.
I guess Ana does but not in this sense.
More medieval drawings please, while President Donald Trump changes the world.

Diddo. Was a government contractor on IT projects. The inflexibility of the requirements, the glacial pace of getting improvements approved, the inability to stray outside of the limitations of the contract even to deliver better/more than what was awarded. Maddening.
Was only in the Army for 4 years due to the BS. Was only a government contractor for 4 years due to the BS.
You know, there is a parallel for this speed of government (though "the end of the dead ball era" is fantastic, I must remember it). There is a beer commercial (which beer! Was it a Budweiser Superbowl commercial?) where a bunch of regular Joes appear to constitute Congress, and they crank through a lot of common-sense legislation by voice vote during the run of the commercial, which is not long. Basically Trump is doing what makes sense.
But these GOP friends of Navarro's are not only conscious, they have heightened awareness, and it is of something political: their own political survival: "I can't survive politically if I am confronting the man every day.
Republicans have nothing standing in the way of 35 years of pent up conservative policy except their own crapulence.
Career tip for the new kids.
If you want a job as a political commentator on television, say you're a Republican and then bad mouth everything the Republicans do. Always start with, "I'm a Republican but...."
I remember when people said Obama should slow down.
Then we got the ACA.
I don't feel no ways tired
You need men as leaders so they're not emotionally exhaused.
The flurry of activity this week has been really a dizzying pace. It's so hard to keep up.
No, not hard. But it has been a LONG time coming.
Republicans need to appeal to their sense of consciousness
That's awareness awareness.
"We all have opinions, Jake."
And assholes, too.
Some even are assholes. Two for the price of one.
I don't want to overdo the OODA loop thing but this is what it looks like.
Chip Kelly made a good thing out of up tempo at Oregon. It didn't work as well in the pros, maybe because they figured out how to counter it.
Maybe the Democrats should hire Chip Kelly.
Welcome to the Trump Hurry Up No Huddle Offense. Getting a little winded already lefties?
"flurry of activity" DJT gets up every morning wanting to do stuff. Like he ran his company -- what's the next deal, the next property to buy, the next place to put his name on? He ain't no lazy bum like O. Of course, getting these EOs out is not exactly hard work, though it should be for a reasonably well-organized staff. Since he doesn't have that constraint yet, he can can just keep at it a bit longer.
@rh: ""Republicans need to appeal to their sense of consciousness." That's awareness awareness."
Wait, so DJT can speed up the arrival of the Absolute Spirit as well? I'll let YoungHegelian explain.
Navarro is attempting to recast the trance. You're getting sleepy...
Ann says: "I know one might speak of levels of "consciousness" as in "consciousness raising.""
You might, I prefer to think of it as consciousizing.
Never happen, n.n. She's not nearly pretty enough to pay attention to. Bet she has a voice like a Microplane too.
Navarro is on the GOP side, but she worked on Jeb Bush's campaign and has been very anti-Trump.
Typical eGOP. Dana Perino is another example. Trump is too … too … decisive? Efficient? Active? Too “extreme,” which when translated into concrete terms seems to be when Trump deviates slightly from the eGOP version of political correctness or ideological purity.
It’s all happening so fast that it is difficult for them to obsess en mass on any one fake news item, poor dears. The Whitehouse is operating on Trumptime, not the eGOP’s timid, tame, tedious, trite and slow as molasses pace and they are all having major adjustment problems.
A punch of people ...
Intentional or not, I like it.
This isn't a "flurry". It's looks like a good, solid pace to people in businesses with lots of hard deadlines, that, if missed, mean money lost. Which are most businesses.
She talks about unnamed "friends" who tell her they disagree with things Trump is doing but it's "such a... steady rain of things" in an "emotionally exhausting week." And not just emotional exhaustion, but they are saying: "I can't survive politically if I am confronting the man every day."
She said "Republicans need to appeal to their sense of consciousness, to their principles to what is right and wrong to American values, and they need to speak up."
Before Trump got elected I had no idea there were quite so many ways to say "we've gotta protect our phoney baloney jobs, gentlemen!".
@Sebastian,
Wait, so DJT can speed up the arrival of the Absolute Spirit as well? I'll let YoungHegelian explain.
Whoa, dude! The Donster as World Historical Individual! It explains so freakin' much, it does, man!
Dude, I gotta sit down.....

Navarro voted for Hillary Clinton - and yet she's the token GOP on the panel.
I recently watched (beginning to end) CNN's Election Night coverage. Borger and Navarro's heads were exploding along with most of the others. John King was the only rational/even-handed that night. Maybe I need to go back and watch again - with a bowl of popcorn.
@YH: "Whoa, dude! The Donster as World Historical Individual! It explains so freakin' much, it does, man!"
I knew you'd come through! While you're at it, please explain how Trump's toying with the left fits the Herrscharft und Knechtschaft dialectic.

The Weltgeist, he is a droll geist.
@Sebastian,
fits the Herrscharft und Knechtschaft dialectic.
I think what Donald & Melania do in their private lives is none of our business. They're both adults. Dialectically speaking, of course.
Maybe they are so exhausted they are losing consciousness.
This seems to be a solid pace to help China: At a lunch in Davos two days after Mr. Xi’s address, a Berlin-based private equity fund manager, André Loesekrug-Pietri, stood in a dining room full of more than 100 people and predicted the dawning of a new era.
“We heard a Chinese president becoming the leader of the free world,” he said.( how ironic.)

I'm not tired either.
This isn't Wimbledon tennis back and forth; it's some crazy air war with ooda loop the ooda loop then immelman, he's on your tail, he's got a lock, fire the chaff. On to the next.
GOP are winning bigly. Dems are losing bigly. I might get tired of winning by 2024.
Nah.
Awww, the poor snowflakes aren't used to actually working for a living.
Trump ain't no ways tarred - to coin a phrase
As for me I'm buying stock in companies that make spoons and high chairs.
Ana Navarro better stay out of the world of business. Trump is extraordinary only by contrast with Obama the ditherer.
Watched Fox News at Ten. Reporter was emoting all over Dumbocrats holding up homemade signs welcoming refugees. Wife and I simultaneously yelled "He's doing what we elected him to do!" at the TV.
I've been using the 10W-40 mantra for some time with my consulting clients. Manufacturing productivity, mostly.
10 minutes of wasted time daily, adds up to more than an entire week lost at the end of a year. (250 days per year X 10 min = 2500 minutes = 41.7 hours)
I'd not thought of that before reading the comments in this thread but it applies to President Trump just as much as it applies to manufacturing.
He works his ass off, and he has done for the past 50 years. He finds that additional 10 minutes in each day, or multiples thereof. He strikes me as a person who, whatever his faults might be, does not waste time.
In a few minutes here, a few minutes there each day he works a couple weeks more each year than most people.
John Henry

Yes! And I emailed President Trump this morning to thank him for doing what he said he would do. And quickly, too! I want him to know, media hype aside, that he still has the support of his many supporters. You da man, Donald!

RV, I never thought you were a genius till now:
Let China take all the refugees!
Yes, roesch, I bow to you.
LMK when it happens. I'm taking a nap, I'm a little tired from all the winning.

This is what used to be called Great Man Theory?
