TAPPER: More specifically, we are wondering what 2017 will be like in the, shall we say, "unpresidented" nature of it all. Before heading to Florida for Christmas, Donald Trump gave what he said would be the final rally of his so-called thank you tour and then promised to do more rallies.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
DONALD TRUMP (R), PRESIDENT-ELECT: This is the last time I will be speaking at a rally for maybe a while. You know? They are saying, as president, he shouldn't be doing rallies. But I think we should, right?

TRUMP: We have done everything else the opposite.

"The thing he shows no sign of giving up, his Twitter feed, which Trump used last night to chum up the waters of international intrigue."
Said Jake Tapper — on "State of the Union" today — chumming up the waters of Sunday morning talk.

Is the traffic good w/ the DJT stuff?
I noticed Mike Savage has really cut back. Levin a bit, too.
Maybe they're doing because they honestly are sick of it, even though a more DJT-ist focus would help w/ listeners. Maybe continuing w/ DJT apologist-ing would be the ratings winner. If so Althouse must be doing gangbusters.
Good for her. I guess.
Jake Tapper is the whorehouse piano player in the parlor of American TV news, pretending he has honest employment despite all the disgusting noises coming down from upstairs.
I would have guessed that Tapper would have been one of the more open-minded ones, willing to consider new ways of doing things.
Social media is how Trump undoes the women's news policy imperatives.
He gives his own story legs instead of theirs.
The soap opera woman editing function is gone.
Here are the last three twitters from Obama's account:
"Thanks to the Affordable Care Act, your coverage is better today than it was before."

Let's keep working to keep our economy on a better, stronger course.
I'm a bit confused, is the thread where we all chime in to agree Tapper's a dope, or is this the thread where we all chime in to agree that BHO is a dope, or is this the thread where we all chime in to agree that _______________ is a dope?
Carry on.
CNN has declared War on Trump. It is almost funny watching them demean him for winning, declaring over and over that it is his scary lack of all skill and experience that means he will blow up the New World Order. And they are right.
DJT is blowing up the false narratives created by the CIA and its Media Broadcast Branch since Ronnie Raygun won the cold war. Reagan was replaced by Bush I, and then Clinton 1, and then Bush II, and then Mullah Obama, and then almost Clinton II.
With Trump all that expensive fictional misinformation is going down the drain. The end is near in CNN's Hitler Bunker, so CNN is doing a suicide Charge.
Tapper is better than most MSM reporter types but he has to toe the editorial line of the Clinton News Network.
I guess Twitter, which I refuse to touch, is Trump's way of getting past the hostile press.
Trump's going to be out on the stump giving rallies for quite sometime yet, it gets him out of his children's hair while they get to the serious business of governing this country.
I hadn't something really, really witty and great and super profound and kpjunk.
Hence the drinking didn't take nothing from me.
Nothing I tell you, not One damn thing.
MINDNYOU SUPER NOTHINGSTSLL!!
So Tapper says "Trump gave what he said would be the final rally of his so-called thank you tour" and then shows a clip in which Trump actually says (emphasis added) "This is the last time I will be speaking at a rally for maybe a while". How stupid is Tapper, or how stupid does he think we are, to say that "the last time . . . for maybe a while" is a promise to stop?
I missed Jake's so-called news show.
All of DJT's rallies should be called thank you tours, forever.
I hope DJT plans to have a thank you tour in my town in 2020, if not sooner. That would be the bee's knees.
Orwell would be proud.
As soon as other countries and their leaders start speaking Tweeter to Trump, a language and length he can handle, things will go much better. As for CNN promoting Trump, I guess that is why they gave him 24/7 coverage of every rally and tweet he made because? But folks call CNN in the tank for Hillary? Ah but as Charles Sykes, a conservative radio host in Wisconsin, pointed out in a NYT article that Althouse managed to skip over, "the echo chamber had morphed into a full-blown alternate reality silo of conspiracy theories, fake news and propaganda."
I liked the "unpresidented" comment. I think it was intentional.
I'm absolutely convinced Trump doesn't speak Austrian, and knows the difference between corpsman, and corpse.
"I noticed Mike Savage has really cut back. Levin a bit, too."
I don't know about Savage every-time I tune in, Savage is talking about himself & what he had for lunch, trying to sell his books, or ranting about the middle east. I don't know why anyone listens to him.
As for Levin, he was a hysterical #NeverTrumper, then scaled it back starting in August 2016, and now obviously is torn between attacking him (bad for ratings) and supporting him (aka being a phony). So he babbles on about some safe subject, like the EC.
More to the point:
Sell China peanut high at 2/3 and short the Saharan wallaby until 5/8 quarters Shepards third apex Parento vis. common Dutch.
Its funny how the MSM tries to lie about Trump's tweets. Hell, it only takes 2 seconds to look up the actual tweet and see how the MSM is distorting it.
The same is true of Trump's rallies. Its all on Youtube and its easy to spot the MSM lies and distortions.
Does anyone really believe what the NYT or WaPo writes about Trump without fact checking it?
Well I'll see Michael K's "I refuse to touch Twitter" and increase my bid by saying I won't do Facebook either.
That said, your average Twitter tweet is about 130 characters too long for your average MSM reporter to understand. There's a real danger to the MSM here in that Trump's unrestricted tweeting gets his message(s) such as they are, right past the gatekeepers at WaPo and NYT. That can't be allowed! It violates protocol--or some mumbo jumbo like that.
"I don't know about Savage every-time I tune in"
Don't tune in. They both have free podcasts that have almost no commercials. Take control.
Oops, forgot to add the emphasis on "for maybe a while".
Rallies.."JUST LIKE HITLERRRRR!!!!"
Oh shit if that last post gave rh a seizure or some CPU overload I wanna Vince Vaughn spologize, with none could ever bee the same as Dwight Yoakum in "These Arms" with-no-preclusion-genius-allowed.
Dwight.
Vince.
Cabs and limos.
And their drivers, both.
Ah but as Charles Sykes, a conservative radio host in Wisconsin
Would that be the same Charles Sykes who has everything bad to say about the GOP, but nothing bad about the Democrats? You know, this guy: http://www.npr.org/2016/09/20/494585814/spurning-trump-self-styled-conservative-gatekeeper-finds-himself-on-the-margins
"I think there's going to be a reckoning in conservative talk radio," he said. "The illusion that conservative media was about ideas has been shattered. The idea that there was a unified message in conservative media, I think, has been broken. I think that the trust that a lot of people put in conservative media over the years is going to be very, very hard to restore."
Regardless of the outcome of this election, Sykes says it will be important for conservative media to do as he plans to next year: reflect on whether there's still a line that divides information from entertainment.
Sykes is quitting his show. Trump won, he lost. There will be no "next year" for him. I predict that Sykes will become a frequent contributor to NPR and other liberal media, where his comments will be indistinguishable from the comments of a liberal pundit.

Hmmm. Maybe "unpresidented" was intentional, madAsHell, just to remind us that the U.S. is pretty much unpresidented for the next 33 days, as Obama heads out on a smallish 2-week vacation to get ready for the rigours of his long permanent vacation. He certainly hasn't done much of anything, even talking, since Election Day.
Yes, every dumb mistake Trump makes is because of his secret genius. He meant to do that.... really he did.
FDR didn't have twitter. When he wanted to communicate with the American people without allowing the press to pervert his message, he went on the radio, and gave a "fireside chat".
You chum the waters when you are trying to attract your prey.......
Lyin'PB_Ombudsman: "Orwell would be proud."
LOL
You have no idea what you are trying to say, do you?
Why don't you throw in something about the illuminati while you are at it?
It's the one where we all chime in to agree that Lyin'PB_Ombudsman is a dope.
Unknown: "Yes, every dumb mistake Trump makes is because of his secret genius. He meant to do that.... really he did."
This is the point where everyone points out all the "mistakes" obambi makes which shows that he is still a coddled babe in the woods and still is quite the idiot. To which the lefties say those "mistakes" don't "count".
For some reason.
BTW, how is the Cyber-War against Russia coming along? Is obambi conducting it while body surfing in Hawaii? I mean, it's just our nation and it's electronic integrity or something. I mean, it's not as important as a nice Hilton Head tee time, but still.
Dr. Weevil: "He certainly hasn't done much of anything, even talking, since Election Day."
Nonsense!!
Obambi effectively squeezed 5 minutes of content into a 2 hour press conference!!
BTW, here is one of the CNN "pitch perfect" (though not as they intended) headlines: "Obama's victory lap overshadowed by ISIS concerns"
LOL
http://www.cnn.com/2015/12/18/politics/obama-press-conference-isis-terrorism/index.html
Hey, maybe Barack and Michelle can squeeze in another rapper meet up to discuss misogyny!
If we invite Hillary, we could expand the discussion to cover the potential cancer dangers of absorbing cigar tobacco through orifices which were never actually intended for cigar use.
Gee, I sure hope Trump follows the example of previous Presidents and doesn't do anything to demean the office of the Presidency.
That would be a darn shame.
http://www.nytimes.com/2016/12/17/opinion/sunday/donald-trump-the-russian-poodle.html
"Frankly, it’s mystifying that Trump continues to defend Russia and Putin, even as he excoriates everyone else, from C.I.A. officials to a local union leader in Indiana.
Now we come to the most reckless step of all: This Russian poodle is acting in character by giving important government posts to friends of Moscow, in effect rewarding it for its attack on the United States.
Rex Tillerson, Trump’s nominee for secretary of state, is a smart and capable manager. Yet it’s notable that he is particularly close to Putin, who had decorated Tillerson with Russia’s “Order of Friendship.”"
Whatever our personal politics, how can we possibly want to respond to Russia’s interference in our election by putting American foreign policy in the hands of a Putin friend?
Its an interesting idea, what Orwell would think of Trump.
Being an old fan, and having read everything of his, I think its safe to say Orwell would have picked up on the managed anti-Trump press, and smelled a rat. Its all right out of 1984 and Animal Farm. Its just what he hated most, propaganda drove him bats.
He was also more than a bit of a snob, though a self-conscious one, also quite a prig, and probably wouldnt have liked Trump the man. Still, between the declasse Trump and the evil propaganda machine, I think he would have backed Trump.
Now, Evelyn Waugh probably would have enjoyed Trump.

The press sucked up to FDR big time. He did his "press conferences" in his office, and usually had hem groveling for crumbs. He had no problem with lying and the press had no problem accepting his lies.

I was curious about Sykes, so I googled him at work. Seems his Dad was a big ACLU liberal and Sykes was pretty left-wing himself as a young man. He finally wrote a book called "Profscam" which made people think he was conservative and then jumped aboard the conservative talk show fad in the early 1990s. Its obvious that like Lowrey, Goldberg, and Kristol he was never a real Reaganite conservative, more of a neo-con.

Actually the NYT cataloged every tweeter and insult that Trump made in a complete list-- takes about 5 seconds to find that article with all the tweeters Rcoean so do some fact checking. In fact what some call a dead letter, the NYT has seen a huge increase in subscriptions this last year, just the way Vanity Fair did after Trump tweeted his displeasure about a food review they did. And anyone who has listened to Sykes knows he will not should like a liberal pundit, but a conservative with a conscience who has not sold out his ideas.

You mean both Animal Farm and 1984?
You are obviously a person of refined tastes, BP.
Seriously, I think every kid in America read both books in HS. Starting in the 50's and continuing in the present. I discussed this with my son's English teacher when he was assigned them. He didn't know Orwell had written anything else.
Nor did I until I stumbled across The Road to Wigan Pier 12 years out of HS. Since then I think I have read everything he has written multiple times. Currently my bathroom book for when I am meditating is Vol IV of his collected essays, letters and journalism. I can just open it anywhere and find something interesting.
My personal favorite, for reasons that I can't explain, is "Coming up for Air". I've probably read it 25 times.
Everyone knows him, practically nobody knows anything past the 2 books. I don't even think they were his best writing.
Sorry for the rant.
Nevil Shute is another fascinating British author that everybody reads in HS, On the Beach, but that wrote 24 other books nobody's heard of. All best sellers in their day.
I've read Town Like Alice and Trustee from the Toolroom at least 20 times each. All the rest multiple times. They just get better each time.
I even got to have dinner with his daughters Heather and Shirly along with Richard Bach in 99.
More info on Shute at http://nevilshute.org/

Trump will figure out journalistic amour-propre, given time. The Precedential thing to do is wait for a memorial service for shooting victims, then make a rally out of that.
Wetzel, feel free to retweet Trump here, that however wouldn't be unpresidented.
Sorry burma, Orwell borrowed the three powers who write indistinguishable from James Burnham, a former trotskite who became the strategic columnist for national review
"George : Why did it all turn out like this for me? I had so much promise. I was personable, I was bright. Oh, maybe not academically speaking, but ... I was perceptive. I always know when someone's uncomfortable at a party. It became very clear to me sitting out there today, that every decision I've ever made, in my entire life, has been wrong. My life is the opposite of everything I want it to be. Every instinct I have, in every of life, be it something to wear, something to eat ... It's all been wrong.
( A waitress comes up to G )
Waitress : Tuna on toast, coleslaw, cup of coffee.
George : Yeah. No, no, no, wait a minute, I always have tuna on toast. Nothing's ever worked out for me with tuna on toast. I want the complete opposite of on toast. Chicken salad, on rye, untoasted ... and a cup of tea.
Elaine : Well, there's no telling what can happen from this."
I read "On the Beach" when it came out and it almost convinced me to drop out of college. I still can't read it.
I read it in Australia. Brrrr!

Maybe you've got some Erma Bombeck columns to quote verbatim, "Unknown"? They were just so darned topical in 1985.
There was a difference between Orwell pre 1936 and Orwell post 1936.
After '36, Orwell understood that history, as taught, was malleable. The winners made history. You could not trust history. History was not about justice and progress, history was about power.
And if you can not trust history, you cannot believe in the progressive idea of history.

Because: (1) he is entertaining and (2) he's been talking about borders, language and culture for about 20 years, long before most of us woke up.
There's a very good article in the left-leaning Jewish magazine "The Tablet" entitled "Bye, Bye, Neo-Cons" that applies not only to the Jewish neo-cons who blew their credibility by openly preferring Hillary to Trump, but to nonJews like Sykes as well:
http://www.tabletmag.com/jewish-news-and-politics/220055/bye-bye-neo-cons
"Right up until Charles Krauthammer called the election for Clinton early on Fox News on election night, the neoconservatives were secure in their belief that the ruins of the Republican Party would accrue to them. With Trump’s victory, their problem is to show their funders that they still matter."
Sounds like a certain "lifelong Republican" who frequently posts here, doesn't it? He was so sure all those uncouth, embarrassing Trump fans would be booted out of his weak, but pure Republican Party once Hillary won the election.
And for all the howling on the Left about Steve Bannon and Breitbart, "The Tablet" was honest enough to admit this:
"As it happens, I have spent some time with Steve Bannon, and I—like other Jews of his acquaintance—observe that he is exuberantly pro-Israel and as friendly to Jews as any Gentile I know. After reading Podhoretz’s accusation, I examined every article published on Bannon’s Breitbart website during the past years containing the search terms “Israel” or “Jews” and found that all were pro-Israel and friendly to Jews without a single exception."
That Breitbart is not a "white Supremacist" site is obvious if one spends 5 minutes checking it out. That hasn't kept leftists and NeverTrumpers on the right from leveling the ridiculous assertion because they are too lazy and dishonest to refrain from repeating a blatant lie.
US High school reading of Orwell and Shute...
Even back in the 65-75 era we read "On the Beach" and "1984" and (sometimes) "Animal Farm".
Not Huxley's "Brave New World", of course, too many sex references.
Never anything with a positive cast on the US, or critical of socialist trends ("1984" was deemed to be about McCarthy, not Stalin).
Not "Town Like Alice", "Down and Out", "Wiggin Pier", "No Highway", or the history of the R100 / R101.
HS lit choices, even in my supposedly superior CA public school, were conservative as hell. Conservative in the sense that the choices all supported the rapid leftward drift of the English teachers and district administrations. (I still shudder at the memory of an English teacher endless harping on "Man's inhumanity to Man". Fortunately, he lost his job when he was arrested for hosting 16 year old girls overnight on his boat.)
To get good English lit recommendations I asked my French teacher, a German / Czech refugee from WW2. (He once complained publicly to the English department that they should pay him, since he had to teach us English grammar before he could teach us French grammar.)
r/V: Ah but as Charles Sykes, a conservative radio host in Wisconsin, pointed out in a NYT article that Althouse managed to skip over...
Althouse isn't really the sort of person who enjoys laughing at pathetic people, so I'd assume she'd "skip over" Charlie Sykes writing in the NYT.
I might take a look, though.
"Never anything with a positive cast on the US, or critical of socialist trends ("1984" was deemed to be about McCarthy, not Stalin)."
