"I am going to run in 2020."/"For what?"/"For president. What the hell man, anyway."

Biden will be 78 in 2020, and I assume he's joking or maybe combination joking and preserving a remote option, but anyone who cares about the Democratic Party should be horrified at this interference with the development of younger talent. Hillary performed that function for so long, to such a dreary effect.

Dem's have killed their bench and will not recover for a long time. Relive are killing bench in certain states-Arizona and Kentucky

His form of vulgarity is different from Trump's, and will play less well.

The Baby Boomers haven't given up without a fight. They are determined to leave this country in as poor a shape as possible before they depart.

There is a method to Trump's utterances. Not so with Biden. There is a reason he has been labeled the "gaff-o-matic'. After he speaks, it is generally followed by an "oh crap".

He is bidding his time.

What makes Joe run?

Trumpit said...

I reject your ageist comment "younger talent." Age can confer wisdom & experience. I don't reject Trump because he is 70, rather that he is bozo the clown. Clowns are not yet a protected class.

I hope he runs. He's very entertaining. At 78, he may be even more entertaining. Why not? It's up to the democratic party to choose someone younger to be their candidate. That's what they did in the last election.

rehajm said...

Since they got caught last time they need to make sure Hillary has a formidable opponent for the primaries.

And also, what the hell man, anyways.

Slow Joe has been collecting a fed govt paycheck for about 45 years now. He has never missed a paycheck in all that time. That is pretty rare since most older Americans have been affected by downsizings, etc in the last 30 years.

I guess Slow Joe is worried about where his next meal comes from after January 20th. And I think it would be appropriate, when he finds it, if he gagged a bit on it. Afterall he is one of the poster boys IMHO for why the country is where it is today.

Could Biden have beaten Trump? At least he would have campaigned in WI MI and PA.

And who do the .Dems run other than Booker? He was running the first day after the election.

When Hillary was being bombarded by File Gate material, some started saying Hillary should drop out. Ol Joe was thought to be the savior.

I laughed.

Meanwhile Joe just keeps pluggin' along.

I would imagine that if Hillary is still alive, she'll run in 2020. She has nothing else to do. It's not like she has a job to return to. Epic battle: Hillary vs. Joe. Sad!

Comanche Voter said...

Well Joe's body will be 78 in 2020==but since he hasn't used his brain all that much, his mind will only be 20 years old. Now that is "young talent".

It can.

But we're talking about Joe Biden here. Whose entire candidacy would be based on him being an idiot who likes to fondle women.

Damikesc, I think you wrote that without seeing the irony. Replace "Joe Biden" with "Donald Trump" and you have the President-elect of the United States.

This is not interference in the development of young "talent", but it's a reflection that the party leadership, particularly President Obama, is incapable of developing talent.

Trumpit,

A-ha, you're old. Ask me how I figured that out.

But stupid, yup, $10 billion worth of dumb. How much is Slow Hands Joe worth again?

Uh-huh. Last year the Bidens made over $400,000. $22k in rent.

I'm thinking Cayman Islands. Well, he's been in it long enough to know not to take bribes by check.

Hillary will leave the door open whether she really plans to or not. It's the only way to keep the money flowing into her fake charity. Sooner or later, however, they will have to float the idea of Chelsea running to keep the scam alive.

Biden is running? Best news of the day!

For Republicans.

Well, at least the Democrats have rising star, Keith Ellison emerging as the new leader of the party. So, there's that.

Joe in '20 makes sense. Best they got.

Who else can run? Cuomo? Kaine? Gillibrand? It is to laugh. Besides Joe, Patrick/Booker will be their best shot. Unless . . . Michelle? If nothing else, the mere threat would fuel the coming O scam (but paralyze the rest of the party).

The Democrats tried to elect the first woman president, now the first mentally challenged president is going to run?
If they run Biden they are going to have a lot of trouble using the old "the Republican nominee is an idiot" page from their playbook.

wildswan said...

78 is the new 68 and plenty of Presidents have been 68. Plus he'll only be 4 years older than Trump. Run, Joe, Run. On the other hand, we have reality.

They've been trying to keep Hillarystank off Sherrod Brown. His campaign starts during the confirmation hearings.

Warren will be trying to keep a high profile, decrease her shrillitude, and (pretend to) move slightly to the right. Then they will be able to use the "first woman President" approach again.

Alive? Why? If dead people can vote, why can't they run for President?

Biden is such a doofus, I can only hope he'll run.

Big Mike said...

We Virginia Republicans plan to help Joe "Hands" Biden by removing smarmy Tim Kaine from the Senate in 23 months.

mccullough said...

He would probably win if he made it to the general election. Biden's gaffes and flummery would not hurt him against Trump. It's getting through the Dem primary that would be tough. But in a crowded field of Sanders, Warren, and Booker and some Dem governors he could do it by winning the white working class and suburban white vote.

Younger talent like...?

JAORE said...

"Younger talent like...?"

I Googled that.

I made a quick trip to Democratic Underground (keyboard disinfection to follow). Now this is circa 2013, but I found it instructive.

Castro Brothers
Warren, although they noted she's no spring chicken.
Sen Kirsten Gillibrand
Governor Dean (Yeearrrrghhhh!)
Governor O'Malley, and
Nina Turner. (Who? You know the Minority Whip for the Ohio Senate. Ohhhhh! THAT Nina Turner.)

I can agree that not many knew who Bill Clinton, or even Jimmie Carter were before they ran. But this line up looks pretty weak to me. Have any rising stars shown up since?

Corey Booker....uhhh.
Michelle Obama?
Jill Stein? (Couldn't help it).
Jesse Jackson Junior (tee hee)

FWIW the NYT had an article on that. They had the Gov. of RI, J.P. Kennedy III (Camelot 2.0), some state reps, a couple of mayors and .....

The Dem's will probably run Misty Snow. Who? She's historic! Misty Snow was the Dem candidate for Senate in Utah, up against Mike Lee.

"She" is historic! The very first transgender candidate to run for public office.

"she" can appeal to all those working class Americans because "she" is a bagging clerk at the local grocery.

The Dems will ignore the fact that Mike Lee spent most of the campaign campaigning for other Republicans in other states and still beat Misty Snow by 50. She's perfect. The Dems should totally run her.

Earnest Prole said...

and Trump is supposed to be the narcissist?

Wilbur said...

The Dems have a problem:
Someone like a current sitting governor - there aren't many - would afford them their best chance to win the general election. But that governor has to actually govern a state, and unless it's a state of the darkest blue hue, he'll have to make decisions and execute policies sure to infuriate the Sanders left, blocking him or her from the nomination.

Or they can try their luck with Keith Ellison.
