I hate to see a nice photo of a ginkgo tree go uncommented.

wow - that looks like filters or photoshop - but maybe not? wonderful shot

The quip that "his opponents take Trump literally, but not seriously, while his supporters take him seriously, but not literally," has a lot to it.

It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood.

I touched it up a bit in iPhoto, but basically that's the color of the leaves now and the sun was shining through at 4 p.m. yesterday. I got the sun behind the trunk (as you can tell from the shadow).

If the warm weather holds my Raywood Ash may yet get colors this fall.
The last several years, we have had early freezes that just turned the leaves brown and froze them right down off the tree.

The sun beaming down between the leaves
(Grazing in the grass is a gas, baby, can you dig it?)

I'm red/green color blind, and sometimes pics just don't look right - in this pic it's the color of the houses in the background that looks off to me, not the tree itself - and by the way, loved that you picked up on Scott Adams way earlier than most people - you're both regular reads and your commenting on him was very welcome and interesting - hoping his pledge to do his part really comes to something - if we're to get out of the place we're in, it's going to take some fresh views - along with a lot of cruel neutrality ;-)

I enjoy your photos. Thanks for posting them.

@walter- the ironic thing about those "covered" IUDs is that the insurance often reimburses doctors less than the cost of the IUD, making them difficult to get.

As much as I like and think Corey Seager is a terrific player, Nolan Arrenado is more deserving to be a finalist for the NL MVP.

Not surprise to me..but you will get blank stares if you bring up to Pelo-Reid-care fans such issues of reimbursement vs access to coverage.
If we are lucky, they may not have to experience the effects of a fully implemented Pelo-Reid-care.

Best news since Trump's victory: California campaigns to secede

Big Mike বলেছেন...

A friend told me that Hillary lost every state she campaigned in. Can anyone confirm? It's actually plausible.

Big Mike বলেছেন...

@mockturtle, the question of whether a state can secede and was settled in Appomattox Court House in Virginia, back in 1865.

mockturtle বলেছেন...

Big Mike, I beg to differ. In the case of Texas, they maintain the legal, constitutional right to secede from the Union. They are a Republic. We were told this on our tour of the Capitol building at Austin.

Regarding California, it was just wishful thinking on my part. Maybe Mexico would take them back. And if they were to secede, we should insist that their residents not be permitted to emigrate to the US, further Californicating other states as they have WA and OR.

buwaya বলেছেন...

"the question of whether a state can secede and was settled in Appomattox Court House in Virginia, back in 1865."

Well, the question of whether a state can be expelled hasn't been settled yet.

I don't see a path to reforming this state.

mockturtle বলেছেন...

Thank you, buwaya. You know better than most just how bad it is.

It seems to me that, if it's a mutual consideration, it should be allowed. :-) And, if California wants to leave, there will be few to stop them.

mockturtle বলেছেন...

BTW, Alaska also has the right to detach itself.

It's the same thing. The only way out, is if all the States decide not to be United.

This is that possibility, as it was in the Soviet Union. We are only bound by a Constitution, and once it is agreed to end it, the states all go their separate ways, or separate new alliances.

Some States will stick with the dollar, others like California will go with the Peso.

They were a Republic. They are a State now.

You're going to need some sources for that. Most of us don't have your in-depth knowledge on these matters. All we have is what they teach in US History classes.

Big Mike বলেছেন...

@mockturtle and buwaya, unfortunately it's relatively difficult for a portion of a state to detach itself, otherwise Californian counties from Oakland northward, eastern Oregon, and eastern Washington would be ditching the rest of their respective states in a heartbeat. West Virginia came about only because the rest of the state, being at war with the federal government, was in no position to object.

I am not that frequent a commenter on this blog but I have deliberately avoided it during the run-up to the election, I have had better things to do. Being a recent retiree, I have been doing all the things I have wanted to do and never had the time and most of those are more important than being stuck on the computer all day and arguing about who is the worst candidate. Facebook has just about become unbearable, too many idiots. For the past couple of weeks I have gone hiking nearly every day, I had left my bicycle at my other home in GA so my normal cycling was out of the question. We have a 3600 acre nature preserve on the mountain that rises behind my neighborhood and I have been reliving my Scouting days from my youth by exploring the 42 miles of hiking trails that are up there. It is only minutes out of town but it is instant wilderness, I can't believe I have failed to enjoy it all these years but work always came first. I had to stop this week due to a wildfire on the side of the mountain that has closed some of the trails, but I hope that is cleared up by next week, so I can get back to it. (Prof. Althouse, this is the mountain up behind Cliff's house, I live just a few blocks from him).

But, tomorrow I am off on a road trip with my 39-year old daughter for the holiday weekend. We are going to Pensacola, FL, so she can run in a marathon on Sunday morning. Her husband couldn't go so I am going with her. It will be a meaningful trip for me as my late father trained on flying seaplanes at Pensacola NAS in 1944-45. We plan to visit the wonderful Naval Aviation Museum and then will spend the afternoon at an air show featuring the Blue Angels. This gets this old 65-year old very excited, spending my time with first-born for the whole weekend, and getting to see so many things that interest me. Another nice thing is I know I will be among hundreds - or more like thousands - of wonderful people.

So, everyone put the politics away and lets enjoy the nice weekend, especially the meaning that is associated with Nov 11. If you have veterans in your family I hope you will spend time with them or give them a call. I hope you all have as nice a weekend as I plan to have.

mockturtle বলেছেন...

coupe, there are plenty of sources from Alaska and from Texas affirming their rights to secede. The US Supreme Court may disagree but there really is a lot of grey area with these two states.

mockturtle বলেছেন...

coupe says: They were a Republic. They are a State now.

Ask a Texan, coupe.

Have you seen the stunningly incompetent email from Grubhub's CEO to his employees? The punchline was "If you do not agree with this statement then please reply to this email with your resignation because you have no place here."

I'll be charitable and assume that he intended "this statement" to refer to a single sentence pledging support to employees who feel "scared" or "exposed," but the sentence just before that one was "I absolutely reject the nationalist, anti-immigrant and hateful politics of Donald Trump and will work to shield our community from this movement as best as I can," and the rest of the email was clearly anti-Trump and pro-Hillary.

I'm not the boycotting type, and I've never cancelled an account with a merchant because of politics before, especially one that is really very good at what it does. This will be the first. (Grubhub lets you order meals for takeout or pickup from a wide range of restaurants. I do a lot of traveling, and I've used it extensively while on the road. I will miss it.)

Hmm..so? That makes sense..in a sense.
However, she lost Wisco..didn't think she had to visit.

mockturtle বলেছেন...

I think she campaigned in both NV & CA, both of which she won.
