67 years ago today in history, on October 19, 1949, Everett Mancouver demonstrated the first-ever, perpetually self-sustained reaction between two electrified cellos.
Nobel-quality work, but the audience hated it so much that they set fire to the cellos, and to the stage. Mancouver died in 1975, apparently from a moose attack.
I already did buy a book through the Althouse Amazon Portal -- it was The Kingdom of Speech, by Tom Wolfe. A better book is Becoming Human by Ian Tattersall.
I went to vote today, Ohio has early voting, and I thought I would give the Dems a chance to tell me one thing that Clinton has done that would make me want to vote for her.The first person I went to didn't want to talk about her, just the downcard races. She called over someone else who told me that she was the first female nominated. I told them I didn't vote on gender or feelings, I just wanted something tangible that would make me want to vote for her. They called over the supervisor that was running the booth and she couldn't tell me one thing. They kept saying "go to the website" and I kept telling them that I didn't want campaign promises, just something that she has done in the time she has been in DC. They couldn't come up with one thing, just that she was a women and Trump was icky. And these were her supporters. They kept calling more people over and they all said the same thing, but no one could tell me one tangible thing she has done that I could take with me and say she really has done something. I finally just walked away.
Peggy, have you voted for Trump yet, or would you like to hear about some of his achievements? I'm on a train but for starters you could google "Wollman Rink"
Peggy, what about Hillary going out of her way to adopt and treat as one of her own, Bill's son Danny? And being a grandmother to Danny's kids the same way she is for Chelsea's. Not that many women would do that -- think of Catelyn Stark and Jon Snow.
I have 4 very solid, very successful folks in my life (Wife, Doctor, Professor, Business owner) all of whom voted for Romney in 2012, none of whom are voting for Trump next month.
They are:
1. Voting Gary Johnson or 2. Not Voting
I say by doing that, they are helping Hillary, who hates them, wants to tax them, wants to destroy their jobs, wants to indoctrinate their kids with warmed-over leftism. They say, well, Trump is loud, vulgar and obnoxious, and California is already in the bag for Hillary anyway, so it doesn't matter.
I say, "If it doesn't matter, then write in "David Duke."
They say, "Well, that's crazy."
I say, "Pretend it matters. Pretend you're a Florida citizen circa 2000, genuinely on the fence between Gore and Bush. Pretend that you have to get the vote right or your country and your family suffers."
They say, "Ok, but we can't vote for Trump."
I say, "Does that mean you're voting for Hillary?"
They say, "We didn't say that."
And it goes on and on and on......
If you are right of center or middle of the road, vote for Trump.
I have several rich friends, all voting for Hillary and can't imagine why the people who live along the highway in trailers and double-wides would want to symbolically, anyway, throw a Molotov Cocktail through the White House window by voting for Trump. As far as I am concerned, Trump can bulldoze 1600 Pennsylvania Ave and build a black and gold tower of condos for yuppies on the site.
Whoever wins, we wake up fucked. It's every man for himself after this election.
Here's my comment - don't get syphilis, ever. Gonorrhea aint no walk in the park and both involve a shot, the one(s) for syphilis are bad.

NEW YORK (AP) — Infections from three sexually spread diseases have hit another record high.
Chlamydia (kluh-MID’-ee-uh) was the most common. More than 1.5 million cases were reported in the U.S. last year, up 6 percent from the year before.
Nearly 400,000 gonorrhea (gah-nuh-REE’-uh) cases were reported, up 13 percent. And there were about 24,000 cases of the most contagious forms of syphilis, up 19 percent.
The three infections are treatable with antibiotics.
Officials at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say part of the growth may be due to better testing and diagnosis, but much of it is a real increase. They’re not sure why.
The CDC released the new numbers Wednesday.
An estimated 20 million cases of sexually transmitted infections occur each year in the U.S.

Are there tiny hermits?
Yes. And they all have tiny British accents. Mancunian, to be precise.
I am snuggled in. Housebound today watching classic B-film noir on TCM. Should provide a nice segue to the bête noire this evening.

Could Plato have gotten in this cave?
I'm afraid it might be inhabited by tiny trolls.
I happily voted for Trump. He doesn't have blood on his hands.

You are perpetuating a lie.......he was not killed by a moose. He slipped and drown in the bathtub while testing his cello scrub method. The moose story was to cover up the fact that the woman cellist was not his wife

We went to early voting today. It was a traffic jam. "Trump's Base" seems to be twice as big as the Polls keep saying say it is.
Trump can chalk up Georgia.

I don't have my ballot yet.
