"I think you and I should have had a sexual relationship a long time ago and then you’d be good and better and I’d be good and better."

Said Roger Ailes to Gretchen Carlson, according to her sexual harassment lawsuit.

I've seen enough BS sex harassment allegations (not just unproven, but proven to be BS) to be generally skeptical, so I'll wait and see how this one plays out. Let's see what evidence and testimony come out on this (if it's not settled early).

This means Roger's current pet it girl, Megyn Kelly, is safe until she ages.He never ages.

Roger wants to keep up with Ruppert who just bought him another it girl. The old Lions must keep their female prides under control, or just go off and die.

Eric the Fruit Bat म्हणाले...

Wikipedia tells me she used to be Miss America and that she's relatively short, something of an overachiever, then.

An internet image search tells me she has the sort of looks that suggest a sexual relationship would largely involve her administering oral sex, to be followed by coitus in the well-established positions, then she gets on her knees and the man stands above her, masturbates, and then ejaculates on her face.

Game over.

David Begley म्हणाले...

Unless she has better evidence than in the Complaint, she's sunk. Just a single one-on-one conversation is weak tea.
And I like Gretchen on TV.

But what many are now thinking is that Megyn Kelly et alia slept their way to the top. Unfair to all concerned.

Roger is just jealous of Donald Trump. No one ever said publicly ," That was the best sex I ever had " about Roger Ailes. Privately all the time on his casting couch.

But obviously Megyn learned how to fake admiration for powerful men and good got better for her. And she gets to take
out her anger on Trump. Gretchen sues the bastards.

Convenient timing. This distancing from Fox opens up a large percentage of potential new employers who would normally consider her prior employment disqualifying.

William म्हणाले...

What would be considered mild flirtation in someone who looks like, say, Robert Redford, comes across as sexual harassment when acted out by someone who looks like Roger Ailes. From the looks of him, Roger has some impulse control problems, but they're probably more directed at the pastry cart than at the on-air talent.......The charges have some credibility, and you can bet that they'll be given far more publicity than the early rape allegations against Bill Cosby. A tactful silence now surrounds David Letterman's improprieties.

Also, as there does not appear to be any sort of statute of limitations on this sort of thing, can I bring suit against the 8 year old girl that kissed me on the playground when I was in first grade? She NEVER asked my permission! She just ran up to me, professed her love and kissed me on the cheek and than ran off! I [now] feel so violated! In addition, as I was underage at the time, this might qualify as statutory rape! Where is MY justice?

Sure, I am just a cis-normal, hetero male BUT that was not known at the time (as I was so young, my sexuality was still forming) and [based on current rules] that could still change!

Where is MY justice?!?

Psota म्हणाले...

People say "if only we had been lovers..." Or "if only we had slept together..." Or "what we needed was a good f***"

They don't make oddly clinical statements about a putative "sexual relationship." That only works when you are drafting a complaint and want to make sure you allege specific facts for your cause of action.

n.n म्हणाले...

First, there is a presumption of innocence in civilized societies. Second, the female chauvinist political movement has created a presumption of fraud. Furthermore, in light of the State-established Pro-Choice Church, it would be unreasonable and irrational to accept the allegations on face value.

Writ Small म्हणाले...

Much of what people are speculating about is contained in her complaint.

Mr. Ailes quoted comment was not made in an effort to proposition her. It was made at the end of things after she had refused him repeatedly. She also addressed the issue of ratings. She says she was moved to the afternoon show as punishment for refusing Ailes. She had more work, being the sole host, for less pay. Despite this, she says she steadily improved the ratings of her time slot. It would be unusual for her lawyers to put that in the complaint if it were not true since it is easily verifiable.

The weakest parts of her complaint were the accusations against Doocy. She described as "sexual harassment" his ignoring her and treating her as less than a full team member - "mocking" and "shunning" her off camera. Upsetting, sure, but how it that "sexual?" Then again, I'm no lawyer.

Well, if it makes it to trial it'll come down to who gives more believable testimony (in the absence of other evidence, or the claim failing to survive a motion for summary judgment). FOX may have reason to fight this one out rather than settle if they're worried about their reputation and believe they can defeat this at trial.

They should program a virtual reality computer game called Entertainment Honcho. It could have many variations. In the Hollywood version, you could get to play around with under aged children. In the Fox version, you get to fool around with the on air talent. The Fox version would appeal to an older, better educated demographic. I would definitely choose the Fox version, but the David Letterman VR would have definite possibilities. To increase verisimilitude and suspense, I would incorporate a high powered lawyer into the game. But here's the kicker. She's very attractive and wants her own show. If the player plays the joy stick properly, she can be maneuvered into a threesome with the plaintiff, or alternately, you lose the suit and game over.....I'm sure that in th future VR games will become immeasurably better, and reality will continue to suck.

Never knew Gretchen was a former Miss America.

Naturally, I went to the Wikipedia page for Miss America winners, to see who the other three winners might be, with whom Roger Ailes claimed to have had sex. At 76, Ailes requires going back a great many years.

Somebody -- knowing that I am a frequent viewer, and frequent critic of FNC -- asked me if Gretchen was a major player at FNC. I told her I barely ever saw her. That she was third-string. That is partly because I watch so little morning/daytime tv.

If they didn't fire Bill O'Reilly for wanting to lather up a producer's naked body in the shower with a "falafel" [sic-"loofah"] -- and being caught on audiotape making the suggestion -- they sure as hell aren't going to fire Roger Ailes for suggesting that it would have been a really great idea for Gretchen to have considered having sex with Ailes.

I don't have any comment on this story other than so far it sounds like "a he said, she said" situation in absence of any other proof. I know little about Roger Ailes and even less about Gretchen Carlson. I never saw her afternoon show and the handful of times I've had the misfortune of catching a few minutes of Fox and Friends I found it to be cringe inducing brainless drivel. Not that all the other morning shows aren't brainless drivel as well, but it's especially insulting since it's supposed to be the only one with the conservative bent. It's like watching an SNL sketch mocking conservative stereotypes, except it's depressingly all too real.

As I've said before, the only shows on FNC that are worth a damn are The Five and Special Report with Bret Baier.

What a nice non-sequitur! The conservative movement is falling apart because Trump isn't a conservative...and Trump isn't doing well so that means, ah, conservatism is getting worse?
You're on much better ground when you say the party (as in, GOP) is coming apart, but the evidence of that should be that Trump won the primary but is not a conservative (and the GOP was formerly controlled by the conservative moment, in this telling)...almost the opposite of what you articulate here!

My heart goes out to a man like Roger Ailes who has been so overtly discriminated against for so many years, especially by Miss America winners. Was this sexual harassment or an inarticulate protest against the callous treatment that was inflicted on him?

The stuff about Doocy and Kilmeade is minor. They have to banter; it’s what they get paid to do. That and a multitude of chef and food segments. But here’s what drew my eye:

At times, quotes that seem lifted verbatim, as if from a recording, appear in the lawsuit, prompting many media watchers to wonder whether Carlson’s lawyers have recordings of Ailes.

If she has him on tape he’s screwed. If he said what she’s alleging he said he deserves to be screwed.

I think you and I should have had a sexual relationship a long time ago and then you’d be good and better and I’d be good and better," adding that "sometimes problems are easier to solve” that way.

New York (where I presume they all work) and New Jersey (where Ailes resides, and where the lawsuit has been filed are both one-party consent states. That is, a party to a conversation on the phone or in person can record that conversation and not tell the other party, without violating state wiretapping laws.

And yet, as I mentioned above, Bill O'Reilly was on tape, too. With a FNC producer, no less. (Not just some ordinary Manhattan bar floozie.) So it was definitively a workplace-harassment situation. Although O'Reilly may not have been her direct supervisor in fact. (Interestingly, O'Reilly was quoted as saying that Ailes would essentially have his back and she'd get fired by Ailes if she told anybody about BillO.)

My feeling is that all female heroines are Mary-Sue's [=perfect in every way] at this point, to be perfectly honest with you. The minute they start fighting and beating up men and knocking and punching men and man goes flying across the room I just think like that's not what women do and that's not where their super-powers are. I'm perfectly happy to follow a female heroine if I can at least relate to her, plus, it doesn't help women, because the funny thing about women is that they look at Barbie and think "I don't have a nice body," Men look at Superman and think "You know, I'm just like that." The insecurity comes from within, so I don't think it helps. But I really think that Mary-Sue's are a actual problem with all heroines in superhero movies especially.

Who ever says "good and better"?

1. It's a term in descriptions of workplace practices e.g.
"Good" - Ethics values are included in the company’s mission statement
"Better" - Company’s leadership leads by example by consistently demonstrating company’s values through actions. (Hmm, Ailes may have been trying to do that)

2. PepsiCo's Hello Goodness™ Vending Initiative Offers Diverse Selection Of Good- And Better-For-You Food And Beverage Products

3. Between Good and Better is a movie described by a reviewer, (who is or is not Laslo's cousin) as:
"This is the story about man who don't know what to do with his life because has almost everything. If man has everything in property than discomposure can come and fall down is incipient! Boris is flying over his life undaunted and unlimited but sudden pain force him to slowdown."

4. "Which road will you take? When it comes to the service industry, specifically the carpet cleaning industry, there is a stark contrast between just good and better." (The White House will be calling them in January)

5. There is a book - People Styles at Work...And Beyond: Making Bad Relationships Good and Good Relationships Better. "At work, and in other spheres of life, how well you relate with others affects your ability to get things done. What you may not realize is that all people exhibit one of several different behavioral “styles,” which determine how they think, make decisions, communicate, manage time and stress, and deal with conflict. By understanding which “people style” you’re dealing with, you can establish rapport with someone more easily, become more persuasive, and avoid miscommunication and the possibility of rubbing someone the wrong way." (So that's what happened)

Your examples of "good and better" as common usage made me envision a drowning man, gasping for air. You need lots of work to be a bullshit artist like Obama.

When Roger Ailes has a real chance of sleeping in the White House I'll worry about this. In the meantime the convicted perjurer and sexual harasser Bill Clinton just might.

Its good to see the liberals and MSM finally being concerned about sexual harassment.

Because I thought everyone sexually harassed their employees and lied about it.

Ooops, that was Bill Clinton.

Bad memory.

Carlson's case is a perfect display that sexual harassment is 99% a display of power over a woman to meet a man's ego needs. That is mean and rude and terribly unfair if the woman is married.

Ailes at his age is not seeking a hot afternoon of sex with this married woman. He has a younger Megyn Kelly who will do that. He is simply bullying her with an assertion that she should be sexually submissive to him.

Meanwhile Murdoch recently brought in his son to try to sort of become Ailes' boss. This case is the perfect opportunity for the son to get rid of Big Daddy's main icon that gets all the credit, and he will do it by agreeing to a nice settlement so he can blame the loss on Ailes.

Gretchen has parlayed this into a big payday.

Darrell म्हणाले...

Carlson's case is a perfect display that sexual harassment is 99% bullshit. Those words prove that Ailes is an asshole, not a sexual predator. Verdict: Judgement for Carlson, $100.

Artists ought be given leeway they earned, righteously.

Beta earned a bunch, but frankly I didn't trust myself to endorse Ted Cruz until after he lost because of what I think my reputation must be among those I respect. Nothing isn't high--it's impossible--for a standard not known as fearful silence.

I would literally cry if I knew beta started consciously thinking of himself and not The World.

Beta has exhibited more "flow" than most any* man* I've ever read. Truth hurts. Bliss/ignorance calculations. Cursed knowledge.

**I shan't put the word "other" where some may feel it properly lies in the sentence so as to not contribute toward some falsified twisted ideology claiming xenophobic, tribal hatred of the "other" is bad when they do it but not me and us and our kind of folks.

Guildofcannonballs म्हणाले...

"for anyone, really what is the point of moderation, if he can go tasmanian devil at any time?"

The point is there is no point, just the concept of a point we must define by/of/for ourselves and our kin and progeny, and I thank you for pointing that out so adeptly* Sir.

*I bitch and moan about auto-correct, but it has, and did also so here, saved my hide many a time.

Thanks Ann for seizing on the lowest level story in the news. Carlson got ahead on her looks and sex, and now she is complaining. She is an air head and it doesn't take 5 min of her "opinions" to see that.
I come to this site thinking I will get insightful opinion. Mostly Ann chooses trivia.

Make a safe space for women. Needs a menstruation tag.

damikesc म्हणाले...

Hillary could have hardly timed this better to help reinforce her war on women theme.

...except her husband allegedly raped a woman and she got a rapist off once. It's not a winning argument. Attack Trump over the actions of Ailes, after Trump has lambasted FNC repeatedly, and he'll go back over Bill's indiscretions and her protection and enabling of all of it.

Tim, if Fox News decides to focus on Bill's sexual issues of the 1980's while ignoring Roger Ailes' current lawsuit that's not going to work as well as you think.

Doesn't matter what FOX does. Trump is the issue. He has nothing to do with this, but Hillary is deeply tied to Bill's repeated problems.

...and as we saw with Letterman, it's not like networks don't have these problems and don't routinely ignore them...

Did Ailes do it? Maybe. I'd like to see the evidence.

Mark म्हणाले...

Damikesc, it's not that they can go against Trump with it, it's that Fox cannot dwell on Bill without clearly being hypocrites.

I would guess most young people are going to look at stories of what Bill did before they were born being delivered by a station with a current harassment culture and see it for the squirrel it is.

Keep telling yourself this is good for the right, just like you tell yourself the polls are wrong. Enjoy the results in November.

rhhardin म्हणाले...

and she got a rapist off once

Misguided. You can't convict someone unless it's against the best possible defense.

The best possible defense is necessary.

Jaq म्हणाले...

She didn't have to laugh about getting the rapist off.

damikesc म्हणाले...

Damikesc, it's not that they can go against Trump with it, it's that Fox cannot dwell on Bill without clearly being hypocrites.

Any reason why?

The actions of one employee of the company, no matter how high up, doesn't mean ALL of the employees did it.

"Well, your boss allegedly did the same thing" is an asinine claim to make to any employee. Especially when you're comparing it to a woman who DIRECTLY assisted and protected her husband.

Misguided.

Irrelevant.

Did she do it?

Yes?

Then why the fuck should we try and DEFEND her actions? Does she defend Trump using bankruptcy law to his benefit? No.

Stop fucking shielding her.

She got a rapist off. Period. It's not unfair to mention it. It's not unfair to ask a "feminist" who thinks rape is really awful why did she defend a rapist in court and protect another one who lives in her house? How many other feminists have worked so hard to protect multiple rapists?

Bob Ellison म्हणाले...

Probably no electricity. Too many trees around her power lines...

Honda EU2000i is a nice source of electricity. Mine has worked over a decade for use when needed to keep the computers going. After three days of course the phone company substation dies and it's academic, internetwise.

Add Stabil to the gas, if it's a new engine. (Stabil may dislodge gunk in old engines which may plug things up.)

I don't think I've ever been without power long enough to feel the need to invest in a generator. 30 hours was the longest -- didn't even lose the food in the freezer (this was a summer outage).

But I don't need a/c -- I might feel differently if I lived down south, though my brother in the Deep South doesn't have one, that I know of. Maybe if I were in the middle of the woods somewhere up here and needed power for water. But I don't need power to have water, or to light my stove (which tells you how old my stove is!), so I'm content to endure any power outages.

But this 24-hour Althouse Outage? It's testing my coping abilities :)
