... I felt so uplifted, I questioned all the time I've devoted to following politics. Before I woke up, got out of bed, and read the news today, oh boy, I thought I'd spend the first hours of this new day sifting through the results of the Little Tuesday primaries. Donald Trump even won Hawaii. He has a big hotel there, let me tell you. Bernie burned Hillary in Michigan. But you know that, whether I write about it or not. I'd love to turn you on with a fresh new insight for 2 or 3 of the 6 presidential candidates right now, but the sun is coming up, the sky is blue, it's beautiful, and so are you....
I'm thinking of this blog's old subtitle: "Politics and the aversion to politics, law and law school, high and low culture, and the way things look from Madison, Wisconsin."

And you are a easy day's drive to Canada. Handy should either Trump or Clinton be elected.
*love*
"Donald Trump even won Hawaii. He has a big hotel there, let me tell you." Depends on what the meaning of "has" is.
I'd like to read your comments on what it takes to write a book, Professor. That's such a long format! How do you approach it?
The first song George Martin produced for the Beatles in 1962: How Do You Do It? ... wasn't released until 1995!
RIP
Bernie may have destroyed Hillary in MI, but she has an even larger lead in delegates because she swept MS. Trump is in the same boat as he slowly pulls ahead. Wait till next week.
@Jimmy One post down, in the George Martin discussion, I have a video clip of Martin discussing that history (including Paul's explanation of why they didn't want that to be their song (and why the song went to Gerry and the Pacemakers)).
... you should go out and play...
Reviewing our conclusions again, it appears Clinton often used highly technical language to obscure the salient fact that her private email setup was highly unusual and flouted existing regulations.
"There's no there there...." and yet. Oh yeah, "regulations," not to mention "laws."

"...I questioned all the time I've devoted to following politics. Before I woke up, got out of bed, and read the news today, oh boy"
Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band, 14 August 1978
Beatles – A Day In The Life Lyrics
I read the news today, oh boy
About a lucky man who made the grade
Woke up, fell out of bed
Dragged a comb across my head
Found my way downstairs and drank a cup
Wow! I had forgotten how good the early Beatles' songs actually were.
Gonna be 70 in NJ today.
Oh boy.
but the sun is coming up, the sky is blue, it's beautiful, and so are you....
Oh.. reading this I thought Althouse is emotional and then I see the tag..
Big news coming out of Wisconsin is the revelation that Abraham Lincoln owned slaves. With that as the factual basis for legal reasoning, it changes everything. It's not as much a "Living Constitution" as it is a creative writing course.
Trump and Hillary had great nights. Let us just get on with the General.
"Big news coming out of Wisconsin is the revelation that Abraham Lincoln owned slaves."
Yeah, I saw that. Obviously, she misspoke. Jumbling up the names of the great presidents. But I guess if we're scourging our public figures, she's getting hers.
What comes across clearly was that George Martin truly lived his passion.
A lot of people talk about doing that, but Martin accomplished it at the highest level, brilliantly.
For most people, that passion cannot be as singularly focused and recognized as producing great or popular art.
What I see in Althouse's former blog subtitle is an encapsulation of her rather complex passions.
A nice time to thank Althouse for sharing her talent and passion, with the hope that we reader/commenters have helped make it real.
But I guess if we're scourging our public figures...
A shame that's only a figure of speech. If literal I think it could go a long way toward fixing what's fucked up with this country.
"Obviously, she misspoke." Maybe so. I don't know the woman as well as you do, but why did she "obviously" "misspeak"? What makes you think she wasn't simply an ignorant fool trying to score a political point with a convenient falsehood?
Hippies are the sweetest people! Until they feel the Bern and then the banks are on fire.
Yesterday it was blood on the sidewalk. Today, blue skies!
What an awesome place to visit, I swear.
I know you are in a nostalgic philosophical mood, and I don't blame you, but expectant blog readers hold out hope you might subject the Donald's, um, interesting "press conference" from last night to a proper fisking. Could become a genre unto itself.
You and me berning matches
Lifting latches on our way back home
Feel ....the....Bern!
"I'd like to read your comments on what it takes to write a book, Professor. That's such a long format! How do you approach it?"
It takes years to write a thousand pages, give or take a few. You can make it longer if you like the style or change it around, but you have to want to be a writer.
"... but expectant blog readers hold out hope you might subject the Donald's, um, interesting "press conference" from last night to a proper fisking. Could become a genre unto itself."
If you're really trying to tempt me in that direction, you would have a hot link to the transcript. If you don't do that, how do you imagine that I'd put in the effort to fisk the whole darned thing. I'm vaguely interested, but from what I saw last night, before I walked out of the room, was a jumble of statements I'd heard before, the same old lines thrown out as if they're retrieved at random from the rucksack of his mind.

Either you don't know what "misspoke" means, or you don't know what she actually said, or you don't want to acknowledge that Kloppenstomper is an idiot. Because she did not misspeak.
She did not "jumble up the names of the great presidents." She said "President Lincoln had slaves and yet he led this country in emancipating black people from slavery.”
So she clearly meant Lincoln, unless you want to make the case that she is so fucking stupid she thinks that some other POTUS "emancipated black people from slavery."
The Beatles and the Rollong Stones basically started at the same time (early 60s); The Beatles broke up in 1970, but The Stones went on to make music for 40 more years. Yet, the Beatles were so powerful, they still top the Stones. Why is that?
It was spring, this morning, in Madison, as I went out to get the paper at 6am. Clear sunrise and a runner, in shorts, going by. Oh, and birds chirping. A great uplifter.
Living in the Midwest, tend to follow politics more in the winter because of the weather. This year's an election year so it's an order of magnitude worse. If I lived somewhere warm year round I wouldn't know who the president even was.
"If you're really trying to tempt me in that direction, you would have a hot link to the transcript." I looked for it, really I did. C-Span should have one soon, I would think.
"the same old lines thrown out as if they're retrieved at random from the rucksack of his mind." See, I don't mean to suck up or anything, but you are the one to rummage in that rucksack like no one has really done. If not now, some other time.
It's beginning to be so tedious, politics.
I love you for this.
There was a post recently lamenting the decline in poetry. I contend that it's not dead, only moved into music, and The Beatles wrote some sublime lines.
I'm even in a good enough mood to admit that some of rap and hip-hop have compelling lyrics at times. Hearing Jonathan Coulton sing Mixalot's song as a folk tune was sublime.
I meant "love" in the old-fashioned (for the '60s sense) BTW. All you need is love you know.
I'm feeling the same way about politics. I'm spending a lot more time on my other interests (running, movies, music, literature, etc.) but I do know who I support and I'm happy when I get good news regarding Cruz. But I'm much more of an interested spectator this time around. I don't think I will be that upset if things don't go my way or regardless of who wins. This primary season is a book I am half way through and taking my time on because I am enjoying it so much.
You can sing "retrieved at random from the rucksack of his mind" to the tune of "They call me on and on across the universe."
How about:
It's knowin' that your mouth is always open
but the truth is hard to find..
And it's knowing you're not shackled
By forgotten words and bonds
And the ink stains that are dried upon some line
That keeps you in the backroads
By the rivers of the memories
That that spill out of the rucksack of your mind
"He came in through the Overton Window
Protected by his silver spoon."
"Boy, you're gonna carry those bundlers...
a long time"
Curious George said..."She did not "jumble up the names of the great presidents." She said "President Lincoln had slaves and yet he led this country in emancipating black people from slavery.” So she clearly meant Lincoln, unless you want to make the case that she is so fucking stupid she thinks that some other POTUS "emancipated black people from slavery.""
LOL. Yeah, you are right.
