"Fist from Heaven" and Donald Trump owes Bill O'Reilly milkshakes.

The view from Drudge right now:

I watched the O'Reilly thing last night, so I know what that refers to. Trump — who's not doing the Fox News debate (have you heard?) — went on O'Reilly's Fox News show only to have a desperate and weird O'Reilly badger and interrupt him for 15 minutes over his already perfectly well understood decision not to do the debate, including some incoherent references to O'Reilly's have purchased a number of vanilla milkshakes for Trump... which did get a smile out of Trump... as if, yes, indeed, he does love his vanilla milkshakes. I'm taking that literally. It's not some code, is it? I know "milkshake" is a slang term, but I'd have to bend my mind to find it relevant.

As for the "fist from Heaven"... who knows? Surprised people aren't saying it's Trump's hair. Everything's Trump now, you know.

The link Drudge gives for the O'Reilly interview only has a minute of video and no "milkshake" in the text. Here's complete video:

ADDED: The milkshakes part begins at 13:39: "Would you do me a favor? Look, you owe me a, 'cause I bought you so many vanilla milkshakes, I bought you so many vanilla milkshakes, you owe me. Would you just consider, I want you to consider, all right, think about it, say, look, I [unintelligible] back, forgive, go forward, answer the questions, look out for the folks, just want you to consider it. You owe me milkshakes. I'll take them off the ledger, if you consider it."

Trump's response is: "Well, even though you and I had an agreement that you wouldn't ask me that, which we did, I will therefore forget that you asked me that... because it's an embarrassing question for you and I don't want to embarrass you."

O'Reilly admits that they had an agreement and he broke it, but he's not going to listen to "any political person" telling him not to ask something. "But," O'Reilly says, "You're absolutely an honest person, that I said 'I'll try not to do it,' but the milkshake thing just overwhelmed me."

Trump's all: "It's true. A lotta milkshakes."

Now, I guess all of today will be consumed with the nonsubject of milkshakes. Hard to add that to the "Trump's a media genius" theory. O'Reilly brought it up and belabored it. Maybe the 2 men are in league with each other. In the end, O'Reilly praises Trump for coming on the show. Nobody else would do the show under these circumstances, he says. And Trump repays the compliment and leverages himself by saying that the O'Reilly show is tougher than doing a debate with Megyn Kelly.

Don't spend a lot of time in art museums then, I see.

Anyway, I don't blame Trump for not going along with the shit that Google had planned for him. Google is the company that went all in with big data for Obama and is working on adding a "truth" dimension to search engines, to limit debate. Of course "truth" will be determined, as it always is, politically. Twitter is doing the same thing. Now that they dominate, they are asserting control.

I wouldn't mind if there was any way that Hillary could be subjected to hostile questioning in a debate, but we all know that that will never happen, the poor dear is just not up for it.

"pretty sure a blank post does not count as posting for a day..."

I deleted the posts that became incomprehensible once I got the post written.

The software has some keystroke that's easy to hit accidentally that publishes a post. That could be a huge problem sometimes. Putting up a completely blank post is low on the scale of bad things that could happen, for example copying and pasting some whole article in preparation for cutting it down into a few short quotes that will be blocked and indented and then just publishing it unedited, unmarked as a quote, and looking like it's my writing.

I guess the worst would be having a draft that says something awful that needs rewriting, but I don't have first drafts like that, I don't think.

Fox News needs its conservative viewers. If they lose that brand, reducing it to establishment GOP, who will watch? It's not aimed at Washington insiders, except to the extent that those characters are interested in affecting the masses. If ordinary people don't watch, their business model is blown. This debate dust-up is much bigger for Fox than for Trump. They doubled down and got hardcore trying to push Trump back. If it doesn't work, they are badly exposed. Trump loves the numbers — the polls, the ratings. I'm sure he'll keep us informed about the effect on Fox's ratings.

Good opportunity for the other news networks to become "fair and balanced" and include the Trump-style conservatives and moderates.

I think women see through that pretty quickly. It doesn't work, women actually like actual men, however, I am OK if my wife doesn't bring me a sandwich every time my stomach rumbles like she may have in my dad's generation. I don't mind cleaning up the kitchen sometimes, though I would rather rake leaves and mow the lawn or split wood, or brushhog, or whatever. This doesn't make my life terrible.

I guess what I am trying to understand is what is "the problem"?

And I haven't watched Fox News even for a grand total of a half hour in the past couple of years.

Two more unthinkable aspects of a Trump presidency:

1. All the New York focus on his celebrity friends. Think of the deals he will do with his NY buddies. Goldman Sachs will move into the Lincoln bedroom full time. Screw Wisconsin.

2. Just get into your mind's eye how the current Mrs. Trump will redecorate our White House. Puke.

Good reasons! Stop the Trump drama.

FOX wants to be able to putting its finger on the scale for pro-amnesty Rubio, without any cost in terms of conservative viewership. Clearly there is an opening for another media outlet to steal those viewers, but I would guess that the likely candidates, such as Breitbart, lack the resources to take much advantage and FOX's monopoly position will remain largely unchallenged. So this battle ends in pretty much a draw with neither Trump's nor FOX's position greatly altered.

Trump is not even the kind of President I'd normally be looking for but, God Damn, he knows how to stick in their eye. BEGGING. He had Bill f*****g O'Reilly on his hands and knees begging him.

Game. It's just ... walk away/leave game. Don't like the frame, one option, get up and leave. He left.

While I've been hoping declining viewership would kill off some of the leftie networks or motivate them to shift to more politically neutral content, cable news doesn't depend enough on ad revenue for this to happen. Despite overall declining cable subscriptions the news networks still receive a small slice of a very large licensing revenue pie. Profit margins are still quite high. Even if they weren't they are tied to parent companies with deep pockets and revenue streams from football.

Viewers have to put up with agenda driven content so long as there's sugar daddies willing to support it.

The only news is that Fox and Google planned to ambush Trump with three "Muslim activists" at the "debate" and he found out about it.

Thanks for pointing that out. In fact it deserves citation, which is provided below:

http://tinyurl.com/hhnnt8w

http://tinyurl.com/h8wpolm

Below is some text from the articles:

FOX News and Google invited a radical Muslim activist, a Bernie Sanders supporter, a Black Lives Matter supporter and a Mexican illegal immigrant to the debate to confront Donald Trump. It’s crazy, isn’t it, that Democrat operatives and activists were, in essence, invited to protest Trump mid-debate.

And this elsewhere:

FOX News and Google invited a radical Muslim activist, a Bernie Sanders supporter, a Black Lives Matter supporter and a Mexican illegal immigrant to the debate to confront Donald Trump.

It looks like Fox had quite a show planned for a big Trump take-down just before the Iowa caucuses. Lefty activists try to do this at Trump rallies but are promptly thrown out on the street before they can get started with their sad, desperate political theater. But Fox decided to put them up on the podium. No wonder Trump is pissed.

Trump's vulgarity and drama are only two reasons to not vote for Trump. The main reason is he is no conservative.

Thanks for reminding us, as Ann Coulter would say:

Conservative pundits keep assuring clueless viewers that Trump is not a "real Republican." They seem not to grasp that most viewers are saying, That's fantastic! Thanks for reminding me. (I look forward to conservative talk show hosts 20 years hence billing themselves as "Trump Republicans.")

If FOX was going to bring those plants to the debate and Trump knows about it, he could in fact use his knowledge to show how FOX was trying to ambush him AT THE DEBATE.
Ask Meghan if she knew these people were in fact plants ahead of time. He could have done a lot worse damage by calling them out at the debate.

As for what they are, I don't see how those are necessarily even damaging Trump. A black lives matter activist? All the candidates should weigh in on black lives matter and show how extremist it actually is as a stance. The muslim activist? That could get the candidates to talk about what's happening in Cologne and Europe. The Mexican illegal immigrant? That gets them to talk about illegal immigration. The Bernie Sanders supporter wanting super big govt? That gives all the repubs a chance to slam Bernie Sanders and his ridiculous views.
In other words, even if they are plants, they are asking questions that Republicans can have answers for.
They are certainly going to be asked about black lives matter, and muslims and Immigration at the debate with democrats, right?

And the ideology of the guy who stumped hard for the $1 Trillion dollar boondoggle called the financial panic of '08 by declaring that a worldwide economic collapse and depression would result if they didn't, then followed that with the $900 Billion dollar bait and switch called The Stimulus by declaring that America's roads and bridges were in desperate and dangerous conditions, and that it was absolutely imperative that billions of dollars be spent to restore them while bolstering the economy by adding tens of thousands of "shovel-ready jobs". 8 years later and the same crooks and liars are still lamenting the state of our bridges and highways, and the main doom-and-gloomer laughed out loud about how those shovel-ready jobs weren't so ready after all....ha-ha-ha, just kidding America, thanks for the trillions, see ya, wouldn't want to be ya....

It depends somewhat on ad revenue, otherwise they would be showing something much cheaper to produce on that channel. If they didn't want to draw viewers, an infinite loop of a cymbal-playing monkey would do as well as paying a few hundred expensive salaries plus millions to "talent" like O'Reilley.
And viewers also determine the cost-benefit of the cost to keep the channel on. Beyond aboveboard payouts for ads, these channels/shows are political assets that offer value in trades for favors for the owners.

Imagine if Fox had relented and let Trunp pick which journalists could and could not participate in media events.

Careful selection of words here, readers. Notice it’s “media events,” instead of “debate.” No mention of the childish, awkward, insulting statement that was released by Fox. No mention of the activist ambush Ailes and Kelly had planned for Trump. If Trump knew about the activists he had a right to be pissed. If he didn’t he has the right to be even more pissed at Fox’s dirty tricks subterfuge. It’s supposed to be a debate, not a circus with dirty tricks sprung in the center ring by Ring Master Kelly.

But I want to attack this assumption from a different direction. The truth is that these events they label as “debates” are nothing more than group interviews. Real debates usually feature two speakers going head to head and have different rules than these interviews do.

The question for me then becomes does a candidate get to pick who interviews the candidate.

The answer is: They certainly do – by custom and by right, the exception perhaps being a “town hall” type of event. But even in a town hall activists should be thrown out if they attempt to disrupt the proceedings. Fox wanted to feature these assholes.

And then the label of “journalists.” Megyn Kelly doesn’t meet that standard which is why she was the star moderator at the first debate and who was given a question impossible to defend. That first debate, as is this one upcoming were designed to give Kelly credibility and gravitas as a “journalist.”

Trump had no chance at all with that question from Kelly in the first debate. Remember, readers, there were several “examples” of Trump’s alleged improper attitude toward womankind flung at Trump by Ms. Kelly in that one question. To try to explain each incident cited would have required Trump spend a lot of precious time outlining the context of each remark, explaining relationships in depth, his own state of mind, etc. ad infinitum. It was a loaded question designed like a shotgun round loaded with buckshot to leave Trump without a chance in hell to defend himself. And maybe that’s why Trump is no longer going to play Fox’s games. He cannot be trifled with like previous GOP candidates who go to these “debates” like a cow led into the slaughter pen by hostile “moderators” such as Candy Crowley.

The cascade is coming.

As for the main Fox debate – something I will be looking for to happen are those activists that Fox was going to unleash at the debate before Trump pulled out. Apparently the activists were a closely guarded secret. If those activists, which I think were cooked up solely to derail Trump, are not trotted out to question the candidates at the Fox debate I believe that will prove that Fox was out to get Trump by using dirty tricks.
