This guy here has front row seats to the biggest play of the year and he's checking his phone. pic.twitter.com/g6SGZPuimu— Parker Hageman (@ParkerHageman) December 4, 2015
ADDED: To be fair, maybe he got a message that's more important than that touchdown, e.g., "It's a boy!"

It will still be a boy after the catch. (I know, that's very cisnormative of me.)
The Lions played that so poorly you would think a fix was in. No one was near Rodgers in the end zone. Pathetic.
I know Packer fans are all giddy but you shouldn't be. Another poor performance. You're in trouble.
Which brings up the question if "it's a boy!" is so important why is he at the game and not at the hospital anxiously awaiting news of his wife?

I was thinking: grandfather.
Do grandfathers attend baby deliveries? I wouldn't think they were wanted on the scene.
Judging by his outfit and where he is, he might not be a fan at all. He might be looking at his phone because he's on the job and that's what's relevant at that moment.
He's a Lion's fan and didn't want to see that ugly finish
I only caught the last few minutes, and I thought that was a Hollywood movie. The imaginary facemask penalty to extend the game as a gift by the NFL referees had to be scripted by the NFL Network.
Good game Mr Rogers.
Not being a grandfather I have no idea whether they tend to follow deliveries that closely, but judging from my own temperament I think I'd be able to wait for the network TO to check my messages.

Heh! Urgent! Beer shortage at Concession Station 9! Rectify stat!
He was checking Aaron Rodgers' Wikipedia page to see if Rodgers is Catholic. If Catholic, then it's a " Hail Mary". Otherwise, just a plain old "Alley Oop".
To be fair, maybe he got a message that's more important than that touchdown, e.g., "It's a boy!"
"He's out of town. Coast is clear."
He doesn't look old enough to be a grandfather, even by downmarket Detroit standards.
He was arranging to pick up his winnings from the bet he made that Detroit would beat the Packers.

Meh. It sure looked like a horse collar tackle anyway. 15 yards and an extra play either way. What the ref saw was contact with the facemask and then Rodger's head jerked down (because of the horse collar tackle).
It's a boy! That what Mary said too. So full circle that analogy.
Horse collar tackles are done from behind and not from the front.
Maybe he was trying to take a picture with his phone?
Which brings up the entirely different issue of trying to document your experiences rather than experiencing them.
As a Lions fan of 40+ years standing, the "miracle" was just another day at the office. It's impossible for Lions fans to enjoy anything because they're always waiting for the other shoe to drop. (Last night, an entire shoe factory dropped on us!)
Sigh.
If you look at the photo of the defense just before the Rogers-to-Rogers catch, Detroit has six defenders in the end zone, only one of whom is actually in front of one of the Packers' receivers -- and then just barely. Three of them are not even close to being near a receiver and two were only going to make a play only if Aaron Rogers Hail Mary went to the back end of the end zone (from a quarterback who was 70 yards away from the goal line when he released the throw).
Really, some of the most incompetent late-game pass defense ever (and meanwhile, the poor Cleveland Browns fans now can't even claim to have suffered the worst final play loss of the week, let alone the season after how the Lions finished off Thursday's game).
