"They are citizens of Irving, Texas, USA, first. Are they devout people devoted to their faith? Absolutely. But they are Texans, too, and they want to come home. What we are seeking is for them to be able to do that with their heads held high."
Says the lawyer representing Ahmed Mohamed (the "clock kid") who wants $15 million.

We do not want his sorry little ass back in Texas. Don't like Qatar? Oh Dad, how sad.
"Cool clock, Ahmed! Want to bring it to the White House?"
Ranks right up there with "You might want to put some ice on that".
What a legacy Democrats are building.
While Qatar Gently Weeps.
I am Laslo.
$15 million? Nope.
I'm guessing he's flunking out of that elite school that gave him a scholarship. His "clock project" wasn't much of an engineering feat, and in Qatar he's just another little Muslim kid so he needs to actually be smart for people to treat him like he is.
They should move to Syria. Sure, it's not Texas, but it's not Qatar, either, and it's Islamically correct.
No, no, it's not a set up, it wasn't exaggerated for effect, it wasn't thought out, this poor kid just got victimized.
Damn I hope some people put some money up to defend this turkey instead of just settling quietly....the discovery would be so very interesting!
Qatar is nice, but it's not Texas.
Translation: the Qataris told them in no uncertain words to STFU, get a job, and don't be a pest to anyone over here. "If we wanted this place to be America, it would be, and it isn't. So, take the hint."
I think Clock Boy is going to start Armageddon.
The whole thing was just a scam.
Qatar is nice, but it is not Texas.
So he prefers being "singled out because of his race, national origin, and religion" in Texas.
And They are calling the factory made clock that the Littlest Genius took apart a "homemade clock". Sigh.
If a kid who chews a pop tart into the shape that might resemble a gun or a kid who points a finger at a friend can be suspended under a zero tolerance standard can be suspended, then a kid who puts a timer in a package and takes it to school can get the same treatment
"Welcome us home and give us $10 million in taxpayer dollars."
Yea. That's going to go over well in Irving, Texas (It wouldn't even go over well on Irving Place in Manhattan....)
And we still don't really know what happened and why with the clock.
And no one seems to want to know. That's what journalism is, right, knowing what we should know and what we shouldn't?
Fuck him.
I'm convinced the whole thing was a set up from the start.
They picked the wrong state...California probably would have paid them off.
Clock Boy needs to unwind. He's too high-strung. I don't know what makes him tick. Personally, I think he's cuckoo.
Well just have to watch him.
Yeah, TX is their home! If so, why does the victimization ring leader continually run for President in Sudan?
I suppose we have to let them back in (are they U.S. citizens?).
I have an idea, lets get every individual component required to build the clock set it all on a table. If Ahmad can rebuild his clock give him the money. I am betting he would not even know how to start.
The kid and his family are black African Muslims. Africans are not treated very well in most Gulf states - it's debatable if they are second or third class residents (not citizens, certainly).
@M Jordan, I enjoyed that comment. So I grandfathered it in.
In what way, shape or form did he suffer damages remotely reaching anywhere near $15 million? In his whole lifetime he will probably never even make $15 million.
Even a broken clock is a Right of Return to a payday?
When I first saw the headline I thought that ISIS had seized the kid and was demanding a ransom. Does it make me a bad person that I was disappointed by the true story?
Lawyers are the worst people in the world.
"That's what journalism is, right, knowing what we should know and what we shouldn't?"
Perhaps in theory. In practice it is deciding what we should know and what we shouldn't.
"I suppose we have to let them back in"
Can we let in a dozen or two Syrian refugees instead?
Let me see if I have this right. We're supposed to pay $15 MILLION to get him back??? I'll bet for only a tiny fraction of that we could bribe Qatar to keep him.
15 mil is a lot of money to make clocks with...clocks right?
First of all, the "clock kid" doesn't really want any of this. He's a patsy, a stooge, -- for his gold digging father and his father's pet grievance groups. I called this within minutes after Althouse first posted this hoax: link
Why not let Brin or Zuckerberg cut him that check instead?
Oh, it came out of the sky, landed just a little south of Moline.
The white house said, "put the thing in the blue room".
The Vatican said, "No, it belongs to Rome."
And Ahkmed said, "It's mine but you can have it for seventeen million."
Apologies to Credence...
Who was it that argued with me when this was first reported?
Apologies always accepted.
You know who you are.
Well, it should be fun to see what discovery turns up.
Nothing says I am an American like filing a frivolous lawsuit.
I can't believe this miseraby family wants to return to the United States after all the racist filth they spewed. Put them on the no fly list, make the voyage "home" difficult.
But M Jordan, he has such a nice face--so open and easy to read. Plus he's great with is two hands--so useful. It's truly alarming how quickly everyone jumped to conclusions about what he was up to--it's sad he has to keep running and running, all the way to Qatar!
Nice Muslim family moves back to a nice Muslim country. Sounds good to me. Don't come back to America, Ahmed. We don't want you here.
Who says middle eastern people can't acclimate? Nothing says acclimation like a $15 mil lawsuit.
I'm getting an inkling why no one wants Daddy to be President of Sudan.
A Texan he ain't. The Texans I've known don't run off to Qatar or anywhere else when they experience a little trouble.
Drop them into Raqqa. When your head is disembodied, there's no limit to how high it can be held.
$15 million will buy you a shark and a motorcycle.
What's that old joke:
What's 200 lawyers at the bottom of the ocean?
Little clock boy is going to learn first hand what getting kicked to the curb feels like. Obama and the left, and the MSM are going to treat him like he has the clap.
"What we are seeking is for them to be able to do that with their heads held high"
By asking others to take it in the ass.
Journolists..stop calling it a "home made clock". It's a re-wrap at best.
"Cool clock, Ahmed! Want to bring it to the White House?"
The president tweeted stupidly.
Can we get this kid and his pop to meet Bergdahl and pop in the Rose garden?
You're trapped in a room with a tiger, a rattlesnake and a lawyer. You have a gun with two bullets. What should you do?
Shoot the lawyer. Twice.
Oh, all the pain he's suffered! Meeting Obama, if only briefly, appearing on TV, being feted in all kinds of ways. How will he ever recover? Clearly he needs $15 million to help him recover from this trauma!

A good start
This punk and his dickhead father aren't real Texans.
Look for the idiots at the Dallas Morning News to support their cause.
"“Let’s face it; if Ahmed’s clock were ‘Jennifer’s clock,’ and if the pencil case were ruby red bedazzled with a clear rhinestone skull and crossbones on the cover, this would never have happened.”
Is that the state of lawyerspeak?
Oh..it was mere weeks ago:
The family says adapting to Qatar won’t be so difficult.
“Qatar is in the Arab world, but it also feels like Texas. It’s like Texas in Qatar,” said Ahmed’s sister Eyman.

A lot of people say nasty things about lawyers, but I'll say this for us: If you sue our client for $15 million, we're going to dig pretty deeply into your claim. I don't know if the "clock" was a set-up or not, but if it was, the defendants' lawyers are going to find out.
Easy fix. Young Mr. Mohammed and his lawyers forgot to specify that the written apologies be sincere.
Just had to chime in.
Mr. Mohammed must have missed the PBS travelogue where a blonde woman praised destinations such as Qatar, while ignoring the at-minimum-stern glares of the men in the marketplace behind her.
Young Mr. Mohammed, give it time. You have a clock.
"Cool law suit, Ahmed. Want to bring it to the White House?"
Boy does a clever thing for school; gets arrested, gets vilified. Nutters thinks he was making a bomb. I have no issue with him being compensated in some way for something that would never have happened had be been a white Jebus boy.
I was beyond irritated when clock boy happened, but this lawsuit just torques me. Not sure how many outside of Texas heard about this, but here you have it...
Perhaps there is more to the story than just Ahmed?
@Mark Jeffery
You might want to educate yourself a bit more about the "clever" thing Ahmed did and the zero tolerance policy - stupid as THAT is - that is in place first of all. Second of all, please do understand that it DOES and HAS happened with "white Jebus" boys. Google it. Idiot.
The kid is being used in the terror front group CAIRs Guerilla Theater "Islamophobia" propaganda OP. His "clock" looked just like a TV briefcase bomb and didn't require any special skill to build. Of course, liberal mushheads think it's about bigotry.
Even at this late date, the papers can not get the story true. He did not "make a clock" or "build a clock" or "invent a clock". He re-packaged a clock.
They should tell him and his dad to "pound sand"...

Mayday! Mayday!
Mark Jeffery:
Stupid and filled with hate is no way to go through life. You need to talk to someone who can help.
I remember reading that the school wanted to share more information about the incident but the family refused to sign a waiver to allow them to since Ahmed is a minor. Would discovery in a lawsuit like this allow the school to finally make public something that they couldn't before? I hope the school/city fights it.
Perhaps an American art museum would be willing to pay at least $15 million for the clock. After all, it's "transgressive," which is a quality that's valued above all else in much of the contemporary art world.
Although if it's put on display it will be all too obvious that the "precocious genius" just took a screwdriver to an old digital alarm clock.
"Cool narrative manipulation, Ahmed. Want to work for the White House?"

That guy is wearing an insensitive Halloween costume!
Filing a lawsuit is really just giving up; he should be tougher, you know, take a licking and keep on ticking.
This reminds me a lot of the time that my father and I built a pinewood derby car using only the approved pinewood derby kit and it ended up shooting off the track and reaching warp speed. Things got out of hand really quick, after that.
@amielalune: at least Karen of Texas was kind enough to offer a content-based criticism before insulting me. :)
If you wish to query or argue with anything I said, feel free. Facts are fun.
"If you wish to query or argue with anything I said, feel free."
As you said, Karen offered a critique. Are you planning to respond to it?
"Jebus boy" pretty much tells anyone you're spouting at that you aren't here to discuss anything, but are just dropping by to troll the wingnuts. The question is why anyone bothers to respond to such behavior.
