Yeah, I love the dad's set-up for TV watching. Just perfect. Baseball on TV. 2 chairs. Nice company."
Huh? What is perfect about a guy sitting in a chair? The two chair with a lamp tale between is very common. I guess the perfect part is his wife isn't next to him yacking about her day.
"Bunting is hung around the terrace level while a stadium crew member, William Williams, hoses down the stands." A rare, appropriate use of a word with two divergent meanings---it's a stretch, but at least they're both in the ballpark.

I did. Dad is sitting in a chair, feet up on the ottoman. Has chips (or popcorn) in a bowl on his lap and the TV remote in his hand. Drink on the table between him and the other empty chair. What am I missing?

The table is a bookcase. There's a book on top of the table and a good reading lamp. There's a fireplace with pleasing items on the mantle. The man has slippers and a smoking jacket.
I've been a Royals fan since the late 70s. They didn't have many fans for about 25 years there because they were so bad, but now they are the most popular team in KC that I can ever remember. More so than the Chiefs, more than KU basketball, and way more than the various college football teams.
Great come from behind win today. And thank you Brewers for Cain and Escobar.
I guess with my name I should weigh in, although I did not understand the post.
Great game today. Royals four runs down at 6 to 2 with six outs left. Something like a 3% chance of winning. They score five, add two more in the 9th and win 9 to 6.
Great story lines.
Astro shortstop Correa at 21 is probably the best young player in the game. The next A-Rod. He has a great game with two home runs and a double, BUT, you never know when the Baseball Gods will turn on you. Guys are taught to watch the ball into their glove starting at about age 2. In the 8th inning, an easy ground ball is hit to Correa. So easy Ann probably could field it. But Correa takes his eye off the ball, misses an easy double play, and two runs score to tie the game. Royals get another one and then two more in 9th to win.
Next story line. Royals traded three high prospect pitchers in July to "get an ace for the playoffs." One Johnny Cueto, who has been an excellent pitcher for about five years, but is not very well liked in baseball. He also has been mediocre since coming to the Royals. Yet, Wednesday is his day. Cueto gets to start the final game of the series, loser go home. It is exactly why the Royals traded for him. He is a free agent after the season, who was expected to get a contract over $100 Million, perhaps as high as $150 Million. But his mediocrity with the Royals has diminished his value. He can retrieve it with a great game on Wednesday.
Prediction: Royals 6 and Astros 2. Cueto redeems himself. Royals head to great League Championship Series against Toronto. You heard it here.
ps The Royals did make a great trade with Milwaukee four years ago where gave up two years of Zach Greinke for five years of SS Escobar, six years of CF Cain and six years of P Odorizzi. Escobar and Cain are All Stars and mainstays of a very good Royals team (batting first and third). Odorizzi was used as part of the trade with Tampa to get players that included Cyborg Reliever Wade Davis, who has been the best relief pitcher in baseball the last two years.

Thanks for posting this. It lifted my spirits. When I first clicked through and saw it was the NYT, I was afraid it would be cowtown flyover snark.

Meanwhile, Seattle lost again.

That's the way the Coriolis Effect spins.
The inscrutable Althouse.
