Fewer titmice than usual here this year too. Undisclosed location, but we get few egrets and only two kinds of herons that I've seen. Cardinals aplenty.
I like it when Althouse posts things after supper. It means I've got stuff to look at when I get up on Eastern time. I'm seldom looking at her blog at this hour, because apart from the occasional political TV theater there's usually nothing here.
I find it very irritating when books and articles use the term "African-American" indiscriminately in historical works. Not just that I do not like the term to start with, but it clangs when authors (or editors) just use "Find and replace all," so that they have the Founding Fathers, and others even farther back in history, appear to have used the term, though it is but a recent invention by Jesse Jackson.
It is also very silly. "Negro" or "Black" is no more a slur than "Germanic," or "Celtic;" it is merely descriptive.
OTOH, I have always objected to the term "Caucasian" as I feel that gets a little too close to Hitler's "Aryan race," besides being inaccurate; the Germanic peoples did not originate in the Caucasus.
I'm a non-breeder, still saddened in watching tiny bodies being washed up on Mediterranean shores. I have to ask myself why so many of my tax dollars are spent on frivolities while kids and their refugee parents are suffering so.
Can I somehow earmark my tax dollars for the suffering kids of the world instead of for the continued miseducation of Amerikan youth who are tossing their veggies in the trash?
More confusion. Jerry Jones's new mega Stadium was built in neither municipality, but it is closer to Ft Worth than it is to Arlington. But because the Dallas team plays in it, he says it's in Arlington since Dallas sees Ft Worth as their competitor.
I think you mean that the stadium is closer to Ft. Worth than to Dallas, which is true, and not that it is closer to Ft. Worth than to Arlington, which is false. At any rate, Saturday is Saturday, not Friday. And again I say, Roll Tide. And On Wisconsin, because I have a soft spot for the Badgers.
So, I was looking at a riot picture today. Not sure which riot. Anyway, the usual maniacal angry person screaming at some cop. Face to face. The cop stoic behind his plastic shield. The lighting gave a false impression of the shield reflecting like a mirror. Which finally brings me to my point. If shields were indeed made of one way mirrored plastic,so the crazies could see their own distorted faces instead of the cops, it might remove any perceived sense of intimidation, and help keep things slightly more calm
I am irritated by the "0ur grandfathers came through Ellis Island." Actually, very few did.
Also.... They were very well documented immigrants. Today there is this fantasy that previous generations just came over and planted a stake. Not true. Not at least for those posting about anyone born after The Civil War.
In America, we are the children of immigrants and the grandparents of anti-immigrants.........There's a certain amount of peristaltic action that goes on with immigration. If too many come in too short a time, it triggers a gag reflex. Name me one immigrant group in America who weren't given a hard time by those already here. Ethnic prejudice was generally in proportion to the numbers of their immigrants. Greeks, for example, don't have any slur names attachd to their ethnicity. There just weren't enough of them to stereotype apparently. The pro defamation league should make an effort to find an appropriate ethnic slur to hurl at Greeks. It does sem unfair that they have been overlooked for so long despite their visible presence in America.
Bernie Sanders believes that the preeminent issue facing America is "income inequality." Memo to Bernie - there are other inequalities too, such as intelligence inequality, hard-work inequality, moral-compass inequality, and family inequalities. He fails to grasp that many of these inequalities often lead to income inequality.
There's a season on the sandhill crane here in Kentucky. I've talked to old timers who've had it. To a man they swore it was great eating. Might have to try it sometime. (I hope this post gets under liberals skin. First because it actually happened. And second, the sorry bastards care more about a lion dying in Africa, than the murder of babies in the womb.)
Last Sandhill Crane I saw was stuffed and mounted behind the bar in the Reese AFB (Lubbock, TX) Officer's Club. It was displayed impaled on a pitot tube. Sandys would come through on migration, and could do real damage to a T-37 or T-38.
Wierdest birds I've seen here in South Texas are the Mexican Whistling Ducks - long neck, big head, bright orange bill, and huge orange web feet.

I WANNA TALK TRUMP, SSM, AND TUFTED TITMICE!
Somehow, I love these.
Damn fine bird.
@Bob Ellison, are you saying Trump is in a same sex marriage? His partner Melania must be one heck of a cross-dresser.
Don't know what happened to our tufted titmice this year. Haven't seen any on our feeder since early spring. Lots of cardinals, though.
Nice pic -- like the colors of feathers, unusual.
We don't have Sandhill Cranes here in the east. Still, we have three different species of egret and four of five kinds of heron, so there's that.
Big Mike, no, I meant Atlantic Spanish Mackerel. Trump is said to be quite fond of them.
Our patio is alive with titmice. I'll tell them you asked after them. Maybe they'll organize a sortie your way.

Egret, I've had a few.
But then again, too few to mention...
what lake is this?
Worst language I ever heard was when the titmouse gnawed its way into my grandma's bra.

Tomorrow night Wisconsin plays in Fort Worth, while tonight TCU plays in Minneapolis. This is confusing.
Wisconsin plays Saturday night in Arlington. Roll Tide.

So Hillary's IT guy is taking the fifth. "Surprise!, Surprise!, Surprise!"

Latest PPP poll in the General:

Clinton 46, Trump 42
Trump 43, Sanders 42

Sandhill crane enclosure.
No worse feeling than piloting your c-172 and have a near miss with a bird at 1000 feet. It's amazing how fast they whiz by.
