"When Avijit Roy was murdered, the police were standing nearby and watching the spectacle. The murderers left unscathed after their act..."

"When the murderers were escaping after killing Oyasiqur Rahman Babu, the police had been standing by then too... The police were paper tigers when women were being molested one by one before an audience of thousands at the new year celebrations. They were engaged primarily in not neglecting their duty. They were busy clearing the way for the sexual offenders to escape...."

From the last blog posts of Ananta Bijoy Das, who was hacked to death by masked men with machetes in Sylhet, Bangladesh.

Every country in the world where Muslims are the majority, life is hell for non-Muslims.

Allah demands it.

There was a similar phenomenon during the Mumbai attacks when Indian police forces immediately abandoned their posts and ran from the terrorists. I'm all for legitimate and valid criticism of our police forces, but you do really learn to appreciate what we have been able to achieve in regards to law enforcement when you spend any significant amount of time in a country with incompetent police forces or worse.

If you want to discourage criticism of Muslim fundamentalism, this is a pretty effective strategy. Maybe Pamela Geller and that Ross Douthat dude have a legitimate point to make after all. http://douthat.blogs.nytimes.com/2015/01/07/the-blasphemy-we-need/?_r=0

The police generally reflect the general will of the people.
They exist on sufferance after all, and they know it.
It takes a truly disciplined and ruthless totalitarian regime to completely cow the people. Bangladesh isn't it.
If these acts were truly shocking to the population the police would have acted.
The real problem is the population.
They are what they are. It isn't popular to say so, in this society, but facts are facts.

A preview of the Sharpton-Obama DOJ consent decreed, federalized police forces?

I should have put the "consent" in quotation marks.

In every cloud there is a silver lining: if AGW is real then according to AGW theorists Bangladesh will be under water. Let the rats drown.

The supposed flooding will take decades/centuries if it happens at all. In the mean time the SJWs responsible for our immigration policy and enforcement will be letting in many of these "peaceful" asylum seekers in the name of "justice, diversity, and fairness"

The military is being trained to conquer seven States and take prisoners suspected of armed resistance to the Emergency Government Rulers in rail cars to existing HSA Detention Camps built at the end of the new Rail Lines going to the Camps.

But don't worry. That won't happen until the Day the US dollar devalues and food distribution is effectively stopped and all energy distribution is switched off to get our attention.

Hopefully after I am gone but I do fear that our future includes some of this.

In every country in the world where Muslims are the majority, life is hell not only for for non-Muslims, but also for the Muslims themselves.

Allah demands it.

A bunch of rock stars should have a concert for Ananta Bijoy Das, Avijit Roy and Oyasiqur Rahman to cancel out the Concert for Bangladesh.

I'd take anything the Atlantic writes about Feminism and Foreign countries with Mosque full of salt.

You have consistently stated that it would be bad form and gratuitously insulting to "peaceful" muslims to encourage large scale publication of blasphemous images of Mohammad.

Our failure to do so has made the brave few dissenters and refuseniks easier for the bad guys to identify and pick off - one by one.

That's why, when faced with extortionist demands backed up with a credible threat of murder, you should NEVER acquiesce - even if you believe you're complying with the demand for the "right" reasons.

Moneyrunner म्हणाले...

The Atlantic says that Das was "A writer critical of religious fundamentalism..." and that the killers were "suspected" Islamic militants. Hmmm. That leaves the door open to Baptist missionaries who, as everyone knows, wish to establish a theocracy.

Ann, don't be to hard on the police. They are exhibiting the courage of Western intellectuals. The more frightful Islam is, the more enlightened and non-judgmental Western intellectuals become.

i got a solution. nuke every fucking muslim. They all worship a child rapist and are encouraged to be like him. there is no such thing as a moderate muslim. only muslims and apostates to islam.

ps and I oppose the death penalty, but in this case there should be an exception.

@traditionalguy,

"devalue the dollar"? Do you not know that the dollar has not had an official value since 1971? There's no such thing as "devaluation" with a floating currency like the dollar.

Ignorance of basic facts like this should make you wonder about just how accurate the sources of your information are about other things they say.

Here in the Philippines, the cops are just assumed to be crooked. So every shop has a security guard, and many politicians have a lot of them.

The US kerfuffle about cops killing "innocent" known felons seems a bit hyperbolic, since when I lived there, you could trust most of them to do their job. That is not true in the third world, alas.

That said, could I defend the guys?
I suspect the cops looked the other way because they were either bribed to do so, or because they were threatened. Yes, they have guns, but few are well trained to stop an onslaught of aggressive jihadis that outnumber them...if they dare to oppose these organized religious thugs, I suspect the thugs will get back at them by attacking their families if they dare interfere.
