Hello, my name is Sadie!

That's my 2014 name. That is, that would be my name if I were born last year and my parents gave me the name that was as popular as my name was in the year that I was named. Ann was 46th most popular girl's name in 1951. My 1940s name is Josephine!

What's your 2014 name?

I'd be Wyatt.

Interesting, if I was born in the 1940s, I'd still be me.

steve uhr ayon kay ...

Levi .. hoping it would be Wrangler

Ann Althouse ayon kay ...

My sons are Alexander and Liam... and my husband is Paxton!

traditionalguy ayon kay ...

Je suis Noah. Après mois le deluge.

Why have people have gotten worse at coming up with names?

tim maguire ayon kay ...

Elijah. I don't much like my real name, but right now I'm feeling ok with it. Thank god I'm not Elijah.

sparrow ayon kay ...

Mason

Hunter ayon kay ...

Isaias?

Yeah, no.

My name was ranked 547th when I was born in 1980. Then it got super trendy about ten years later and has been popular ever since. I remember my entire childhood it was very rare to find my name on those personalized souvenir mugs and keychains. Now they're everywhere.

My brother's name, Forrest, never broke 200th place. But it got suddenly and briefly much more popular around 1994... for some reason.

Gabriel.

Bleah, Gabriel, Bleah.

Big Mike ayon kay ...

Funny, but you don't look like a Sadie. You look more like a Jennifer.

....and license plates for the back of your bike seat. I could never find my name, but my sister could always find hers.

Yes, I've never gotten over it!!

Carlos, Carlos Danger, want to see a picture?

Patrick ayon kay ...

Ha! My 2014 name is the name of one of my sons.

MayBee ayon kay ...

My 1970's name is Qiana.

Irene ayon kay ...

Adriana. But I prefer my 1990s name, Roxanne.

My 1980s name is Ginger?!

Meade ayon kay ...

Shirley Abrahamson.

But I prefer my 2014 name: Chief Shirley Abrahamson.

Graham Powell ayon kay ...

My 2014 name is Quincy. Not a bad name!

Ann Althouse ayon kay ...

Roxanne rules.

Birches ayon kay ...

Bella, ewww.

I wasn't even aware that my name was all that popular---it was 69th the year I was born. Bella definitely seems more popular than my given name, but perhaps that's because Bella is on it's way back down the list. My name's peak years hugged my birth year. Other than that, its been in the hundreds or even two hundreds. It's in the 300s right now.

Hunter

That's pretty cool!

Parker, 72 on the list.

Irene ayon kay ...

This name generator is a good source for dog names, too.

Clyde ayon kay ...

Maverick!

My name was #206 in 1960. It had dropped completely out of the top 1000 a couple of years ago, but is making a minor comeback, at #804 in 2014.

Re: Maverick

- I'm Charlotte Blackwood.
- I'm Maverick.
- Did your mother not like you?
- No, it's my call sign.

Meade ayon kay ...

If I ever get a poodle puppy, I'm naming her Irene.

mezzrow ayon kay ...

My name will never show up on that list. Ever.

clint ayon kay ...

Mind completely blown.

Clint was the 278th most popular name, back when the dinosaurs ruled the Earth.

My name today would be Titus.

NorthOfTheOneOhOne ayon kay ...

Interesting! My today name is Christopher, which is what my mother wanted to name me in 1963, but my father insisted on using an old family name.

Ron ayon kay ...

My name, Ron, is "King" today....my Twitter name is KngFish!

Wilbur ayon kay ...

I would refuse to go by the appellation of ... Karson.

With a K, for Chrissake, I mean Krissake.

Irene ayon kay ...

Meade, if you name a poodle Irene, then she will talk a lot.

Tari ayon kay ...

I'd be Alianna, which is 10,000 times more ridiculous than Tari. If my parents had kept what my birth mom named me (Nancy) I'd be Sarah today, which I quite like.

My husband would be Cyrus. Not sure how I feel about that.

Meade, if you named the poodle Irene, you could sing "Goodnight Irene" to her. My son's Homecoming date this past fall was an Irene, and I sang that song to him until he chased me around the house yelling "stop!" Parenting is so much fun.

Meade ayon kay ...

Dogs love being sung to. And best thing -- they are nonjudgmental. Hit a clinker? They act like they never heard it.

I shall teach my chatty poodle Irene the command shhh. In Italian. But mostly I'll just enjoy listening to her express her prodigious poodle intelligence.

Irene ayon kay ...

Aww, thanks Meade.

Tari, I can't count the number of times people thought it was cute to serenade me with, "Goodnight, Irene." Yuck.

I would be Weston.

But I wouldn't. Because I'd have to change my name.

Fen ayon kay ...

Uhm Sadie is a dog's name.

Johanna Lapp ayon kay ...

I would be Skye, presumably after one of the Agents of SHIELD, whose name finished higher than their TV show last year.

Johanna was in the top 400 in the U.S.in 1989, perhaps a quaint name to suit a Laura Ashley lifestyle.

I suspect it wouldn't have been in the top 2000 where I was born.

Johanna and Jo both made the cut. Skye is too new.

I do notice that Hispanic kids named Jesus and Muslim kids named Muhammad are disappponted again this year. No bottles ask you to Share a Coke with either.

Sadie was also the name of one of the Manson girls. Lots of girls had that look back then. To wit: Young Althouse

Tari ayon kay ...

Meade, I love singing to the dogs. Our older boxer favors "You are my Sunshine" - his ears go up when I sing it. Only a dog could appreciate my singing voice.

Irene, it could be worse - how about "Brandy, you're a fine girl ..." At least you can waltz to "Goodnight Irene."

Unknown ayon kay ...

Wade to Cayden. I'll stick with what momma gave me. Thanks

SteveR ayon kay ...

I was given a family name, Stephen, so it was not subject to much debate. If I was born in 2014, it would have been Stephen.

Aussie Pundit ayon kay ...

The girls' names are quite nice, with the exception of Madison.

On the other hand the boys' list is appalling. "Mason"? why?
As for Liam.... I guess millions of American parents are embracing their Celtic heritage, or something.

Ann Althouse ayon kay ...

Sadie has a Beatles song.

Also a Barbra Streisand song.

Hindi-nagpakilala ayon kay ...

I got Madison. I did name my youngest Lincoln. Open question on baby names. My baby is due in July. Last name begins with R. We are considering Franklin if it's a boy. Both of us are conservative. Should we pick a middle name that begins with D?

Char Char Binks, Esq. ayon kay ...

Char Char was the most popular name the year I was born.
