The article says the contest arises from the legend of wife-stealing in the 1800's Scandinavia.

Finland is not part of Scandinavia, and Finns (except for those descended from the Swedish colonial occupiers) are not Scandinavians, but Finnish-Ugrians.
I've always found that contest to be a charming display of matrimonial silliness, and a counter to the prevailing "marriage = hell" message.
I'm actually surprised this goes on without feminists protest. Also surprised that they still include "wife" in the title, even though it may offend those who choose non-traditional unions.
Not surprised that they had to open it up to unmarried couples, such as these folks. They probably needed to do so to get enough participants, which is kind of sad.
