Just got a quarter beef, Took the tongue, passed on the liver and heart. Liver is the only part of the cow I cant stomach. No idea why, Love the smell of fresh (Still warm from body heat)liver and onions, just cant force it down.
I like people from Wisconsin better than people from California.
I grew up in NJ and love pickled herring - which I associate with Jewish deli foods. Don't remember seeing herring rollups in Madison. What are they stuffed with? Are they really a Wisconsin thing?
In my experience, if you go to bars where they actually sell Brandy Old Fashioneds made with Ernest and Julio's finest, it doesn't come with a fruit salad.
another vote for pickled herring. I've never seen whatever that was. Frozen custard would've been a good substitute, or the aforementioned braunschweiger, which I'm pleased to see is getting rediscovered thanks to the proliferation of new meat shops.
I wonder by what metric those people are Californians? Also, what degree of Californian would we even really expect to matter? Like maybe if your parents were born in California and you've never traveled outside the state?
I'm not native, but I've lived here over 20 years, we had a place up north for 40, and I have never heard of a herring rollmop. I've never had or been offered cheddar beer soup. Can't remember seeing it on a menu. And while a old-fashioned made with brandy may have been invented here, it certainly isn't a common drink.
As mentioned, a fish fry would be very Wisconsin. Raw beef too. Curds yep. Raw beef
You guys realize that historically people only ate pickled herring because it could be preserved. No one ate it if they had a choice. Now you are talking about lutefisk! Pickled herring is good.

Rollmops, pickle wrapped in herring, are quite popular. So is herring in aspic. My MIL (Schwiegermutter)used to make a beet and herring salad at Christmas time...That was the stuff from which dreams were made.

I've eaten herring in many forms, both in Wisconsin and Norway. I have never seen a herring rollup.
I agree with Mike. Pickled herring, creamed herring, on crackers, thumbs up. But I've never even seen those rollup things.

Opps, I left out the 'in Germany' part. Rollmops are popular in Germany.
