Another close associate of [the banker Jeffrey] Epstein who is also accused in the lawsuit, Alan Dershowitz, told the Guardian that the woman’s accusations against himself were “totally false and made up”....
On Thursday he told the Guardian: “There is no more strenuous denial than the one I am giving. I never met her. I don’t know her. I have never had sex with an underage person.... This person has made this up out of cloth, maliciously and knowingly in order to extort money from Mr Epstein.”

"... has alleged in a US court document that she was repeatedly forced to have sexual relations with Prince Andrew...."

It's more interesting, ratingswise, if it lives on for a few weeks, so it will.
Women are tuned in.
Reversal of fortune?
Isn't the phrase "made up out of whole cloth"? Without the word "whole" in there, it seems kind of oddly stated.
There is no way that the security personel assigned to the prince allowed him to have sex with an underaged sex slave.
@Gahrie
Maybe he was being protected by the US Secret Service at the time.
It strongly reminds me of the scene from A Fish Called Wanda where "Archie" makes a refined legal admission that his previous statements (which were actually true) were slander. All while being hung upside down out a window by "Otto".
The trouble with young stuff. And the German Houses of Schleswig-Holstein and Saxe-Coberg going under an alias of Windsor are usually not inclined to follow quaint puritanical rules.
Maybe she was being protected by the US Secret Service at the time.

Just imagine fucking Alan Dershowitz.
The Dersh!
@EDH
How will I forget that picture?
You've ruined my day.
Epstein is certainly a scumbag. Prince Andrew is a moron for maintaining a friendship with him.
Don't know yet about Dershowitz. His threat to have the woman's lawyers disbarred is empty and over the top.
Dershowitz was friends with Epstein, so it's not like the woman's lawyers would know the allegation was baseless.
Perhaps Dershowitz protest too much.
"That trend should change. I am not going to be bullied back into silence."... the young woman is a progressive hero.
The story says the woman is represented by Paul Cassell, and Dershowitz is considering his options including pursuing disbarment of Cassell.
Is this THE Paul Cassell, law professor and former federal judge?
Mandy Rice-Davies could not be reached for comment.
Amanda Marcotte would consider me a 'rape apologist' if I doubted for a second the veracity of this story. And if the story were 'discredited,' then it would confirm my bias that 'no other rape stories can be true.'
Yesterday you blogged about a pitiful shut-in clinging to her TV and her Jimmyjane form 6.
Today, the underage sex-slave of a prince.
Its like reading Candide.
Apparently not the first time for this sleaze:
Wiki
In June 2008, after pleading to a single state charge of soliciting prostitution, Epstein began serving an 18-month sentence. He served 13 months in jail of his 18-month sentence as a convicted sex offender in the state of Florida for soliciting an underage girl for prostitution. He is a registered sex offender.[3][28]
Dershowitz was one in his team of lawyers.
"Perhaps Dershowitz protest too much." Is there a "too much" with this kind of accusation? Cosby's early denials were nonexistent to nonstrenuous, and that's been one of the reasons given in the oft-expressed media presumptions of guilt.
Oh wow. So apparently there's been ongoing litigation about unsealing the correspondence between Epstein's defense attorneys and prosecutors which led to a ridiculously lenient 18 month sentence at a country club minimum security facility. Epstein had been facing many more years for his crimes, and there were additional underage victims who were 12 or 13 at the time of the abuse. Epstein attempted to prevent the unsealing by arguing that the correspondence was somehow protected by attorney-client privilege.
Who is Prince Andrew? He must stay under the media paparazzi radar.
Believe and support, Alan.
"There is no way that the security personel assigned to the prince allowed him to have sex with an underaged sex slave."
Would they let him have sex with a 17-year-old prostitute?
"Underaged sex slave" is terminology that those who care about the sexual exploitation of young people use to help deal with what is a terrible problem, but an older way of looking at it is that a teenager has a pimp and they are both criminals.
"Dershowitz was one in his team of lawyers." Good. I like to see a lawyer who will walk the walk of the foundational rule of law principle that every defendant deserves legal representation. These lawyers are quite rare.
Would they let him have sex with a 17-year-old prostitute?
Depends. I could even see a scenario in which they hire one for him. But not in any type of situation in which the incident could later be used as blackmail.
This first appeared in Rolling Stone …. for what it's worth!
I believe it happens, but in this climate I find myself doubting the accusations.
Since the woman is "Jane Doe" in the court filings, how does Alan Dershowitz know "I never met her. I don't know her."
"I never met her."
Verifiable.
Gahrie, how trusting.
"I've never had sex with that woman."
The high and mighty have their own way of life. Security personnel are hired help, dumb and blind.
But it doesn't mean I believe the woman. She was underage, but she might not be a slave. Same thing happened to JFK's teen "girl friend". According to her, he told her to "suck up" his friends at the WH poolside.
Jackie, Jackie, Jackie!! See what you have done?
EDH wins the thread.
"Would they let him have sex with a 17-year-old prostitute?"
His security is employed by the royal family, so why not?
But I've always wondered if the Secret Service bought the President's weed, or if instead they allowed his dealer to visit the White House and drop off a bag once in awhile?
The obvious question is whether this alleged consideration may have been part of Alan Dershowitz's fee for legal services rendered to Jeffrey Epstein. If so, Dershowitz is the one who should be disbarred.
Actually, Cosby denied the allegations back in 2005 when he was sued and then he settled when his accuser found 13 other women with similar allegations of Cosby's drug then rape m.o.
Deshowitz threats to get the woman's lawyers disbarred is ridiculous. He admits to staying with Epstein in the Carribbean during one of the trips the woman said Dershowitz had sex with her.
He denies having sex with her, but her lawyers have the right to take her word over his in representing her and making the allegation.
Any complaint by Dershowitz to the bar would be frivolous.
If you've got to be a child sex slave, it's better to be one on a billionaire's private jet rather than in the back seat of a Rotherham cab. This woman, all by herself, will probably garner more publicity than the several thousand girls who were raped by Muslim cab drivers.........It's good to see that Ghislaine Maxwell, Princess Douchebag, is living up to the family tradition--a chippie off the old block.......,,I read the Mail. England does seem to produce more than its fair share of weird perverts. Perhaps it's the public (i.e. private) school system. A childhood spent taking cold baths, eating bad food, and being constantly buggered by the upperclassmen is bound to have deleterious effects on one's psychosexual development.
The high and mighty have their own way of life. Security personnel are hired help, dumb and blind.
Prince Andrew's security work for the Queen of England, not Andrew. I could actually see Phillip telling Andrew's detail to get him laid, or the detail looking the other way while Andrew arranged things...but there is no way that they would allow something like this.

It's an ongoing lawsuit. Even though the public filings do not name the woman, the litigants know who she is. Even if Dershowitz is not a named Defendant, they could tell him who is accusing him.
Dershowitz, huh. He has been active in a moderating capacity in both domestic and foreign affairs. Notably critical of the administration's selective policies and liberal actions. It was just a matter of time before his credibility would be challenged.
"There is no way that the security personel assigned to the prince allowed him to have sex with an underaged sex slave."
Maybe she has a fake sex slave ID.

Harvard Law capitulates. There is some solid click-bait! Maybe Althouse's resolution is not to be boring. It's not boring to me.
17 isn't underage in the UK. Also, it's The Guardian.
Considering how often these sensational stories turn out to be BS (Somaly Mam, Chong Kim, Stella Marr), I would take this with a large amount of salt.
Epstein did not commit those crimes he's accused of.

Security details will lose their job snitching. Their job is to see Andrew wasn't assassinated. They are Sergeant Schultz the rest of the time.
Btw, what could the Queen and his hubby do about it if they knew? Ground Andrew and let the world know?

I was wondering why we had to get all the way to the end of the thread for someone to point this out. This theory has as much credibility as anyone here pointing fingers at Dershowitz.
I Callahan:
Well, it may be a coincidence, or perhaps not. Too cynical? Without the benefit of foresight, what would you propose? Equal credibility or a third way?
"Their job is to see Andrew wasn't assassinated."
Beware the inside job...

After the Roman Polanski case, I didn't think this was a crime. Uh oh....
All of these allegations seem to have two constant themes; the complaints are filed in civil court years and sometimes decades after the fact against men who happen to be wealthy. I'd be more incline to believe these woman if they filed criminal complaints at the time of the alleged crime.
"I like to see a lawyer who will walk the walk of the foundational rule of law principle that every defendant deserves legal representation. These lawyers are quite rare."
A recent local election turned on this idea. In the race for attorney general of the state, one candidate blasted the other for defending an adult store in a civil lawsuit over an employee's non-compete agreement. I argued that that was not a good argument for an attorney general candidate because the attorney general should be wholly committed to the idea of equal protection under the law. Most people did not agree, and she won the election, though her opponent did fare better than most other Democratic candidates in the state.
She was an underage sex slave? This is the first I've heard that Prince Andrew is a Muslim, er, make that Asian.
When did he convert?

Then how far behind can the smearing of Prof Jonathan Turley be? Usually a reliably liberal voice, he has given congressional testimony that Obama is becoming what the authors of the constitution feared most, and lately has been saying that Obama's actions on amnesty are creating a constitutional crisis.
It appears the woman reached financial settlement with Epstein 5 years ago, but now wants more money.
