I happen to know the woman who designed that symbol for Prince. She worked for Paisley Park at a time when Prince was in trouble with the IRS.

I was at a Superbowl Party when Chicago played Indy and Prince did the halftime show. When the phallic shadow images came up on the screen, I pointed out to everyone exactly what Prince was doing. He started stroking the guitar during the Purple Rain solo. I said, "Look at this guy. He's masturbating in front of the whole world".
My friends thought I was the one that was nuts and reading to much in to it.
