"The core story of the book—which has the pilot wandering the desert for eight days with the Prince, basically hearing all about the ecosystem of his home asteroid and his love for a rose that grows there—is sent to her by an eccentric, lonely older neighbor. This new, modern spin emphasizes that these bits are magically realist—they are shot with what looks like computer-rendered Claymation—and develops a new emotional plot, which has a friendship unfolding between old man and young girl."
Hmmm.

The Prince and I? Isn't that this?
To President Taft!

Good. Society needs to encourage relationships between older men and younger women. It may help the women avoid getting in trouble with the law when they grow up, get jobs as teachers and school counselors, and are looking for safe relations.
Other than what Oso Negro said, I don't see the benefit of the change in approach.
I'm not familiar with The Little Prince.
Does it contain female characters of sufficient modern virtue that girls can relate to?
Because as we all know, girls won't relate to a story unless it contains a Mary Sue for them to latch on to.

Reminded me of "The Neverending Story"... a movie about reading a book where the story in the book is a large part of the movie. Also: "The Princess Bride."
I'm sure there are more examples.
You need a tag of " liberals are seriously nuts". Seriously.
"...develops a new emotional plot, which has a friendship unfolding between old man and young girl."
They go this far and yet the girl is not an All-American Cheerleader? Cowards.

When the musical artist Prince, who is indeed little, at least in relative physical stature, temporarily refused his name he was then referred to as 'The Artist Formerly Known as Prince'.
So.
"The Book Formerly Known as The Little Prince."
That was painfully awkward.
Maybe it wouldn't be so awkward if it had a better veneer of substance.
Again:
The musical artist Prince, who stands 5 feet, 2 inches tall, while the height for the average American male is approximately 5 feet, 10 inches. Despite this, Prince also changed his name for a period of time. From Wiki:
"1993 also marked the year in which Prince changed his stage name to the Love Symbol (see left), which was explained as a combination of the symbols for male (♂) and female (♀).[66] In order to use the symbol in print media, Warner Bros. had to organize a mass mailing of floppy disks with a custom font.[70] Because the symbol had no stated pronunciation, he was often referred to as "The Artist Formerly Known as Prince", TAFKAP, and "The Artist"."
So.
"The Book Formerly Known as The Little Prince."
Nope. Still awkward. More so, even. And now I feel the need to explain what a floppy disk is.

You usually have to pay extra for that.
Marilyn Monroe. Why anyone ever thought that vapid, flabby, lumpy and chubby woman was pretty or sexy is beyond me.
