Guy's a survivor. He's an interesting fellow.
I think it was an all girl backup band but one was hard to tell.
That man has talent and puts on an entertaining show. My problem is hearing the lyrics without a transcript. I bet they are interesting words.
Prince is on the right side on eye color implants (just use temporary dark glasses),and women's breasts (just use your real ones.)

Listened to a bit of the two albums. One seems more standard prince. And the other seems very experimental. Which is cool when an artist tried different sounds. Don't love eithe but I give him props for not making cookie cutter albums. And he probably brings it live.

Brubeck was okay, with the odd time signatures. At least something was happening.

When Althouse mentioned the albums a while back, I listened to them on Spotify. They were OK, but no Raspberry Beret or Little Red Corvette (I'm with Meade there.) But I figured that he could make them into a great live show, and that was certainly the case on that clip. Of course, that's where the money is now. They can steal your recorded songs, but they can't steal your live act.
And for the guitar gear-heads, that was some carpet of pedals!

Apparently, you didn't listen to it OR read the NYT piece, which said:
"The limitations of the “S.N.L.” time slot meant that Prince could go one of two ways, either stretching far out on a single song, or shuffling quickly from one to the next. He chose the second approach…."

What you mean is "misPrince", or maybe "misenPrince".
I'm not one. I liked "Kiss", and I watched that SNL video carefully to determine whether Prince is actually playing and singing. He does seem to be playing and singing live.
Anyway, the guy is working hard and trying new things, as noted above. Not my cup of tea, but he's obviously talented and doing everything possible to put on a show his audience can enjoy.
I listened to it.
No counterpoint, no melody, no development, no modulations, nothing to hear.

I don't know why such an androgenous little man has such sex appeal, especially now that he is older, but Prince has it.
Good stuff, but then Prince is always solid. His experimental nature is his most endearing quality, along with his solid musicianship.
Every time I see Prince I think about Kevin Smith's riff on his experience w/ him. This leads to thoughts about obtaining camels in Minnesota at 3 AM.
This leads to my fevered brain trying to make an analogy between Obama going to Tehran and Prince needing a camel at 3 AM. Those who try to explain to Obama why that won't work are like the Prince minions trying to explain why you can't just go out and get a camel in Minneapolis at 3 AM in January. Anyway, here's Kevin:

Prince uses a mind sex with a soft touch. Therefore, he needs females to accompany him to make his act seem complete.

My first impression, and that often evolves when comes to music, was the writing, especially the lyrics, seemed to me kind of slap-dash.
It reminded me of somebody with writers block and a deadline.

I have never seen Prince live. I consider it one of my greatest failures.

Frizzy hair, whispy 'stache, shades. Feelin' California.
He's not just a great musician, he's a total artist. He goes the extra mile. Note the lava lamps, his personal symbol on the mic stand, the third eye shades, even his use of eyeliner and false eyelashes. How many men can pull off that? Dylan wore eye makeup too, right? His music is not my fav but I admire him immensely.
Rolling Stones did a multi-song set on SNL when they released Some Girls, "Miss You" followed by "Shattered", if I remember correctly.
I liked Prince a lot when he was young and fresh, but after PURPLE RAIN he kept trying to make Elvis movies that more or less turned him into a clown, and his vanity got in the way of the music. Too bad.

Brubeck was amazing, particularly when he was fast.
Not a fan of Prince, but you know what's cool about him?
He uses his fame and his name to help other musicians.
