Your complaint is with the producers. I stopped watching at Weekend Update. Looks like another case of black people ordered to the back. Not by me. I'm just a person who clicked off when Weekend Update started with the cheap formulaic stuff.
I agree with you 100% about how the Whites sketch was the one to talk about, funny and on point and truly what the old SNL was .... But going on and on in repeated posts is acting like the deranged guy with a 'the end is near!' sign ranting to no one in general.

And Ta-Nehisi Coates' 16,000 word essay on reparations really got a measured response from whites, didn't it? I think, here, it went something like this - paraphrasing:

It's so encouraging I'm getting criticized for trying to meet them half-way,...

Non-Celiac Gluten Sensitivity May Not Exist ... Analyzing the data, Gibson found that each treatment diet, whether it included gluten or not, prompted subjects to report a worsening of gastrointestinal symptoms to similar degrees. ... Gluten wasn't the culprit; the cause was likely psychological. Participants expected the diets to make them sick, and so they did. The finding led Gibson to the opposite conclusion of his 2011 research:
“In contrast to our first study… we could find absolutely no specific response to gluten." ++
jr565 said... why does Crack keep hawking the Coates article?
It's worse than that.
Crack used to continually reference how many actual words Coates used in writing the article as if it was important to note how many words a black man had written. Like it was an accomplishment!
Talk about self-inflicted bigotry of low expectations!
LOL
And crack didn't even realize it until it was called out by a couple commenters. After that he stopped doing it.
There's a lot of talk about how SNL sucks and hasn't been good since [insert time when critic was in high school]. I'd maintain that SNL today is as good as it ever was.
That's because it never was all that funny. On Netflix you can see entire episodes from earlier decades, even the acclaimed mid-'70s episodes. What you'll notice when you watch those episodes is that there is a LOT of filler--a lot of sketches that just didn't land, or ran on too long. Held up against a typical episode of recent seasons, there's really no dropoff in quality.
The reasons everyone seems to think that it used to be so much better are twofold--
1) We see a lot of "best of" clips or YouTube links to the best of the skits from the old days, and it's easy to think that the old episodes had only the good stuff.
2) We remember enjoying the show that much more when we first discovered it as kids, because it meant getting to stay up late and watch "risque" adult humor broadcast live. Our nostalgia for that makes us think it was a much funnier show, and we forget the duds.
I like to cut SNL some slack, because of the constraints it has to work under--producing over an hour of content each week, keeping it topical (which it generally does--you can really pinpoint a given period in time by watching that week's SNL episode), working with a guest host who may or may not be terrible at live comedy, and doing it all live. All told, they do a pretty decent job of it, which you can tell by the fact that no other show was able to do the same and knock them off their perch for forty years.
Also, Crack misses the point of the White People sketch. It's not blacks who are going to supplant the whites--it's the hispanics. Which is also interesting--for all the drama about not enough black players on the show (at the time they had two cast members, now they have five) no one thought to add someone from the fastest growing ethnic group in the country.
Not that race should be the reason to add a cast member, but if you're going to live by that sword it seems odd to still have no hispanics on the cast.
Are you going to seriously try to posit that I'm the only Republican to read The Daily Kos? Hot Air, Breitbart, etc., don't do regular criticisms of their work? And if they do, how do they do so - without reading it?
I didn't even know Kos existed until the Right turned me onto it, so what the fuck are you talking about?
He can't. He is beyond it. Since you are famous he can't ignore you, as he generally does anyone who tries to speak to him decently...so you get that. I suppose he is not actually a sock puppet - and one whose material is worn thin as his heel - but he is making a caricature of himself. If you want his attention, attack.
All, Althouse will never pull The Crack Emcee's plug for at least 2 reasons:
1 She has no banhammer, this is blogspot. She can only delete as obsessively as he posts.
2 To go to war in such fashion against a black man, the only black poster on her blog AFAIK, is more than her creamy hippie chick center can handle. If she could offer her body as reparations instead...but no, probably not good enough for Crack-maybe if she had a granddaughter, but...
So he has the run of the place.
Crack, you used to be a valuable member of society. God bless you.

Who is in yellow? Freddy Mercury?
That was Joan spot on. SNL is getting creative again.
And both of those are more important than the bit they did on "Whites", right? Telling whites their time is almost up? Saying they're goofy, and can't focus on serious issues because they're too busy trying to spend other people's wealth before they lose power?
Of course - Silverman impersonating Joan Rivers - THAT's the big story white supremacy says ,whites should use to distract themselves with, in America.
White people, and how their racism plays out, are as predictable as the sun rising,...
White supremacy almost all over the web:
Feature every skit SNL did but the one critical of whites.
And still pretend like you're informing people of the important issues of the day.
Brain-dead,...
"We're whites - and we're on top for now."
I dare you to point out a more important line in that entire episode - including in the Joan Rivers sketch everyone (white) is talking about.
Nope - all whites want to talk about, collectively, is everything else.
But they're individuals, and racism - or "The Man" - doesn't exist to make them all work together to blot the skit out of our consciousness.
It just never happened.
Talk about the dead comic instead:
That was so important to our lives,...
"We've been on top,...for hundreds of years!"
Nobody needs to hear that,...
Wasn't funny. And I think I could have delivered the lines better than that. Cue cards must have been hard to read.
This is how whites fight racism, right, Ann?
By ignoring the attempts to address it?
Joan Rivers is the big story.
Incredible,...
We've been on top for thousands of years. Greek people count too when we compare the accomplishments of the various races! They also had slaves, but they were white.
Oh, I get it:
Skits about white's racism are NOT funny!
To one group in America, that is,...
Let's hear it for white's fetish for hiking and camping while the other Americans white's oppress die in the streets.
Whites!
Spiros Pappas,
"We've been on top for thousands of years. Greek people count too when we compare the accomplishments of the various races! They also had slaves, but they were white."
Fool, whites were living in caves when blacks had already invented civilazation.
Sit down, shut up.
We're done with you,...

Attempting to prop up white's image after 400 years of their barbarity:
It's the American Dream come true!
Dude.
I agree with you 100% about how the Whites sketch was the one to talk about, funny and on point and truly what the old SNL was .... But going on and on in repeated posts is acting like the deranged guy with a 'the end is near!' sign ranting to no one in general.

Good luck, I have a good book I am halfway through and is more fulfilling than anything I have found here.
Ann,
Funny, but the places that REALLY fight white racism - like Gawker - have it. What was their problem?
Wrong audience, probably.
Not many white racists are allowed to hang out there,...
And Ann - the scene Crack talks about was immediately after the Joan Rivers, well before the weekend update.
Support Scott Walker!
That's how you fight white racism,...
Who is in yellow? Freddy Mercury?
yes
Poor Scott Walker:
Blacks are being so UNFAIR - TO HIM!
Our hearts are breaking over it.
Have been ever since we met his staff and friends,...
Blacks, of course, have ALWAYS BEEN TREATED FAIRLY.
So much so, just to balance the scales after 400 years, Ann can let it go to support Scott - he's our friend who needs her help.
Really,...
His smile covers for the racism, and his stance on sex-sex marriage - you name it!
Scott Walker's our hero!
Because he m,akes whites feel are warm and fuzzy about America.
A place that's been good to everyone,...
"And Ann - the scene Crack talks about was immediately after the Joan Rivers, well before the weekend update."
Whoa! I guess I got the bowdlerized Midwest edition. The next skit for me was about soap operas with women supporting women, then some white boys in a band misnamed after a dark color, then Weekend Update.
You need a Freddy Mercury tag
Mark,

"Hey, you Jews, calm down - it's just the gas chamber..
You don't want to look nuts, do you?
Whites will losde faith in your arguement.
Because that's what white "friends" do when YOUR life is in danger.
Such a help they are,...

It's so encouraging I'm getting criticized for trying to meet them half-way,...
"This content is not available in your location."
But I'm supposed to get upset about piracy.
What a cunt.
Crack, not Sarah. Not that she's any prize.
donald,
"What a cunt.
Crack, not Sarah. Not that she's any prize."
There you go, Mark:
My "fellow countrymen".
And then they wonder why some blacks root for the terrorists,...
"I'm stepping over black dead bodies every day."
Every day.
TN Coates' argument for reparations can just as easily be applied to just about anyone. We all have ancestors who have survived holocausts and economic exploitation and whatever. The Black American experience isn't unique or more compelling then, say, the devastation of Armenia or Tibet. Black and White Americans should take a look around the world and stop being such myopic and narrow-minded losers. Spiros Pappas,
"The Black American experience isn't unique or more compelling then, say, the devastation of Armenia or Tibet."
Because they wrote "All Men Are Created Equal" too?
Then stop bending our ear about American exceptualism.
White Americans are as scumbaggy as everyone else,...
CWJ,
"I'm stepping over black dead bodies every day."
Every day."
I saw three yesterday.
You really have NO IDEA what's going on out here, do you?

Thanks for the glib response.
I know: go fuck a turtle, you've already told me.
Quixote.
It's breast awareness month again, if I read the signs at Kroger correctly.
I'd stick to rape jokes, if I were Silverman.
Can you imagine what it must be like to be Sarah Silverman, to get roped into doing a sketch that blows chunks?
She must have been seeing her life pass before her eyes...
I'm telling you, Crack, the Canadian atrocity museum is where your audience would be.
It's hard to find people who care these days, but they all care over there.
Mostly to get their group on top, but you have to take any interest you can get. They'll watch you closely.
I tried Blazing Saddles the other day, in my Mel Brooks on sale collection, and couldn't get very far. It was too stupid.
High Anxiety was the only good one.
Don't worry Crack, when the Chinese & Indians are on top, they'll be sooo much more multi-culturally sensitive.
Sarah Silverman, man she is not at impressions, at all. She has a limited comic talent and needs to stick to her own material.
That was painful. Was she trying to do Rodney Dangerfield or Joan?
As for Ava, why the shots are her? I always love her comment on Sinatra and Mia Farrow - "I always knew Frank would end up in bed with a boy"
I stopped watching SNL years ago. But even when it was good the rule was:
Stop watching after Weekend update. That's when they show the really bad skits.

I lasted for 3 minutes before clicking to the ebola skit. That one reminded me of the "Everybody has AIDS" skit in "Team America."
Those skits were almost as hysterical as Crack.
"I tried Blazing Saddles the other day, in my Mel Brooks on sale collection, and couldn't get very far. It was too stupid."
Its very uneven. You have to skip around to the funny bits. Assuming you know where they are.
I liked "Young Frankenstein" and "History of the world" better.
Minority opinion.

“In contrast to our first study… we could find absolutely no specific response to gluten."

why does Crack keep hawking the Coates article?
It's worse than that.
Crack used to continually reference how many actual words Coates used in writing the article as if it was important to note how many words a black man had written. Like it was an accomplishment!
Talk about self-inflicted bigotry of low expectations!
LOL
And crack didn't even realize it until it was called out by a couple commenters. After that he stopped doing it.
Pathetic.
Wow. That Rivers sketch was awfullllllllllll.
Yeah the Rivers sketch was weak. Imagine what Joan Rivers would have been able to do with that material!
Just get a "sassy black girlfriend" actress for the "dialog" and a laugh track.
Talk to the hand.
chickelit,
"Crack reads DailyKos? Quell the surprise."
Any excuse to attack a black, right, chick?
But you're not racist,...
BM3k,
God, that was wretched! No wonder I don't watch SNL any more.
